Jens used to publish prices but because he sells so many instruments outside of € Zone it got really complicated dealing with overseas enquiries and fluctuating exchange rates. If you request a price on anything through his site you'll get a response inside 48 hours (usually faster).
That's understandable on the pages for the individual instruments (like he used to have if you went to the page for info about the Roya or any other model), though it would be nice if he still had the price of a finished instrument on the "Available Instruments" page (but I suppose if you can afford a Ritter, then that wouldn't matter).
You've really got to be going some to hit £10K on a Ritter. Our friendly UK dealer has a cracking brand new Cora in the, to my eyes, beautiful high gloss white finish with gold hardware (including the frets!) for under £4K Still big money but it is a thing of simple beauty . . .
I couldn't agree more. The first Cora was an all white job that looked stunning. Even my wife loved it & she has no interest in basses! I didn't word that sentence too ll. It was just the 3rd bass (Royal) that was advertised at £9.5k. There used to be prices on the Ritter site up until @ a year ago. If I had £4-5k to spend on a bass, Jens would be my first port of call. I know the majority of Jens' basses are in that bracket. IIRC, the Raptor starts from @ £7-8k. That would be an interesting bass to play down your local.
Probably quite good for bluegrass. But I think leather gloves will be best for metal.
& wooly mittens for that Ashdown sound?

I've been trying to stay out of this thread for ages as I have BAD GAS for a Ritter. Just looking at them makes me go The first one that did it to me was this one... I just love the wood & silver leaf. It feels at home with me visually (if you know what I mean). Then I saw this, which just screams Visually, I love everything about this bass. The wood of the body, the manky looking fretboard, the bridge. It just does it for me. Then there's the Royals. This makes me go Oooohhhh But at @ £10k, I don't ever forseeing me owning one of those. So I'll be sticking with my manky old ibby!

The + side of a multi unit is that if you're not sure which effects you want yet, then you have a good selection to choose from in the one box. Also they can be considerably cheaper than a pedal board with a few pedals, cables & PSU. The + side of pedals is that you can choose which effects you want, get effects that you can't get in a multi & put them in whichever order you like. Multi fx are usually not so great at dirt. Single pedals are usually a good bit more expensive for a decent selection & they can be noisier if you don't have good cables, routing & power.
You could try. Probably worth wearing the knee pads and wellies too, just in case ;-)
I might give that a go. Should I also wear bib & brace dungerees?
To be fair though, it is actually the gloves giving him that buttery tone...
I'm gonna have to try my gloves out after listening to that. Think I'll get a similar sound with gardener's gloves?

An Ibanez Soundgear might be worth checking out. Slim necks, well balanced, light weight, slim contoured bodies, & you can get a pretty low action on them. & the cherry... They sound awesome.
My word that is sickenly pornographic
It's not black anymore. It looks like this.... Though I've since changed the knobs for cream with a black marker & replaced the toggle with a moog style knob (that controls one of my moog pedals).
xgsjx Yesterday, 02:40 PM Black basses are cool. What's even cooler is stripping the black bass to show some nice wood. I'm possibly going to spray my project bass (P body, MM bridge pup, J nexk pup and jazz neck) black. It'll have a new B/W/B plate fom the Bass Doc and a maple neck and fingerboard. Black and maple? I should say so!
If your project is just wood, have you considered giving it a black stain or even a black ceruse finish (if you have the patience)?

You should put this in the Off Topic section. There's a couple of folk who'd love to see this.

How do different woods contribute to 'tone' in electric instruments?

Not at all. It's good to get a fresh debate on an older topic. This way we see if there is any shift & ge another chat about bass. -

xgsjx replied to ingmar808's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure I'm gonna hear the difference on my ipad. My appreciation of loud things as a kid means everything I hear has the top rolled off. A better test would be to use identical components to what the fender has, but attached to a completely different material, such as a frying pan or a lump of polystyrene. -
Good God, they're not cheap are they..?
Considering that rounds was costing me @ £50 a year, I've saved a small fortune (I bought them in January 2010 & never replaced them, not even the G).
Nah, I'm just stoned.
Phew. For a moment I was bricking it! -
I'm using Lakland Joe Osborn Signature Flats - they are made by GHS. Apparently these are similar, and not that expensive: http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1438.l2649
Bargain! Ok, Black & rosewood with no pickguard & blue strings... Or with silver strings & pussy magnet...
+1 Plus they sound lush, they don't rip your fingers to shreds and they don't wear your frets as quickly. What's not to like?
The only thing I could think of was "the price". But considering I went through 2-3 packs of rounds a year at £15-20 a set, they're a bargain!
-
Same here. Bought a set of TI flats for my ibby a few years ago & wouldn't change back to rounds. I love how long they last for too!

In most instances, what sounds good as a solo setup sounds crap in a mix. Get a good sound from your rig at home when playing along to some music. Stop the music & play your bass & you'll hear a huge difference.

xgsjx replied to ingmar808's topic in General Discussion
I dare say some woods are chosen on their weight, some on their looks & some on their cost. -
OC-3 tracks a little better than the OC-2 & has a good poly mode. I usually use mine in mono mode, so might replace it with an OC-2 sometime, but I'm happy with it. Sounds good going through some Moog filters.
Probably a wise decision, on aggregate.
Is that you paving the way for a new genre? -

I've heard folk say they can hear the quality of the wood. So on that, do plexiglass basses sound plasticy & aluminium basses sound tinny? -
