And the amp would probably put out @ 350 watts to one 8Ω cab if you turned it right up (& maybe fry the voice coil).

1. You could try taking the baseplate off & turning it over (so the rubber is inside the case). But if you get some decent heavy duty Velcro & wipe the rubber with some meths, it should stick ok. 2. As long as your 9v PSU supplies enough amps & your polarities are ok, then fine. 3. There isn't a "best way" as such, it's down to what YOU like. Experimentation is the key (& 1/2 the fun). Other advice? Learn to spell Board & listen to classical music. Recommended pedals? If you don't know what you're gonna use, then plug into your computer or get a multi fx. No point buying a type of pedal someone else suggests as you might have no use for it. I'd say get a Moog Bass Murf, but you might find it as useful as a brick. I on the other hand, love what it does.

I'd use some of your money on a day trip to a decent bass shop & try some amps out. Otherwise you're gonna get recommended what we use. +1 for Markbass, had the2x10 combo for some time more & no issues to report.
This really is Spinal Tap stuff, isn't it?
I really want to see their "band" now. I'm picturing 4 girls dressed up as (in order of the pics) Dave Gahan (80s version), one of the Village People, Michael Jackson & Simon Le Bon!

I would say this...
A small bust and an average to skinny figure (Has a look that could fit into the band drawing image)
Needs to be reworded to
A couple of fried eggs and an anorexic to bulimic figure (Has a look that could fit into the band drawing image)
to fit the "band drawing image"...

I'd get it if I was in the same position. Then if things are taking off, I'd skip past the £2-300 gear if you can afford it & get a decent rig that's gonna suit your needs for the future.
-
Yes! I use the same bass, pedalboard & 2x10 combo at home, rehearsals & at gigs. I don't see the sense in rehearsing with a band & spending that time defining your sound, only to go & gig with something else.
Great minds think alike, I started typing ages ago then the phone went
I'm not an Ashdown fan either!

Your style of music can help to choose to a degree, but it's down to personal choice. There's a lot of combos in your price bracket in the " four sale" section on here. I would try a few out in a shop if I was you, but the good thing about buying 2nd hand is that if you don't like it, you can sell it at no loss. Going by your taste, it might be worth trying an Ashdown combo. They're described as " wooley".

Bass rigs-the bigger the better in my experience.
At the risk of causing offence I gigged on Sat with my Hartke Kickback 10 just to see if I could (stack at the ready just in case) and used the DI into the PA (Yamaha Club with s112's and S118 bass bins) rather than my usual Ashdown 600 with two 15's . Firstly I could hear myself better than ever because the speakers were pointing at me and not the audience, more than enough detail to let me vary my fingering and tone more than usual. I could also hear the rest of the band better, Talking to the audience in the break about the sound the reaction was; "you're a bit louder than the other bands and the bass is immense." I think the stack might be relegated to open air gigs from now on.
+1 If you're using PA & you only need a monitor, then what you have is solely for your own enjoyment/ego. For general pub & club gigs with no PA for the bass, then most 2x10 rigs would be more than ample. -

Have you tried a Sansamp or similar? Apparently they'll meet your old skool sounds with your new skool rig (I've not used one as I don't want an old skool sound). -
Been playing around with my set up today, think this is about the most logical layout I can get to. Sadly no space for the volume, starting to think I may have a two board set up to cover everything rather than going with a huge board.
I've always wanted to stick a BEF before my Moog LPF so I can WubWub with the HH & filter it in & out with the LPF & EP. Got me envious now!
And the assumption of the "amateur experts" that they know best because they read the book is an arrogance that I don't accept. There you go. Denigrating the experience of others and belittling their opinions when you haven't heard them. Snake oil comes at us from all directions, as it did when I was being told that mixed speaker sizes couldn't work.
I think you might have slightly misinterpreted what I was saying. If someone's A/Bd different rigs & says "X" is better than "Y" because of "N", then their experience & advice is most likely going to be solid (I think that's the right word I'm looking for). But if it's someone who's only ever used the same style of rig states that "I was told by X that you need a 4x10 & a 1x15" & have only ever used that, why would you take it as gospel? I don't see where I denigrated anyone's experience. I've never said mixing speaker sizes doesn't work, only that it can be unpredictable.
-
If you're playing it in a band situation, then you can use a standard tuning. If you're wanting to use it to impress your lady or friends, then an open tuning of your choosing from those above (or off tinterweb). Could try some Alt open tunings too. Have fun.
I spent the first 2 years on BC being told that mixing speakers sizes definitely never worked, when I was getting a great sound out of a mixed size rig! How can any of us assume we know exactly how a manufacturer’s cabs were designed? We can't. We should bow to a player’s experience of those cabs. They've done it and actually know if the result was good or bad.
But isn't that an assumption that "they should know"? Snake oil can be a powerful thing & if someone's been told that a 4x10 & 1x15 rig is the best & that's all they ever use, how would they know any different?

Does anyone make a separate mid-range speaker for a modular system?

I think a DIY build would be your best option. Maybe a fEARful build like Musky suggests? -
The easiest way to get your left hand in the correct position is to start without a guitar. Relax your hand and arm while imagining a guitar neck cupped there. Move your arm up and down and you'll feel your wrist 'pulling' if you go too low. Try 'hooking' your thumb and you'll find your fingers become more tense as they are pulled into a 'claw'. What you're after is a height and position where your arm, wrist and fingers are as pressure free as possible.
Sounds like you're having a chugg!

t'is a good point, but when I'm looking at houses I always look at area, age & a few other things to go with the bedrooms (these new places have bedrooms smaller than my pantry).

The action on my Ibby is currently just under 4mm. I used to have it down @ 2mm & it's a little easier to move around scales with the lower action, but nothing drastic. If it was lower or higher & I struggled to play the instrument, then I think more practice on my part would be required.
-
You know, I've never took much notice of how my thumb sits. It moves about depending on what notes I'm playing, but tends to mainly be rested horizontally on the apex of the neck. Just flicked through those vids above & glad to see I'm doing things the same.

Not really. It's a bit like saying Stoner Doom is Rock n Roll with a different name.
Okay here's the latest incarnation of my nano board. Despite the tempting looking gap I don't think I'll get an eighth pedal on there without something hanging over the edge
I'm sure you could squeeze a Moogerfooger in there somewhere!?!
