What happens when 2 female bass chatters meet for a coffee......
xgsjx replied to SpaceChick's topic in General Discussion
xgsjx .... you can recreate this adventure very soon! All you need is a mate and a free afternoon. Brit Floyd are heading to Scotland ...
I'd love to, but a wedding & a full re renovation of the house (coupled with the Mrs starting her own business) means no money or time. -
First thought - you should be asking the Mrs for advice. But after reading your post I'd say you need to adjust your strap position or play sitting sown to start with. I'm at work, so can't type loads just now, but have a look in teh techniques section on here.

Sounds like an excellent adventure!
Too true - as an aside we had a do for my daughter's 21st on Saturday and the only 2 non-drinkers( my elderly uncle and not so elderly mother-in-law) had a massive barny about gay marriage!
You shouldn't marry your elderly uncle! -
Is an '8 X 10' equivalent to a '1 X 80'?? Eh??

So why don't us bassists use Kicker subs?
How do you improve on a patented mechanical brute? Since the 18-inch S18X debuted in 2003, KICKER engineers have been working to make SoloX more advanced. This year they went all the way, creating the world’s ultimate bass machine. Patented square subwoofer technology designed with the serious autosound competitor in mind, SoloX Subwoofers go where no others can. The 10-inch S10X, the 12-inch S12X, and the absurd S18X… it’s KICKER ingenuity to the umpteenth power. The SoloX earmark is the SPAIR (Simple Pull Apart Insertable Replacement)™, the patented cone/coil assembly that differs from other field-replaceable cones because the woofer’s cast-aluminum basket and massive motor assembly (BAM) remains intact in the enclosure during reload. In 2008 the SPAIR, just as the SoloX itself, withstands unnatural amounts of abuse while retaining the infrastructure for thunderous bass that earned it both competitive SPL (sound pressure level) and sound-quality world championships within weeks of its original release. Additionally, the newest SPAIR retro-fits into the previous generation of SoloX BAM if needed, with no modification. More KICKER firsts provide protection against ruthless heat and other potential hazards. The distinctive UniPlate V.2™ hyper-extended, pole/backplate assembly stays cooler with X-Vent™ technology (pat.pend.), yielding enhanced heat transfer for maximum power handling as well. This breakthrough in subwoofer motor construction increases linear magnetic fields around the coil gap for superior cone-motion control, all while releasing pressure under the cone for freer suspension and enhanced low bass. OK, it slams. Further heat dissipation comes from the vented pole’s ARCTIC (Aluminum Rapid Cooling Thermal Induction Centering) Cap™, creating a Venturi-effect and forcing greater amounts of cooling air through the X-Vent, all while its high mass acts as a heat sink. SoloX’s dual voice coils and copper-clad-aluminum, edge-wound coil wire are oversized to withstand extreme heat too. No KICKER woofer possesses this many features to remain so reliable. Additional cooling comes from KICKER’s perimeter venting™, pumping out heated air trapped beneath the S10X and S12X’s S3 Triple Spider Array™ and replacing it with cooling outside air (Quad Spider Array on the S18X). The one-piece, injection-molded cone’s new spoke design supplies structural bracing and contains a rolled outer edge to increase rigidity and decrease flex under high excursion. Stitched surround helps to prevent cone/surround separation. SoloX subs also utilize removable spring-loaded binding posts, making connection to any type or size of wire quick and easy. For complete system flexibility, SoloX comes available with dual 2-Ohm or dual 4-Ohm voice coils, as do respective SPAIR models.
Just found the answer... My advice, just play originals and "your" take on covers. Now there's no mistakes.

I finally got around to dampening / bracing my laney cab!!
xgsjx replied to Dave Tipping's topic in Amps and Cabs
Top job. Liking the grill too. -
I downloaded G String tuner & DaTuner Lite to try both. DaTuner wins. TuneIn Radio is a great music app for listening to web radio (I never thought I'd listen to the radio so much!). Virtual Recorder for recording things on the fly (like a bassline when you can't plug in to anything & you want to record it so you don't forget it).

I'm back. You're pretty good at this interviewing malarky!
-
Glad you sticky'd it. Now to the interview.... ...Back soon.

+10000000000000000000 & for that, I'm gonna vote Genius!
How can a pedal cost that much exactly? Must be some damned expensive wood on the side I reckon.... (and yes this is entirely born of pedal envy, always wanted a couple of Moog filters, but cant justify the expense )
It's mainly due to the rarity of the chip. When you use a Moog anything, you then realise that they're a premium instrument.
-
Pretty cool!
-
Well there's not a peep from Moog today & nothing on the Moog site.
-
I'd get on Youtube/Spotify/Last FM & listen to loads of blues. All those mentioned & I'll chuck in Steve Earle for good measure. Standard blues basslines aren't hard (12 bar was the 1st stuff I used to learn bass) & they can be a lot of fun due to blues following a set pattern, leaving plenty of space for everyone to improvise.
-
The 104Z was @ £450, so it may well be. I always thought it sounded a tad dear for a delay, but when you think about what it is & the price of the chip itself (same one that's in the 108), then it becomes more appealing. We'll find out tomorrow!
-
It works, it just takes a bit of time & maybe a couple of attempts (probably due to traffic). I downloaded it this morning & it's excellent.
Not sure how the wave form comes into it though. Could be an analog tremolo I suppose... Though 'short/long' switch kinda gives it away (in name and colour!). Identical knob layout to the Cluster Flux. Edit - some info on the Moog forums - analog delay with tap tempo, spill over and midi sync'd LFO generator. Sex!
Still thinking you're getting away with a smaller pedal board?
-
That's what I thought. Is it a new version of the 104?
-
No idea what it is, but we'll find out in 2 days! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voinzPN2Sgw

Wow! Page 17 already! Got to be one of the busiest posts ever!

With just a couple of answers there, you can see it's a case of try things & see what you like the sound of. Your idea of zingy might be someone else's wool (& vice versa of course). If you can, find some local bands with different rigs so you can hear what they're like in a band setting. I can say IMO Markbass is a very transparent sound (until you play with the filters) & is very much what you put in, you get out. Some basses sound great with it, some don't. There's another bit of advice, take your bass along when trying things. No point in playing something else through it, unless you're planning on getting a new bass too.

I've hired some guff from the video shop. Infact, I've taken 3 films for £10 & gotten a load of rubbish.
-
Meant to say, I do get a few "copied" CD's passed to me by other musicians, but that encourages me to buy more if I like who I get.
-
Regardless what illegal downloading gets called, it's still illegal. There are many bands (famous ones too) that allow you to download their songs for free & GnR encouraged "copying"CDs when they released Use Your Illusions I & II. In an interview & asked why they wasn't releasing it as a double album the response was along the lines of "So someone can buy one & their friend can buy the other & give each other a copy". I don't illegally download, I just listen to things on tinterweb (You choob, Spottyfy, Last Effem, etc).
