2.
What about just, i-ther?
That's the Apple version?
3. I think you should change what is single choice & what is multiple choice on your poll. Like what others have said, sometimes I come up with a bassline straight away, sometimes it can take a while & sometimes it'll start off as onething but get rewritten at a later date as I spend more time with the song. Some basslines are simple, some are complex, it depends what the song needs. Some simple basslines can be a challenge as it could be a simple 3 note sequence, but the stamina to keep it going can be pushed. Some of my complex basslines that I thought would be hard turn out to be easy to play once I get a technique going. I've always written my own lines, but sometimes another member has said "I've got an idea for a bassline" & I'm happy to play it. When it works, it's nice to see the smile on their face. The main things that are important to me are "I enjoyed playing that" & "does it fit the song".
4. I too thought I might have found an improv/swing band to join!
5. I did it on the poly finish on my Ibby. Blowtorch & scraper. Heat the paint until it just starts to shift with the scraper (it may bubble a little). Once the poly is off, there will probably be a layer of shellac which can actually be peeled off by sanding it. Don't worry about light scorchmarks, they can be sanded out. It went from black to natural, oiled & waxed. I've posted links to my refinish a few times. If you want me to pop a link, let me know. It's time consuming to do a good refinish, but worth it & you get a "look what I did" feeling.
6. Would you need to get a pole dancer if you're planning on entertaining the audience?
7.
This thread's worried me. silddx appears to have changed his username to xilddx. Spooky or what?
I noticed that. Maybe it's his doppleganger?
8.

Stop that!
9. I don't play DB (unfortunately), but I've had a few folk out their DB through my MarkBass combo & it sounded sweet.
10.
What you say sounds pretty fair except for the simple fact that the meaning of words is not subjective. "Entertainment is something that holds the attention and interest of an audience, or gives pleasure and delight. It can be an idea or a task, but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of keeping an audience's attention." -Wiki So you should ask yourself: How pure is something that's made with the sole purpose of satisfying an audience? Don't play the arrogance card on me, it's getting pretty old and tired by now.
I can get where you're coming from, but look at the word "entertain". In part, it means "to provide someone with enjoyment". That someone could be you, me or the dog, it makes no odds. If art isn't made for someone to enjoy, then what is it's purpose? The opposite of entertain is "to bore" or "reject". If art isn't there to entertain, is it there to bore?
11.
Here's mine so far, I'm going to upload as I go to keep motivated https://soundcloud.c...northern-lights
I like that. will be good to hear how it progresses.
12. I don't see why it couldn't be used for bass then (as you note, it has a "Bass" setting), but I'd give it a try first against some other small combos in that price range. I'm taking it you do mean the bigger of the 2 combos? Oddly, in your avatar your mando looks like a Tbird & you look like a furry rat.
13. Are you planning on using it for guitar as well (AKA do you play the twangy things)? If it's just for your bass, get a small bass combo. There's plenty for the same money as these are (unless you're getting it free).
14. Regardless of paint, I'd imagine it would soon wear off. Get clear Perspex & paint the back of it. You can then put something over the painted surface so it's not directly against your bass.
15. I'm liking this month's pic & have started something already. Might try & lay a bassline down one day this week (but more likely to be the following). Just had a look at Logic 9 & it's massively cheaper than the last time I looked! Does it still come with the VSTis?
16. Learn the basic 12 bar blues progressions. I started learning them in F when I first took up bass (chord sequence is F/////// Bb/// F/// C/ Bb/ F//C (I've 1/2d things to save typing)). & remember, the secret to a good blues bass line it to play like someone nicked your Schecter bass & left you with a Fender!
17. Brightonion & [sfx] both make things like this. I made my own 2 channel mixer. I split my signal with a Bass Murf, send the 110hz & lower clean to one channel & the other goes through the fx.
18. I mainly write instrumentals as I'm not much of a singer, though I will write melodies for lyrics to be put to. I'll write the occasional set of lyrics & prefer playing my own compositions to playing a cover.
19. First Q, what's your budget? You'll get an amp at any budget that'll do what you're looking for just now, including small gigs. The "For Sale" section on here is a good place to buy. Get to a shop that has a good selection & try some out to see what you like the sound of.
20. The nearest I can think of is these two... Led Zeppelin - II Miloopa - Unicode But it's not entirely accurate as I could just as easily say LTJ Bukem - Journey Inwards & Kurt Elling - Man In The Air.
21. That sounds quality, makes me want to get a delay! Now a filter in there would do the job nicely.
22.
Which is why I never ever play sitting down. My biggest bugbear about this is rock guitarists who sit down to record their parts in the studio. You don't sit down on stage, so why when you are recording? It saps all the energy out of the performance. If you can't play the part standing up well enough to pass studio scrutiny then IMO you need to practice more.
I prefer standing, but quite often in the house I just grab my bass & sit down just to practice building speed & stamina. I'd like to agree with the standing theory, but it does depend on the music. This for example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3hBYTkI-sE
23. I have mine dropped slightly lower than what it would be when I'm sitting. I've tried loads of positions & tried to have it the same as when sitting, but it's more comfortable to play for me if it drops @ 2" when I'm standing.
24. I have one chap to try out. If this doesn't work out, then I'll make sure the ad is more specific & will also be trying out open mic nights.
