1. Time for a wee update... It can be a slow process starting a new band, but I'm slowly getting there. So far I've managed to get a drummer (who's only 18, but if he's good, who cares), a guitarist (or 3) and a singer. We're all keen on Acid Jazz, Breakbeat, Soul, Funk & Drum n Bass. So far it's only been email communication, but hoping to get a meet up with everyone soon & I've popped a couple of ads for keys & other musicians. So here's hoping. I'll update when we get together & have our first jam.
2. Glad someone's popped it on tinterweb. I've only got Apple TV so I can watch this on Vimeo later!
3. Just buy the iPad & be done with it. You can get some awesome music software for it too & Animoog & all the Korg software are 1/2 price until the New Year!
4. I think the quality of the tunes here are geting better every month. I thought I had a good contender until I listened to all the others & I'm well impressed by you guys! Gonna be a tough decision this month.
5. I agree with the above few posts. Sell it & get something lighter. Have a look at the Ibanez Promethian (or the Harley Benton version) if you have a limited budget. Or you could look in the 2nd hand section on here. There was a MarkBass LM2 for @ £275 & build your own cab (maybe a BFM).

Zoom 708ii

I'm not totally sure what you're talking about, but I used to have a Zoom 708ll & whilst it's a good pedal to introduce you to effects, there's newer & better out there. If you're looking to stay with multi effects, then Zoom & Line6 both have a good selection of units, as do a few others.
7. It puts a whole new slant on the phrase "playing with one's twanger"!
8. I had a Trace Elliott 4x10 combo. Big heavy overrated underpowered thing. Got a Markbass 2x10 combo & it's about 10 times louder, sounds 100 times better & is 1000 times lighter (44kg)! But then, like JTUK says... Do you like the TE sound that you have? I'd go shopping & try some stuff out first.
9. That looks like a sad thing to do. Maybe he should try an Ampeg plexi bass?

Passive basses

A few Ibanez basses have active/passive switching. Mine did until I decided to rip the pre out of it (I broke it) & now it's just passive. Still sounds great & the signal is the same level as it was when in active mode.
... what kind of passive bass, and what would it do that a fender can't?
That's easy! Look good.
11. I'm another Flat convert. Don't know why I didn't try them yonks ago! I went for Tomastic Infeld Jazz strings.
12. Riders on the storm by The Doors used to be a regular when I first took up bass & it's still good fun. Never realised it was the same age as me!
13.
I know I can link my bass up to the PC through my pedal, I'm sure we have a microphone of some description here. My issue is other instruments (drums, keys etc).
Download Reaper. You get an unrestricted free trial of it & you can download plenty of free VST instruments in the sticky at the top of this forum section (here). Once you get your head around using a DAW, things are easy.
14.
Mate I honestly cannot wait till i have my music room up & running ! so I can record the Upright bass through the Big muff/Synth & expression pedal set up I have. I swear mate, it shows up on the richter scale !!!! Doooom!!!!
Now that I am looking forward to hearing!
15.
THis is something I'm experimenting with but with the upright......I jumped out of my skin when I put the EUB through the synth & expression pedal. The Ibanez does do the job extremely well. as a matter of fact I can sometimes sit arsing around with effects & differant settings just on the bass alone when i'm supposed to be practicing lol
Fire up a breakbeat drum pattern (Either in a DAW, from a drum machine or something from Wikiloops) & have fun playing with your fx.
16.
but then thats not just the FOH sound guy/girl .... 9/10 its as much to do with the pesky guitarers who wont turn down and deafen the rest of the band let alone the audience
That's a problem I've come up against in just about every guitar based band I've been in. Their excuse is usually "I need it at 11 to get My sound", even though their "sound" is normally guff at that volume.
17. & here's one with me on bass (& 8 others!)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTmAnGzNQxE
18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG940DEAazQ That's Pantherairsoft's band.
19.
Sorry for being a twat but what is DnB/dubstep music - can't say i've heard of that before. Dave
Stuff like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tRX5eL5wcE This... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWRU3Sxt9tY & even BCs very own...
20.
Well, I thought I would put together my ideas and lay down some groove tonight. It is really rubbish Back to the drawing board lol I didn't even get to laying down any drums! It's on Soundcloud but it's not my entry
I'm sure with a few tweaks you could make it sound great. Mine started off with some drums & a VST bass & chord seqquence that I ended up hating, so plugged in the bass & started jamming to just the drums & found something I liked fairly quickly. So I'm sure you can do better.

dca and vcas

What, like a dance group? I'm not sure if you're referring to the same thing, but the only way I know of DCAs & VCAs is through synth architecture. Is it to this you're referring?
22. I ordered some cables from Thomann & DV247. Thomann took 3 days & DV 4 days.
23. Cheers Skol. Next month I'll try some vocals to show how bad my singing actually is.
24.
Hell yes you are:singing, nice one I do fear for all the girls and boys if your the santaclaus! This is scary, a generation of bass players doing the vocals whatever next!
He he. I took advantage of the fact that I have a cold with a really bad cough & sore throat. I'm not gonna make a habit of it.
25. Believe it or not, I actually got mine finished! It's even got me [s]singing[/s] talking on it. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/the-santa-job
