I know how you feel. I'm 41 & thanks to my youthful looks, I still get the odd 40 year old person trying to treat me like he's got more experience in music than I (he might well do, who knows? I've only been playing bass for @ 27 years & it's still my most recent instrument to learn). You're the one with the regular gigs, so look at the positives in getting treated like a noob. You can surprise them with your skills & if that doesn't do it, forget them.

If amps & cabs was rated on watts alone, then your maths would be correct. However, they're not & your TB1000 could blow the 1200 watt 8x10 fairly easily. Scenario: Amp is 1000 w at 4Ω & 650 w at 8Ω. At full tilt, that's what it's gonna put out regardless of the cabs attached. So 2 600w 8Ω cabs are gonna get 500w each at full waldy. What the cabs then do with that wattage is down to loads of different factors such as the excursion of the driver, how well the cab has been designed to get the most from the driver & so on. 2 4x10s or 2 1x15s will normally sound better than one of each. Hope that helps slightly?

I'm another for having the bass the same height sitting or standing so I can play the same either way. If you're aiming for body down low & head near your lug, couls I suggest one of these...

What makes a bass look really cool or really ugly ? Any candidates ?
xgsjx replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
Make that 5 that don't like the look of Fenders. I like everything about them apart from that hideous top horn! (we need a "Puke" smiley) So to me, Fenders ain't cool. But they're good workhorses. Cool basses need to have "style" about them. So like Fat Rich say's, it's down to a person's taste. But for the final word on cool... -
^^^ Like he says. My combo is in essence just a LMII attached to a 2x10 cab & there's a short cable hardwired to the speakers with a 1/4" jack that's plugged into the amp. If I wanted to use a different amp, I'd need a lead with a female jack on the end that's going to the "cab".

This chap's not too bad with the drum covers too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCuXp-FYwjA Certainly worth taking a look at his youtube channel... http://www.youtube.com/user/deedlebag/videos?view=0

Some excellent drumming on all those. This guy's my fave drummer at the mo... Gotta watch this one all the way through! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKve3TyC0Sk & his band... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjIkArlKH4k

Good to see someone giving newbies a step into joining a band. Can only be good. I was expecting to find a binman playing Garbage songs.
Definitely haven't abused it, it's got a few scuffs from narrow doorways and gig wear and tear, but as far as actually using it, the master volume never goes past 12 o'clock, even less with the extension cabinet. I rang Dawsons before, they're ringing Marshall and will get back to me on Monday. Or so they say...
No reason why it shouldn't be a straight "send it in & we'll send it back fixed".

There's the EHX HOG & the Eventide Pitchfactor & I'm sure Boss & TC Helion make things too.
-
Even outside the guarantee, it should be covered for repair (or replacement) if it's a known issue or faulty part & you've not been abusing it. Should be no cost to you other than maybe postage back to Dawsons. Phone them.

Like Skol say's, you don't need to associate Facebook with it if you don't want to.

Brilliant. Great excuse to hear Honk Toot. Now I'm off to listen to the rest of that album (Black Water by Kris Drever). If you like your folk music & haven't got it, get it.
http://soundcloud.com/bobbass4k/ponizovje My entry. I know the mix is awful but I don't think I'm gonna get time to redo it. It ended up infinitely more complicated than I'd planned. Some advice, if you end up with 7 tracks labelled "glitchy texture", you should take a step back and ask yourself if maybe you've overdone things. I don't really expect anyone to like it, it's a little esoteric even for me, but I actually finished it which is a rarity for me, so i'm happy. Oh, and the tiltle is relevant, I'll be impressed if anyone gets the reference. I was going to put it in the original cyrillic for full pretentious points but it seemed a little inconsiderate.
Nothing wrong with the mix through earphones to my ears. I like it, sounds very Tangerene Dream to me (that's a good thing).
So, I'd just need a 1/4" to 1/8" cable?
You want a mono (TS) 1/4 jack wired to just 1 side of a stereo (TRS) 1/8 jack (they're usually called 3.5mm jacks). Popping a mono jack into your computer might (though it might not) do some damage & popping a stereo 1/4 jack into your fx send or bass might not send anything if the sleeve gets no contact. You might need to make the cable up yourself. Mind & don't plug into a speaker out!
-
PC or Mac? I did mine in GarageBand on the Mac & for the bass, I took a mono 1/4 jack that's wired to one channel of a stereo 1/8 jack, plugged the 1/4 end into the fx send & the other end into the line in on the Mac. No reason why you couldn't do the same on a PC with Reaper.

I just bang the strings & hope some good notes come out when I hold a Bb m11.

+1 There's been a couple of MarkBass combos recently for just under £500, which in my eyes, is a bargain!
-
These was not supplied with PSUs in the UK. They'll run on any 9v + tip that chucks out 300ma (they'll run on anything upto 15v actually & one of the few moog pedals that happily daisychain on power). For folk wanting to experiment with sounds, rhythmic basslines & even do some cool routing, these are brilliant pedals.

I've no experience with either, but depending on the venue, the band & what the Ampeg's sensitivity is like, you might get a surprise at what gig's a small amp can do (as long as you don't need masses of low end). Though I'm with Lozz, I'd be looking at the other options before buying anything. What's your budget (I'm guessing £400, abased on the Ampeg)?
-
Are you set on a Fender? There's a whole wealth of awesome basses available if not.
-
I used to use a Vox Venue 30 Bass combo. A nice smallish 1x12. Ironically, it weighs more than my Markbass 2x10 combo, despite being about 1/3 of the size! Why not just get a small 1x10 (1x12) cab to plug the GB into & leave that at home?
ta never mind the effects im distracted by the music page now
Welcome to the world of effects. Your bass will never be the same again!
I would of thought that what you are hearing is the envelope being exploited more as the chorus sweeps a higher frequency range. If you have dirt on you'll have more top end harmonics, which will be amplified in the higher frequencies by the chorus. The envelope in the LPF will be heard in those high peaks as the modulation sweeps up. The envelope amount won't be moving, but th sweep of the chorus is making more of that envelope audible. I may be wrong... But that'd be my explanation
You might be right, but it's when I open the envelope follower. If the chorus is on quite strong, it affects the Wah effect. I'll record it sometime & you can see what you think. I've also had the Murf do unusual stuff with the envelope on it when I had things routed differently.

The Berhinger di pedal is supposed to be really good (almost as good as a sansamp).
