1. Welcome to the MB club. Hope it serves you well & looking forward to your review.
2. If the Ampeg's min load is 4 ohms , then no.
3. Like most above have said, good solid workhorses that weigh the same. From your other thread, you're looking for amp/cab or combo for @ £400. There's a lot of things out there that fits in your budget from Ashdown & Hartke to Peavey & so on. I'd recommend a 2nd hand Markbass LMII head (usually @ £250 - £300 now) & get yourself a decent 2x10 with what's left & then add another 2x10 or upgrade the cab when funds allow. Go & try some stuff & see what you get on best with.
4.
Almost. There are various ways of wiring up such cabs, though I'm not familiar enough with 'standard practice' (if there is one) to give a definitive answer of how that ARE wired, only how they MIGHT be wired. A 210 cab could be wired as: 2 x 16ohm drivers in parallel to give an 8 ohm cab 2 x 4ohm drivers in series to give an 8 ohm cab a 410 cab could be wired as: 4 x 32ohm drivers in parallel to give an 8 ohm cab 2 x 8ohm drivers in series to give 16 ohms and these two in parallel with another 2 x 8ohm drivers in series, which gives an 8 ohm cab 4 x 2ohm drivers in series to give 8 ohms The only way to be sure is to open up the cab and check the actual wiring (and the labels on the drivers!).
Thank you I always get series & parallel mixed up (in name) if I don't check. I'd just wire red to blue & blue to bits.
5. It depends on how they're wired. If wired in parallel, then the drivers are 8Ω. Of wired in series, then the 2x10 has 16Ω drivers & the 4x10 has 32Ω drivers. Or is it the other way round?
6. Make your own Pick up??? You mean like this?
7. I used to use a Vox Venue 30 Bass. Weighs heavier than my MB 2x10 combo, but was about 1/3 of the size with a single 12" driver. I even did a few gigs with the wee thing & it coped (just). Would maybe suit your needs if the weight isn't too much of an issue.
8. No reason why it shouldn't work & sound good. Bass gear is very similar to PA gear as we bassists have a full frequency range to cover.
9. I believe the Ashdown ABM head has a min load of 4Ω. IIRC, 3 8Ω cabs would be 2.66Ω. This would heat up the head nicely, allowing you to cook the band's supper before the end of the gig. 4 8Ω cabs should then make the amp hot enough to boil a kettle/pan of water on so you can make cuppas to wash down the supper. Edited to ask: I've assumed you have an Ashdown head (or another head with a min 4Ω load). If you have a head that runs to 2Ω then plug & play. Or you could use 2 heads, putting 1-2 cabs on each.
10. Like Mr Foxen says, you need a tweeter. I've put a small church band through my MB 2x10 combo & it sounded good. It was 3 vocals, acoustic guitar, electro drumkit & either bass or another acoustic guitar. It was a fairly small hall (@50 folk tops), so it wasn't cranked & it reproduced everything pretty good with no distortion or struggles. So go for it. A few bass cab manufacturers suggest playing music through your cab at a reasonable volume for a few hours to break it in (I'm pretty sure it was an Ampeg booklet, though it might have been someone else)
11.
This ...
JT likes this so much he quoted twice!
12.
With respect my 2x12T would 100% kill it
Maybe. I've never heard your 2x12, but I don't doubt that it's loud. Fact is, a good 2x10 isn't quiet. I've used Trace Elliot 4x10s that are a lot quieter than my 2x10. The Amp is probably a factor there as well. But it would be a factor in any set up.
13. I think you might need to try a Markbass 2x10 as it's certainly not quiet. Many venues have complained I'm too loud.
14. A 2x10 will be in a smaller cab than the 4x10 & also has less drivers, so it's probably not going to be as loud straight in front of it. However, a vertical standing 2x10 will have a far better excursion than the 4x10 meaning it will have a more consistent sound when you move away from the front of it. 2x12 would be a good option also.
15. White one looks good & black crushed pearl sounds good too. Choices eh!
16.
I've not started mine yet but I'm starting of thinking along the lines of an epic/fantasy type score
I'm thinking Happy Hardcore myself.
17. I'm with BRX in the fact that it really depends on the type of music & what instruments you're playing with. Some of our songs you could use almost any bass tone (with or without effects), others just don't sit right if you don't make it more specific (eg: played with a pick, fingers & top rolled off or some effects).
18.
Relate...ish it's basically the idea of writing to a subject but that seemed like a much harder contraint when a picture has all the relevant information there. Have fun with it
So hazy water with trees. Might be an idea to pop a link to this in OT or General discussion for those who don't scroll down the forum often?
19. Has the song got to relate to the pic? I'll try & see what I can do.
20. Well wood isn't far away from yellow, so maybe a subtle blueish might go? Maybe you should pop a pic of your bass with the white scratchplate into photoshop & mess about with scratchplate colours. You can get wood dye if you do want it yellow. Not sure how it would look though, so maybe another thing to try in photoshop (or whatever you have to edit pics with).
21. I got most of my bits from these guys... http://www.rshelectronics.co.uk/ They was really helpful when I was trying to work out what I need. Maplin would probably be able to get all the bits too. A good place to go for more info is... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/78585-diy-effects/ I had a couple of hiccups during my build & got loads of help (as is the BC norm). I had an irritating buzz (was due to me getting a wire in the wrong place) and I couldn't get the LED to work (Again, my error. I didn't know LEDs had a + & - & wouldn't work if you put + to -, unlike a filament bulb). I've changed the knobs for ones that are similar to moog & old boss units.
22. You should give the MB rig a try in your full band. You might be well surprised.
23. You'd probably be as well to just hold on to it & sell or swap it if you get to a point where you need to.
24.
That looks cool man but I've just looked at that website and I've never been more confused my whole life...
There's some which are more simple to read than actual schematics on there. I used the "Passive Mixer" schematic which looks like this... You don't have to make it 3 channel. I just used the 2. Hope it helps?
25. How long have you had your cab? Might be worth having a word with where you bought it if recent.
