Cheers for the uploading advice. I normally just export as mp3 & upload to soundcloud. I've abandoned what I was trying to do & gonna start afresh. It was going to incorporate both pics, but some things just aren't working. I can't sing a jot, so expect an instrumental again.

Now I've got that wonderful "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" in my ears. Hearing aids a good for reducing it.

You might also want to add a downslope filter. Most filters only offer an upslope on the envelope, but a couple have an up/down switch (EHX QTron, EBS Bassiq, Soundblox BEF, MuTron, etc). The Moog MF-101 doesn't have an up switch, but I get round this by taking a TRS lead from the Envelope out to the Cutoff in & get good results for 80's & 90's synth sounds & even a convincing upright bass sound (when used on it's own).

Only thing that I can see missing is from the global view (Basschat.co.uk) you can't see what the last post was without going into the section. Edit to correct.

If it were I, I would get a Markbass combo (that's what I did). I would however, go & try one before you do (same goes for any gear).

If you like the Ashdown, go for the Ashdown. If you get to a volume that sounds bad, back off on the low end or get a 2nd cab (unless you go for a 4 ohm cab, then you're stuck).

Could you do it in Braille for us deaf metallers?

As long as you submit your remix before the closing date, I don't see there being any probs. Last month I entered & then decided it needed something else, so re done it.

There is no right or wrong order. It's what You like the sound of that counts. Most people tend to stick the tuner & then the octave 1st as you may want a clean sound going into them, just like Doddy says. The best thing to do is play about & get the sound you like, this could take years but is 1/2 the fun of having effects. My board goes loop on > octave > Bass Murf, which then has left channel clean 110 hz low shelf & the right channel goes to dirt > filter > chorus (turn off the Murf & it's just clean with or without octave) Loop off > filter > chorus.

It's a good idea in theory, but youtube clips are gonna sound like the speakers you're playing them through.

I usually start with either a bassline or a melody. Voice memos on the iphone is a very handy thing for times when you can't get to a daw. This month's might get done for the repeat next year at the rate I'm going. I managed to sort a little more guitar & then turned the xbox on after 15 mins.

I've got PLI through New Moon. They cover my bass & I get it with it. £25 p/a.

I don't know how an accurate list could be made unless the same bass & cab is used with every comparison. A couple of pedals & almost any amp can sound similar to any other, the only difference being the quality of the gear & the overall sound coming out. When it comes to studio recording, the producer can make your bass sound like anyhing you want. I still don't get why someone wants to sound like "insert your fave bass player here"? Unless you're playing in a tribute band. "Yay, you sound just like JJ, but not as good at playing". What a compliment!

A 1/2 decent compressor would easily cost as much as a M5. I think your best option would be to find some local shops that have various compressors & limiters, take your gear along & try until you find what you like the sound of.

What about a Line 6 M5, M9 or M13? Would give you what you want & some other effects to play with too.

You could use the PA instead of a combo. I'm not sure that the POG has dry & wet outs, but if you want fuzz bass at the same time, then that wouldn't be an issue & you could put it all to your bass amp.

EHX Micro POG. Set it to dry & Octave up, stick dirt on the effect out & send it to a guitar combo, pop the dry out to your bass rig & robert is yer gramps other son. Edited to let you know that I do something similar, but more complex using a Boss OC3, a Bass Murf & a cheap dirt pedal.

I believe the closing date is 7 days before mumph end. As for mixing & monitoring, I used to have a set of Yamaha monitors & a Sennhesser cans, but now I mix through a set of Sony earbuds & then unplug them from the mac & use it's own speakers. If it still sounds good, then it does for me (I wouldn't sell it though).

A couple of £ will get you a large black (or whatever colour you like) permanent marker. Pop the grille off the MB & colour the cone, problem solved.

I would have thought that being able to play a busy bassline & sing really well would be classed as a virtuoso skill.

A lot of the Beatles albums had Bass & drums on one channel & guitars & singing on the other, or similar (a good use of stereo for us musicians).

The White album is an excellent listen. I also like playing things like Taxman, Come Together, Rain Dear Prudence & Something. All good fun.
