1. Some vacuum cleaners have a "volume" dial, some have an adjustable hole (lessens the suction). Other option is to put a tissue roll with a hole in it on the pipe.
2.
Depends on how they have been designed. For example, apparently my Bergantino AE210 cabs together sound exactly like the AE410, but the AE212 was voiced with more bottom end than 2 AE112's. I like lots of bass, but that's not enough of a bonus to make me want to lift 55 lbs.
That's a good point. But does 1 AE210 sound the same as 2 AE210s (but just with less volume)?
3.
All the others; solid body, acoustic, chambered, upright etc are obvious, and I've never seen them misused. Maybe just me? It generally doesnt bother me though, it's a bit like apostrophe nerds isnt it? We know what it should be, but it doesn't keep me awake at night!
Thats shocking! how can you sleep at night?
4.
With a bigger cab or a pair of cabs, you get a different tone than you would with a single one or a smaller one. It's just about what you like. I like having the option of both.......
Unless you're using 2 of the same cab, then you just get more of the same.
5.
I must admit Im realy coming round to this colour! Orange is by no means my favourite but this has a lovely 'not too in your face' thing going on. It reminds me of a matchbox mini I had as a child Consider my withdrawin and have a and a A
You'll get a
6. it's amazing what you can do on photoshop! Only messin, brilliant job!
7. Blendable means you can mix some of your clean, unaffected bass sound with the dirt sound. So if you find you're losing low end, blend is your friend.
8. Walk on the wild side has a memorable "Walking" bassline? I take it NME stands for No Musical Experience?
9. I sanded down my old Vox many yonks ago, gave it a couple of coats of purple celly & never got round to putting a top coat on it. That was 20 odd years ago & it still hasn't flaked off (though I did start partially sanding it off a few months back). As long as you sand the thing so it keys, it should be fine (unless it has an adverse reaction to the current finish, but then you already do ). Mind & post pics.
10. Like other's have said (I think, I didn't read after page 1), it depends on the sound & the song. My old band had a couple of songs that suited a clean bass sound with a pick. I tried them with fingers, slapping using fx & all sorts, but nothing fitted the song. & this is coming from the guy who hates using a pick (OK, I don't hate it, I just prefer fingering ).
11. I've never understood the point of a 4Ω cab unless the amp's min load is 2Ω or the cab is unlikely to need doubled up.
12.
Important bit would be swapping a single piece of wood to a multiple density laminate, which is a fairly significant structural thing.
But what if they was both of the same construction. Say it's my Ibanez bass. It has a 5 piece maple/walnut neck with an ebony board. Now I get an identical neck but with a maple board (They never made them with maple boards, so hypothetical). Would there be any difference in sound?
13. Ahh, I see! Trigger happy with the router?
14. If you took your bass that has a maple board & played an open A, then swapped the neck for a rosewood board & played an open A, would the fretboard make them sound different?
15.
What about chambered body? Would you classify this as semi-hollow? Or, semi-solid ?
Isn't that a semi-acoustic?
16. Is the correct term for an acoustic bass with pre amp & pick up an electro-acoustic bass?
17. You mean to say he's got a hardwired iPhone?!?!
18. The reason I suggested trying the VLE is that it takes the treble off & whilst it won't sort the issue, it can help take away some of the harsh reflections. I've never liked the VPF on it's own, but when used with the VLE, it makes a sound that the band likes & fits nicely (although it is subjective to your band's sound).
19.
Know the feeling I think I have about £200 gathered up towards the black Super P
You've got £198.36 more than me! I think my super P is gonna be yellow.
20. My next thread's gonna be "who's your favourite mod".
21. The problem with MDF is if it get's beer spilled on it, it then soaks it up, expands & weighs even more!
22. Oh here! I do know something after all... 18 pages over 18 months & still no one has given a definite answer that the majority agree on! & if tonewood is important, what about full carbon bass? Does it sound the same as a bass made out of used firewood?
23. I do know that with acoustic guitars, even the same instrument made with the same types of wood can sound different from one another. As for basses, I haven't a scooby. Some say the wood makes a difference, some say it doesn't. If the instrument sounds & looks good, I'll leave the rest to the luthier. Sorry I never got back to your response Luke, Busy at work & then a load of other responses. But my answer is..... No idea!
24.
Some people like fret w****ers... other people like the guys who sit in the pocket and do what is needed for the song. i on the other hand prefer cupcakes i cant stand billy sheehan but i know hes amazing. i hope some of you may understand
