1.
Learning it is one thing... playing it in a freezing cold rehearsal studio is another - extremely tiring track to play!!
That's why they're called Extreme!
2. I use whatever I need to to get the job done. I'll try by ear first, maybe writing a chord chart for the longer/trickier songs. But for the more tricky ones to pick out, I'll use score, tab, Basschat, YouTube or whatever else I need to. Off to learn Get The Funk Out! Cheers Conan & Higgie!
3. Why a 4x10? My opinion is that the 4x10 is a poorly designed cab for the pub gig or any gig that you're relying on it for the band/audience to hear you properly. I'd have a read on some of the other topics in this section about cabs & then decide if you want the 4x10. Here's a couple to get you started... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/176362-bass-rigs-the-bigger-the-better-in-my-experience/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/180123-2x12-vs-4x10/ I'd save up a bit extra & get a decent amp/cab or combo (really depends on what you want, I opted for combo for quickness & portability).
4.
Ohhhh that seems ace. Imagine the HH with moog stuff. Nom
There was a wee discussion on OBW when Will Cady revealed the HH3. I asked if it could be used with the moogs & he said yes, I tried to see if he wanted a swap (offered the wife too!), but he never confirmed it.
5.
SA Dual Expression pedal --- Subdecay Echoboc --- SA BEF Pro --- ss/bs TAFM --- SA MWD Pro --- ss/bs TAFM w/gate It started sometime in june, a late night conversation on skype with a mate (drummer, producer) reminiscing about the good ole days and ended with us looking to start a side project. Its not much, but this is where I am. Will have a 2nd hand Fuzzrocious GS next week to throw in there, bit of a fuzz off with the TAFM's . Pedal want list as long as my arm, just need to raise some cash.
Great start! I take it you've got very long arms?
6. Sounds like a win to me!

Pedal ident?

It looks like a byoc or similar. Without hearing his sound, I'm gonna take a stab at it being a dirt pedal.
8. What about plugging the bass straight into the desk? I've done that a few times & had no issues.
9. I don't have a back up amp, but what about specialist insurance? Does that not get an emergency replacement out to you straight away?
10. Tuner is best at the start, the rest is really up to how you want to sound. Some people will say stick the compressor 1st, some will say last, some will say in the bin. As for the EQ, it depends if you're wanting to shape what's going into pedals or what's coming out of them. Putting it after gain effects means you can roll off the top end to remove the harshness, but you might be trying to get that harshness. Play about with your pedal order, it's 1/2 the fun of having pedals. You'll probably move them about again in a year or so.
11. Moog Bass Murf does a very similar effect to what you're after. But it's not the cheapest or smallest pedal (you could get a seperate Fanger & Distortion pedal to fit in the same space & have some change for another pedal). But what it does, it excells at.
12. My recommendation is a 2nd hand Markbass 2x10 combo (or save a little more & get new). But they're very reliable. Reason being, I was in the same position (pub rock band) & tried countless rigs. Ended up settling on a combo (for quickness) & 2x10 because a 1x15 doesn't have as good a dispersion & I wasn't sure the 1x12 would do the job. Another good option would be a Barefaced cab with any of the decent small heads (there's loads that'll fit in budget). There's a lot of good gear in her budget though, so get her to try loads of different rigs. As for a 4x10, I wouldn't recommend one over a 2x10.
13.
Unlucky!!
I know. They're better than they used to be & was surprised that they chewed that wire.
14. Headphones aren't working (cat chewed the wire) & my Mrs is writing a tutorial for a magazine, so I have to wait until she's finished (been at it since Wednesday!
15. Top bloke & great interview. Still no sound to listen to your live stuff yet
16.
You'd be better off stacking them all together rather than at opposite sides of a stage. http://billfitzmauri....php?f=10&t=398
That would be one mighty tall tower! You'd need a Simon Snorkel to get to the amp. If you're doing things in stereo, I think you would get a better stereo reproduction if the cabs was at opposite sides
17. Buying s/h pedals off here has the advantage of "If you don't like it, sell it again" & there's usually no loss.
18.
Turn down the bass and treble and crank the volume.
My thoughts exactly!
19. Are you looking for a combo or an amp to go with your 1x15? Scrap that, you said "rack mountable", so that rules out the combo. I'll get 1st shout & say try some Mark Bass amps. Well within your budget, or are you looking to buy a cab as well & keep in budget? If you want a cab too, then Barefaced gets a lot of love (even from those who don't own any).
20. They could have just kept it simple and used the instrument name instead... You Cou(ld) Lay Leigh
21. My mandolinist told me that a few years ago, but I think you'd have to hear someone say it to understand it. I think it's G C E A. The G being the one above the C & E in the scale & the A above that. Like this actually... And sung "My Dog Has Fleeeeeeeeez"
22. I'd like a stereo rig with 2 Big Twins stacked either side of the stage.
23. I never liked much in the way of classical but I always liked 1812 & Holst's The Planets. Bach's Cello Suites are pretty good & you can learn them on bass too, so good for some solo stuff & good for getting the fingers moving. They ain't easy though (but fun never the less).
