1. As I have the morning off, I decided to amend my entry. When I was listening to it, I didn't like the way the 2nd bassline sat (the one after the intro) & I could hear a little extra too. So here's the same song, amended... http://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/novembers-dirt
2.
Ok, here's my effort this month: http://soundcloud.com/skollob/ruckus WARNING: this song contains strong language (specifically one s*** and three mother******s). Not safe for work, at home with the family or in the car with grandma. With that disclaimer out of the way… this is my first punk/metal track in nearly 20 years. I'm used to working with fast and energetic genres like drum'n'bass, so it was sort of familiar in that respect but very different in others. I certainly had a bunch of fun making it. And for the record, if anybody else can think of word that rhymes with "ruckus", other than "suckers" and the word I ended up with, then you win my admiration and would make a formidable Scrabble opponent. PS: contains samples sourced under Creative Commons license from www.freesound.org
Not fair! You can sing. I like it too!
3.
My iphone autocorrects Xmas to Xmax...
Well in a couple of months you can wish us all a Merry Xmax, sss.
Am I the only person who saw this topic title and throught: "So here it is, Merry Xmax, everybody's having fun"?
Cheers HJ, I've now got Xmax songs going through my head!
4. I suppose you could always get a 2nd 121 if you needed to & still have a small footprint with a big sound. There's a few folk on here use the 2x10 traveller, but I don't believe it has the low end of the standard 2x10 (kinda obvious i suppose). So if you don't need the lows, there's a cab that's barely wider than the LMII.
5. Lozz, you should have a try on the 2x10 hf, see if it suits you. Still not as light as the NY121 though.
6.
Huh? Marshall? It sounds lovely, and is perfect for my needs (however, the popping is getting RIGHT on my tits!)
Sorry buddy, just my sense of humour. Marshall are more known as a guitar rig maker & not so revered in the bass world. Saying that though, the DBS range do get a good review & was one of the amps I looked at when shopping. IMO the cab you have is not the best of designs, but if it gives you the sound you want, then that's what matters.
7.
She's under 25 I'm turning 26 this weekend so your old enough to be my dad too
You're lucky I've not been to Cambridge, though I'd have been 15 (man, it passes soo quick!!!).
8.
That been the case I would still like to know how to get the best out of it. Any advice?
Sell it to a 3rd knob.
9.
Club 29 Sunday afternoons 2 till 5 Glasgow . Streamliner 900 + Prefaced midget t
Doncha love auto correct! Lol
10.
Well seing as he's into prodigy and (I think they're called) orbital... it might be
Come to think of it, I'm probably old enough (in theory, of course) to be your girl's dad (legally, if she's under 25) & as I grew up listening to stuff from Thrash Metal & Hard Rock to Jungle, Hardcore & Breakbeat & love This kind of stuff (us old farts ain't into sedated elevator music anymore!).
11. Is the next single gonna be called "Dad's Dubstep"? Been listening to the album on bandcamp. It's awesome! Brilliant video too. I'd be well proud too.
12. Have you tried an envelope filter (on auto) on the bass & maybe even a little dirt (just a tad)? Good song, I likes!
13. Get yourself some sandpaper. 70 grit to get things started & then @500 grit to smooth things out & make it look worn. I prefer this finish myself...
14. The Ibby SoundGear basses are great for a multitude of styles. They do rock & metal & have the right image for those genres, but they'll sit nicely in any style of music. Mine started out playing metal & rock, then went to blues & funk, then folk & country & now it's doing DnB & Dubstep. Brilliant bass & I've never played something yet & thought "I could replace the Ibby with that", though a Dingwall did come close.
15. MarkBass gets my vote. When's the next bass bash down your way? Bound to be a few you could A/B at one, or go see some local bands & see who has wha you like the sound of.
16. I was going to do my entry all bass & guitar & not use any virtual instruments, but I wasn't getting what I wanted. Next month I might go down the all bass route.
17. I think you've got an awkward choice & if it was me, I'd try & get a go of each one or something similar from each manufacturer & try before buying.
18.
Haahaa, nope not quite. 30 years ago I was playing lead guitar (badly), harmonica and Northumbrian pipes, but(not at the same time. I have been playing bass for about a year. In between I played no music only pinball
You played pinball for 30 years? You are keen!
19. It's hard enough finding a drummer, let alone a good one. It's a shame that Columbian drummer doesn't live up here, I could use a chap like him & I'm happy not to gig on Saturdays. My last drummer was an awesome drummer that could go from shed building to dusting & keep good time too. He used to play in a Jazz band & loved playing in interesting time signatures (Me & Him used to play some interesting breaks when the guitarists was messing with their amps/pedals). Unfortunately, his job took him north of Aberdeen. Best of luck on finding your drummer.
20. 30 years of playing bass with no band! That's one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Enjoy it.
21. Sweet. The good thing about being the bassist at a gig is that you can stand at the back next to the drummer if you feel nervous. Remember the important bit... Have Fun!
22. I'm wanting to see your cab now. Incidentally, Markbass cabs also use B&C drivers.
