Very true - the best song I ever wrote was called "The Keyboard Player is a f***ing ****".
Result! Right Paul, next sesh & you wanna ram the head of your bass into the side of the blokes ribcage during a solo. Not hard enough to damage your bass, just enough to bruise some ribs. Unless it's the drummer, then you're better off bumping the crash or ride cymbal towards his neck.
Yes, but "lots of great bands" carry on doing what they're doing with people they detest purely because they are making lots of money
True that, but they didn't start off making lots of money & at the beginning was in it for the love of the music (as some of them still are). Sometimes band tension can result in great songs coming from it.

Tricky one. I'd be inclined to say "Jack it in", but then a lot of great bands don't get on. Massive Attack being a prime example. I'd maybe let him know about your issues & that you don't agree with him on a lot of things, but musically as a team, do a brilliant job.

Can the X Factor judges hear what we hear on the TV?
xgsjx replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
I could be wrong, but the way I see it is that they choose the couple of people who are either really good singers or have a visual charm that will sell with a passable voice (the main sellable product), and the rest of the contestants are for entertainment value only (like Chico or those 2 kids with the silly hair). They know that the main products are the ones in the final & they need the others to provide entertainment & play with the punter's emotions. Like Monty Python says, "And now for our talent spotting contest, and let's see if you can spot any talent amongst this lot!". -
Well done Skol. And everyone else who entered. I never got a chance to listen to any more of the entries & place a vote, just been mega busy. Hopefully December will be a different month & I'll get an entry.

Depending on your budget, I'd look at buying a smallish combo for home & playing about. Most 1x10 or 1x12 are not too big & good for getting started out on.

Dilemma (4x8 Ashdown Mini, Genz Benz 2x10, Other?)
xgsjx replied to Ultima2876's topic in Amps and Cabs
I ordered one of the GB 2x10 cabs after reading the referenced thread. I've hidden it away until Christmas, but its a decent size, not too heavey, and the corner handles are awesome! I have a 2ohm head, so I'll be running it with another 1x15 for bigger gigs, or just on its on for small gigs. Really looking forward to hearing it Christmas morning! They really seem to be excellent value for the money!
It would make more sense to add another 2x10. When one of you guys get the cab, you should pop a review in the "review" section. -
ditched my effects and got my dream sound
Must keep an eye out for that RHCP double vinyl album. One of my favourite bands. Flea is the man really
Now there's a man who knows how to use effects to good effect. -
It's the same up this way. If I was a teenage metaller then I'd be fine. Serious shortage of musicians.

Another great album that has a crap bass mix is The Real Thing by FNM. Brilliant basslines that sound like they've been played by a skeleton in a biscuit tin. Always needs a bit of EQ to sound 1/2 decent, but I agree that nothing I do can make it sound good. They should get a decent producer to remaster it. -
I would certainly consider a multi-fx during this period of 'not knowing what you want/need'. There are some great pedals to be had second hand for only a little more than your budget. Boss ME-50B's often sell for around £80-90, and that's more than 20 different, good quality, effects easily. The Line6 M5 gets awesome reviews, Zoom stuff is coming back up. Good luck Si
I went to see a David Phelps gig a couple of years ago & the bassist was using a Sadowsky into a ME50B to a SWR Super Redhead. Had a great sound.

I started off a keys player, then harmonica, tenor horn, trumpet, guitar, bass, violin, drums, banjo & most recently tin whistle. My fave instrument to play in a band setting is bass. On my own it's probably keys & programming.
If you switch to Talkbass, the Baer 112 cabs are getting stellar reviews all the time. Apparently the treble in 'just right', and the mids are stunning.
But what about the bass??? That's the bit that bassists really need.
-
Sorry, I've no suggestions for a builder. If it was I, I'd build it myself. I've been considering building a BFM Titan just for the lows.
Well, the Promethean and I have gone through my CD selection and we've decided on Joss Stone's latest CD. We're going to play that this afternoon through the CD player on the TV and then I'll use the combo for the first time. Is that what you meant?!
I would have chosen more than 1 CD for several hour's listening myself. Though with my Markbass combo, it was just several hours of me playing my bass at home & then off to rehearsal a few nights later.
-
IIRC, Ampeg suggest playing pre recorded music (such as a CD) at a reasonable volume for several hours before first use.
