1. Looking forward to getting time to listen to everyone's tracks. Should be able to next week. I've been a bit on the busy side this past couple of weeks & never managed to get anything completed (not even worth entering what I've done). A shame, because I had some great ideas & just didn't have the tools to do it quickly with the limited time that I've had. Looking forward to next week's though. Best of luck everyone.
2.
Your amp and cab are fine, you just need a second cab. You're only putting out 150-ish watts into 2 10" speakers.
Corrected. Ooops, Pete beat me to it. Like everyone says though - add another cab. Orrrr...... You could sell it & get a louder 2x10 (or other cab). Like
3.
I'll try and get the entries up tomorrow, I'm heading up Norwich way so it wont be first thing in the morning
Ahh good. I'll try & get mine finished in the morning if I can. I'm working til 10pm tonight.
4. I know entries have to be in today. I'm nearly done, so hope to get it in on time. Looking forward to listening to all the entries.
5.
Yeah but how do you rate my Jimmy Savile impression? Cheers mate
I haven't had a chance to listen to any entries since the first couple, but I'm imagining that your JS impression involves sitting the bass on your knee, fiddling with it's bits & then fingering it? I'm still at work, so can't hear anything (I'll be here til 9:30 ).
6. I'd go with this idea from Sollophonic Guitars...
7. Cheers! I've been looking for that video for yonks & couldn'trememember the name of the pedal. All guitarists & keys players should invest in one! Improves the bass tenfold.
8.
^ I might have some Latin percussion samples that I could happily bundle over to you on email, or whatever. Can't promise anything but I really don't mind having a look on my 'puter when I get home tonight, if that's any help. PM me if so and I'll see if I can dig out something useful.
Cheers. Very kind of you, but there's no need as the geetar side of things wasn't working, so I've abandoned it (though I'm gonna make the song eventually for my own pleasure). The guitars sounded good on their own but the minute you added anything it just went to noise. Even with just drums!
9.
Believe me, it can be even more annoying being able to sing expressively and in tune whithout being able to prevent oneself sounding like a f***ing hollowed out mallard.
Next month we should maybe make it a singing competition. Accapela!
10. My original idea was to have a rocking 1st 1/2 with guitars & some screaming vocals & then going into some Latin American drumming with bits of the guitar & adding woodwind & doing the same melody. But trying to make an electro acoustic guitar rock is HARD, I haven't got the tools or samples for the percussion that I wanted to do & to top it off I've probably got the worst singing voice anyone could probably have. It's not bad in a funny way, more of a "SHUT UP YOU ANNOYING WAZZICK" sort of way. I hold no tune whatsoever. Back to breakbeat then.
11. Still the same, but like Karlfer says, the mods are doing a fantastic job.
12. Cheers for the uploading advice. I normally just export as mp3 & upload to soundcloud. I've abandoned what I was trying to do & gonna start afresh. It was going to incorporate both pics, but some things just aren't working. I can't sing a jot, so expect an instrumental again.
13.
Every time they mention tinnitus on TV, they talk about a loud whooshing noise, not a whining noise. I'm listening to my WHEEEEE noise right now, I've got two notes, one of them too high to guess the note. I also heard that these whining noises are your body's natural sound...think of all those moving parts in your body, they can't be silent can they?
Same here! Now I've got that wonderful "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" in my ears. Hearing aids a good for reducing it.
14. You might also want to add a downslope filter. Most filters only offer an upslope on the envelope, but a couple have an up/down switch (EHX QTron, EBS Bassiq, Soundblox BEF, MuTron, etc). The Moog MF-101 doesn't have an up switch, but I get round this by taking a TRS lead from the Envelope out to the Cutoff in & get good results for 80's & 90's synth sounds & even a convincing upright bass sound (when used on it's own).
15. Only thing that I can see missing is from the global view (Basschat.co.uk) you can't see what the last post was without going into the section. Edit to correct.
16. If it were I, I would get a Markbass combo (that's what I did). I would however, go & try one before you do (same goes for any gear).
17. If you like the Ashdown, go for the Ashdown. If you get to a volume that sounds bad, back off on the low end or get a 2nd cab (unless you go for a 4 ohm cab, then you're stuck).
18. Could you do it in Braille for us deaf metallers?
19.
haahaa yes thanks, It was fun to make. I had to look it up as I thought a falsetto was a type of Italian tomato! I practice with my cat like this every day.
He keeps on going about how he's still connected. To what? The Moon?
20. As long as you submit your remix before the closing date, I don't see there being any probs. Last month I entered & then decided it needed something else, so re done it.

Pedal boards

There is no right or wrong order. It's what You like the sound of that counts. Most people tend to stick the tuner & then the octave 1st as you may want a clean sound going into them, just like Doddy says. The best thing to do is play about & get the sound you like, this could take years but is 1/2 the fun of having effects. My board goes loop on > octave > Bass Murf, which then has left channel clean 110 hz low shelf & the right channel goes to dirt > filter > chorus (turn off the Murf & it's just clean with or without octave) Loop off > filter > chorus.
22. It's a good idea in theory, but youtube clips are gonna sound like the speakers you're playing them through.
23. I usually start with either a bassline or a melody. Voice memos on the iphone is a very handy thing for times when you can't get to a daw. This month's might get done for the repeat next year at the rate I'm going. I managed to sort a little more guitar & then turned the xbox on after 15 mins.
24. I've got PLI through New Moon. They cover my bass & I get it with it. £25 p/a.
25. I don't know how an accurate list could be made unless the same bass & cab is used with every comparison. A couple of pedals & almost any amp can sound similar to any other, the only difference being the quality of the gear & the overall sound coming out. When it comes to studio recording, the producer can make your bass sound like anyhing you want. I still don't get why someone wants to sound like "insert your fave bass player here"? Unless you're playing in a tribute band. "Yay, you sound just like JJ, but not as good at playing". What a compliment!
