1. I think the main factor is personal taste. One man's perfect combination is another's fartbox. I've read a few folk on here over the years saying that "X" bass sounds crap through their rig, but "Y" bass sounds awesome.
2. My suggestion is the Vox Venue 30 bass combo. The one I have has even saw a few gigs.
3. If you shop around, you can pick up a MB combo s/h for under £500. Not sure if that's still pushing your limit though?
4. If you can stretch your funds (sell your amp), have a look at the Markbass combos. Loads of volume from a small, light rig. Like above, Barefaced would probably be my choice if going down the amp/cab route. Or build a BFM cab.
5.
tested them again today with a 4x10 as well. Needs the volume up a bit (!) to get the top end /horn to 'show', all very subtle but effective.
Sorted ok?
6. I take it the cabs are lying horizontally? Have you tried them vertically & does it have the same issue? It does seem rather odd.
7. Do the cabs have a dial on the side/back?
8. Stack them vertically & problem solved.
9.
Watching the speakers in my Markbass cab jump all over the place confirms that they have CRAZY excursion! I don't have a clue whether it makes them louder, but it's reassuring to know that they're able to move that much more as they're so much less likely to get damaged... Never heard of one blowing!
Don't say things like that! Next gig (if there's one) I'll try some subby dub sounds at loud volume & Ppppppppphh! Bvvvvv Bvvv Bvvv Bvvvvvvpppp.
10. When I was researching what to buy, I recall that the B&C drivers have a longer excursion than the majority of other drivers (wait a min, didn't I post something similar about 6 months ago?). So that might part explain them being so loud?
11. Bergantino? Bugera? Baer?
12.

13. Tony, have you tried a 2x12?
14. Wait a minute... Are you implying that there might be some famous acts that use pitch correction live?!?!
15.
What was good in '92? Not much.
Ibanez SoundGear. My main bass is a '90 SR1000E.
16. A guitarist friend of mine has a 71 Jazz bass which is my birth year (all original bass too!). He bought it off the bassist with the London Philharmonic back in the early 80s for £50. He also has a matching P bass from 73 (he's a Fender collector & has 30 + guitars).
17.
http://www.talkbass....acement-250675/ The 5th post down (from Rodent) might be helpful
I read that & used it as a reference when I was changing the bridge on my bass. The only thing I didn't get is why clamp the neck? Why not just put the bolts in to hold it?
18. I used to play a couple of songs in drop D, but now I use an octaver on -1 so no need for that anymore. Back in the 90s I used to always be tuned down to Eb, but that was just for the singer.
19. The other option is to put the pic on another website & then put the link in image quotes (you can click the wee image box that's below the "text colour" arrow).
20.
completely rubbish responses to her questions...i'd have been in her knickers within 10 minutes............honest....
It depends. Had I been in my 20s, the answer to her 1st Q would have been "Yeah, You like bass? I've got an awesome fingering technique". But nowadays I would probably have given the same answers (well, not entirely true. I don't have a red bass or a Squier ).
21. That's a good track Nige. Nice work! I've got some ideas that I'm hopefully gonna get to work on next week.
22.
Well, it's obviously difficult to be a drummer and literate (even less computer literate...), ain't it..? In the same way as it's difficult to find an open-minded bass player. Evident, really. No, seriously; I think the difference is finding a decent, interesting UK/European drum site (I'm in France...). There are, indeed, a couple of credible forums, but 99.99% Yankee. Nothing too personal, but I sometimes have to hold my tongue with some of the remarks that come up. I'm not totally convinced by all aspects of the American Dream, and often feel that I'm alone in some debates. Our BC forays are much more my 'cup of tea', and would be what I would appreciate most in a forum. I'm happier with this, although one doesn't necessarily have to be 'good' to an active member of a forum (or at least, I hope not, for my sake..!) No malice intended, anyway; just gentle 'ribbing' on my part. Put that knife down; you'll hurt someone.
I'm glad you got my humour. I was in the local music shop a couple of weeks ago & I said I needed to pop to the drum shop (RWJ in Perth) & the response was "you'll find all the drummers in there, they have a sandpit & crayons". Unfortunately, despite there being a dedicated drum shop, Perth doesn't seem to have many drummers. Just a load of guitarists (which stereotypically seem to be more like what we jest as a drummer to be ). I think if Basschat & Drumchat linked to one another, that would be a benefit to anyone trying to start a band & can't find a drummer/bassist (most adverts I see in music shops say "Bassist & Drummer required..". I've been tempted to get myself a drumkit & get back into playing drums.
23.
Why 'maybe'..?
Are you implying that it's definitely that reason? Well I only know a few drummers & there's not many of them that go online. Saying that, the one's that do go online are pretty darn good. OK, I'll rephrase it. Maybe a lack of good drummers that can be bothered going on line.
24. I play several instruments & settle on bass as my main. But I'm happy to play guitar, keys, trumpet, banjo or drums even with other musicians. Oh, I did play bass & kick drum for a few songs a couple of years ago. Had a good novelty factor, but I wouldn't overdo it. Mike Oldfield plays everything on Tubular Bells (a cracking album that I haven't heard for years).
25.
whatever happened to this?
Lack of drummers that know how to use a computer maybe?
