1. I like that. Maybe needs a bit better EQing/panning on the sounds, but it has a sad Autumn feel about it. It sounds like part of a film score. Infact, come to think of it, so do the other entries! Well if there's any film makers on here, there's a film to be made with the entries.
2. I'd maybe look at one of the 1x10" or 1x12" combos from the likes of Markbass, Genz Benz, Ibanez & so on. Then if at a later date you need more power for gigging, you can add another cab. If you're not planning on gigging at all & just want for in the house, then you wouldn't need to spend more than a couple of hundred.
3. OK here's my entry. I haven't got monitors to master on, so it was done using a set of earphones. The bass was played & recorded live & no editing done (what you hear is how it came out the amp). http://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/late-summer
4. Liking the tracks so far. I'm uploading what I've managed to get done.
5. My suggestion would be to find a shop that stocks a few different rigs & take your bass along. One person's perfect sound is another's worst. Patitucci uses Aguilar rigs & East uses TC Electronic rigs. I think both them use a Yamaha bass. So it's down to your budget & what you like. Both them also use pedals to further tailor their sound.
6. A trumpet player would be good. I can understand wanting to be in a band rather than in a bedroom, but they're already in bands!? I agree that a bit of rock mixed in would work. New age electro ceilidh? That could be interesting.
7. I've been in a few different bands over the years (decades). I've played Rock, Metal, Punk, Country, Folk, Blues & loads of other stuff. Now that my most recent band seems to be out of reach for me to remain a member of, I'm trying to start up a new band/project to play electronica/breakbeat/house/drum n' bass/dubstep etc. A couple of days ago I put an advert on the company forum & also in the vending areas on my floor that just said "Musicians Wanted", what my plan is & how to get me. So far 3 guitarists have been in touch! All nice guys that I know, but 2 of them I have no idea why??? One of them was in my team before moving to a different team. When he was in my team he said "I like all sorts of music except Drum n Bass, Dubstep & any of that electronic beepy stuff", the sort of stuff I'm wanting to do. So why the heck does he want to join this project? The other is in a typical guitar baised rock band & has 2 effects pedals, an overdrive & a distortion. He likes his Marshall rig set at 11. He said "I could just get a wah pedal & that'll cover the funk & soul sort of stuff". I don't think he gets it at all. The other one I think he might be a good candidate though from the musical taste side. But I've no idea what his playing is like. So I'll give him an audition. Just thought I'd share my musical adventures & I'll keep updating this to see if things go to plan.
8. Been working on a track & got the melody, bassline, chords & a few other bits put down in Garageband. Just need to arrange things & complete things. Shall try & put down some real bass too.
9.
English: expatriate - a person who lives from choice in a foreign country
Is that the same as an immigrant?
10.
Of course I'm from Ireland, but don't call me Shirley.
Ok Pat.
11. Never tried the 1205, but if it's 1/2 as good as the SR1000 then it's bound to be awesome. Now I'm interested. Do they do a fretless, or is there just the GWB???
12.
yup, not a massive issue. i would be more concerned that they only work at the last quarter of a turn. my guess would be to put taper pots in.
Here's a thought. If they're wired backwards, would that not mean that it woudl then be the 1st quarter a turn? Wwhen I rewired the electrics in my bass, I put a logarithmic taper pot on the volume & a linear taper pot on the tone (the other 2 pots are Pick up blend & I now have one to control CV on moogers (the black knob). The white stripes are just insulation tape that I was using to mark where I was drilling a hole in the back to fit the CV jack. I never tok them back off.
13.
Sheer bollocks! Xgsjx is not a Norwegian name, and you totally lack our simplistic outlook on life.
His surname was Watten. He changed it to xgsjx to confuse the british! I think living in Scotland has taken away my simplistic Outlook. The IT bod's just been over & installed a load of rubbish on my Outlook Toolbar.
14.
[pedant]Actually it's another term for emigrant.[/pedant]
That depends. My Grandad emigrated from Norway & became an immigrant in England & then emegrated to Scotland (He joined the police in Yorkshire & got stationed in Glasgow). Edited to add a country!
15.
No, it's Latin 'ex patria', just means 'out of your country'. I guess literally 'your fatherland'
This is why I love BC. Learn something new every day! (Still another term for immigrant though )
16.
Didn't know Squier was an ex-pat, though...
I never understood what the term "Ex-Pat" meant until recently. Turns out to be another term for Immigrant. I asked one of my friends who says he's an ex-pat (he's in China) & he said it means "Ex Patriot", So I guess that means "Someone who no longer feels a strong support for his or her country"?
17. If they're working backwards, does that not mean they're just wired the wrong way round?
18. Do you have a cab already or by "amp" do you mean combo? If you're after just a head then there's loads of good amps in your price range. A Markbass LMII would be my call, but there's Hartke, Ashdown & quite a few others worth trying.
