1. How did I miss this on Monday!?!? Brilliant stuff!
2. Why a 12? the only advantage it has is a smaller cab. But it also reduces a lot of other parameters & the 2x10 would most likely drown out the single 12. If you're getting 2 cabs, it's usually more sensible to get 2 the same.
3. I've used DV247 a few times & found them really good. It fills you with confidence & respect when someone from a company pops on here (or similar) & offers advice & help. I'll certainly look at Hartke gear in the future (if I don't switch back to keys) and if it was a split decision all ticking my boxes, service would be an extra box ticked for Hartke.
4. I'd say this... #29
5. I'd say a couple of 2x10s. But I did say that in your other thread & would post it in your new one if you wasn't determined on 12s. So on your new thread I'll say go with either 1 or 2 2x12s, depending on the cab. If it's a Barefaced, then you'll most likely only ever need one from what folk on here say (unless you're planning on some large tours).
6. Decibels = how loud a thing will go. Watts are different. Obviously you want cabs with a decent power rating to avoid burning them out volume, but I think any decent cabs are gonna handle the amp. It's down to what cabs you like the sound & look of.
7.
Good effort. Toight like a Toiger
Haha! I watched that film 2 nights ago fir the 1st time in yonks! The Mrs hadn't seen it & was expecting none of it to be funny, she was surprised. Cigar & a Crepe?
8.
Having played in heavy rock bands since 2001, look at my pic (though was like this 10 years prior to that)
But had you started before hand, things might have panned out different!
9. Wattage doesn't = volume. Go & try some amps & cabs & find out what you like. I could tell you the LMII is a brilliant little amp that will do all that you could ask & I wouldn't be lying, but some folk don't like it. I'm vary happy with mine.
10.
Nice one. Im not sure what is best tho. 2x 112 OR 1x 212.. Or even (a new contender) A 112 and a 210?
2 2x10s would be the best option IMO. But it is subjective to the cabs in question.
11. Like Lozz says, Barefaced get a lot of love & Alex does a 90 day return if you're not happy with it. It depends on what you're looking for it to do. A visit to a bass shop might be a good idea?
12. Good to hear you're getting somewhere. Experimenting is the answer! I use my filter after the distortion, but different pedals suit different ways. There is no "wrong way".
13. I'd put the EQ flat & playabout with the distortion (& other dirt sounds) until you find something you like, then play about with the EQ. I boost my distortion channel at notches of 350hz & 775hz & also slightly at 2khz ish. anything under 110hz and notched at 525hz is almost clean (unless the octaver is on). Spend a bit of time playing with your fx, it's 1/2 the fun & a joy when you find "that" sound.
14. What's a bass? Still enjoy playing, just like I did when I picked it up just over 28 years ago.
15. That's a bit like asking "What flavour is a cake meant to be". It can be whatever you like. Youtube is your friend for finding out what different things sound like. I like mine like this... http://soundcloud.com/bassg/fears
16.
BIGGER
They could have put the ports at the bottom so more folk get the air.
17. I'm another who plays in an "acoustic" band. Vocalist who plays guitar & occasionally banjo, mandolinist who plays uke, whistle & spoons & me on bass & occasionally guitar. It's really down to what style of music you're playing on what you use & play. I use quite a few effects in most songs whereas others I'll use none (some I won't even play much bass if there's no need to, or pick up the guitar). Here's some of our stuff to give you an idea... Bigroom practice set. The important bit is having fun.
18. Get flatwound strings. Sounds like new for years!
19. If you can solder & drill holes, fitting a couple of LEDs & a battery clip is a simple task (it'll probably give you a pedal building bug too). Have a look in the DIY pedals sticky on here.
20.
Can the band bring their own shoes?
And their own Balls?
21.
That actually got me thinking. A lot of 700+ watt heads dont seem to be available with a 2ohm carrying capacity. Strange really. 2ohm = 16x10 = more than most will ever need.
Stacked vertically?
22.
Ha, I always go for the 4 ohm option, purely to prevent me from buying another cab. Because I know I would.
There's always a way around that..... 2Ω head!
23.
I'm from the 'old skool' when it comes to bass rigs. My main rig, as a few of you already know is an SWR1500 paired with two Golly 4x10's and looks like this (gratuitous rig shot) However, until recently (i.e. yesterday ) I have also been using an Orange Terror Bass into my 8 ohm Schroeder 21012-a-like which sounded wicked, was loud enough for most of the gigs I do, and was so portable as to mean only two trips to the car rather than the usual 5. When I re-speakered the Schroeder cabinet I opted for 8 ohms as at that time I could never have imagined using only one cab, so always had the intention of building a second one, but having used it on its own with the Terror Bass I wished I'd opted for a 4 ohm version.
A couple of nice rigs there! Having the 8 ohm version does have better resale potential (& the ability to add another if ever needed) & the 4 ohm wouldn't be moch louder than what you have.
24.
In theory true, but there's a wide variety of 2x10 combos out there and plenty (not all) would be stressed to buggery trying to keep up with what a 50w valve guitar amp can give out. Also an 8x10 doesn't usually have a bigger 'footprint' than a 2x10 combo anyway, so unless you're playing somewhere with a dangerously low ceiling, the only issue is transportation. Been able to wheel mine out the van, into the venue and a couple of us lifting it onto a stage, is a lot less hassle for me than carrying a 2x10 combo about.
if you're putting the 2x10 on the horizontal, then the footprint is the same, but ideally you don't really want horizontal drivers if you don't have monitors or a PA. I don't agree with you regarding the 2x10 being stressed against a 50w combo as most 2x10s these days are more than capable, but then it does depend on the guitar combo. My 2x10 had no trouble against a Vox AC30, a 100w Marshall 1/2 stack & a shed building drummer.
