  1. Gramma pads do have an affect on wooden stages, but if you're getting boom on a solid floor, then it ain't gonna help. How about a portable workbench? Something like this... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-Series-09788-Fold-Down-Workbench/dp/B003D0K50Y
  2. The worst thing I've ever "tried" to play through was a Trucker Bass combo. Sounded like a cheap recording of a skeleton having a chug in a biscuit tin & played back through a piezo that's come out the inside of an 80s handheld video game. Made my Carlsberg Cobra 90 sound like a rig of doom! (& you guys already know how good they are). Needless to say, about 30 seconds after plugging into it, it got given to the guitarist to use (stopped him getting into the bass frequencies).
  3. I chose singer because I really can't sing. I can hit notes, but my voice just sounds rubbish! Unlike any other instrument which can be changed for a better sounding one, my voice is there to stay. It sounds good in my head, but when I sing to anyone or hear myself recorded, it's bad. Only time it's sounded okish was when I had the cold in December. I do to an extent, envy classically trained pianists & have always wanted to take up saxophone, but as I already play keys, guitar, drums, know my way confidently around synthesis & to a degree know how to play trumpet, tenor horn, violin, banjo & some percussion instruments too, I'll be contented there. I chose "no" to being happy just playing bass as I think the key to being a good musician is to know how each instrument plays & the best way to do that is to learn them. I'd happily give up all but 1 instrument just to be able to sing though. Maybe I should learn to play the bass sometime?
  4. It can also affect any effects to respond differently that you have after it, good or bad, it's upto you.
  5. I've been looking too. Had one drummer who turned up stoned, couldn't play over 120BPM, couldn't finish a song & went out twice during the 2 hour session for a joint whilst the rest of us waited until he came back to get started again. I don't mind if he likes to have a toke in his own time, but at the 1st band meet up? He might as well have turned up drunk. As for other musicians, do they actually exist outside any major cities? Glasgow & Edinburgh seem to have a decent amount of musicians, but Edinburgh is @ 1 hour's drive & Glasgow is @ 1 1/2 hours & that's to the near side of them. Here in Perth we have lead guitarists, rhythm guitarists, acoustic guitarists & air guitarists. Oh & we have singers who haven't sung outside their bedroom!
  6. I've never had any trouble with pics & there's proof in the photography threads. But I think I know what it might be... Did you put the Flickr URL in the picture link (by clicking on the wee box & then pasting the code in)? If so, that might be the problem. If you take the BBCode from "share" (on your Flickr page image) & then just paste it straight into this comment box, it should show ok.
  7. [quote name='tonyquipment' timestamp='1359531873' post='1956096'] Tuner, overdrive, octave, maybe noise gate(if playing loud, it squeals like pig lol) That's what I would suggest for now.. Dunno about chorus...anyone? [/quote] It depends on what sort of music you play & sound you want. I have chorus & use it quite a lot, but if there's another instrument using chorus, things can sound messy.
  8. For home practice only, yes. But I doubt that'll go as cheap as you think it might (though I could be wrong). They're just over £400 new. What's your budget? Meant to ask, is the bass still blue?
  9. Other than the Kickback combos, I've never tried a Hartke rig. But going on the customer service on here, I wouldn't hesitate in trying them out if I ever change rigs.
  10. I've got a box set DVD that I started watching & never got back to it! I might dig it out mutheruckers!
  11. If you're having no noise issues & all sounds good to you, then keep what you have. Shep's blog probably explains things really well... http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/blog/signal-chain-bassics-part-i-where-to-start.html
  12. If you have quite a few effects, good quality cables & plugs can greatly reduce (or even get rid of) ground noise.
  13. Voted. Sorry I didn't get an entry in. I did get a start on one, but couldn't get back to it. [spoiler]Don't look at me [spoiler] I'm very shy [/spoiler][/spoiler]
  14. I've got a decent Electro Acoustic guitar & I played it quite a bit for the 1st year, it hardly gets played nowadays though. Whilst I'm a fairly competent guitar player (been playing for about 28 or so years), I don't rate it in the same league as being a bassist unless you can sing. Then it's a good backing instrument. Wait a min, so is bass! I've been seriously contemplating selling all but my Ibby & going back to keys. Been trying to put a band together (or join one), but it's proving to be a lot harder than any of the previous efforts just to find a decent couple of musicians. So if it doesn't happen before Easter, I'm joining you.
  15. Albums on Flickr are called "Sets". click on a pic so it's the only one you can see & then at the top of the pic, click "Actions" & a dropdown will appear. 5th thing down say's "Add to set", click this & name your set. You can then add photos to the set. Hope that helps. I'd get rid of one of your EQs & add an octaver & a filter. But you're right to play about with what you have just now.
  16. Markbass 2x10 for me. Might add a 2nd 2x10 at a later date if I need it. Other thought is adding a sub.
  17. OC 3 would suit as it has a direct out for the clean tone (which you woudl take to your synth) and an effect out (which you would sum back to the signal). There's other octavers that have the same. I tried it, but prefer having just a -1 octave then into a Bass Murf then dirt then filter & finally chorus (although the wiring is a little more complex).
  18. It depends on the octaver. If you get a Boss OC2, it's monophonic & if you're just using it -1oct with no clean, then you want the synth after it as the -1 oct is a tone generator (it doesn't make the same sound 1 octave down, but tracks the envelope of the sound & generates a tone an octave lower).
  19. [quote name='Dave Vader' timestamp='1359367387' post='1953485'] Slight hijack, I'm thinking of getting an octaver to go after my bass synth pedal (which does the wobbly LFO thing, so I want the octave after) will this work? Or will it sound shocking? [/quote] Personally, I'd put the octaver first & then the synth after to affect the octaved sound. But try it both ways & see what you like.
  20. I can't see the picture either, but it is there... in braille.
  21. Lozz gives very good advice there. I tried countless rigs (both in amp/cab and combo formats) & finally settled on a Markbass 2x10 combo. Probably the loudest [s]2x10[/s] Combo I've ever used & has the sound that I want.
  22. From the sound of what you say, I think you're misinterpreting what Bi-amping is. Bi amping is using one amp to run low frequencies & one amp to run higher frequencies. Simplest method is to get a small guitar combo & put it on top of your rig. What are you looking to achieve? We (the BC community) can work on options from there.
  23. [quote name='TRBboy' timestamp='1359321755' post='1953135'] Interesting..... what would cause the limiter to make that noise? [/quote] I tried the boss LMB3 & if the "Enhance" was too high, it raised the noise floor. In my instance there was a feint buzz in bypass & a shed full of wasps doing backing vocals when it was engaged. Just a suggestion to help narrow things down.
  24. Usually there's a plastic screw-in fuse holder on the back of most amps.
  25. It depends on what you're going to use an octaver for. I've only used an OC2 once & thought it was a great pedal. I bought an OC3 & also think it's a great pedal. The tracking is better than the OC2, but it's not quite as warm sounding. Not an issue for me as I put it through a couple of other pedals that soon completely change the sound to how I want it to. If you get an octaver, I'd have a shoogle around with your pedals & see what order is gonna give you the best use. I like the OC at the start so I can affect the sound that it makes. If it was at the end & used on -1 oct only, then I think there's little point having the other effects on at the same time. But play about, getting your layout is 1/2 the fun of having a board.
