1.
What about chambered body? Would you classify this as semi-hollow? Or, semi-solid ?
Isn't that a semi-acoustic?
2. Is the correct term for an acoustic bass with pre amp & pick up an electro-acoustic bass?
3. You mean to say he's got a hardwired iPhone?!?!
4. Can we call TIM on this?
5. The reason I suggested trying the VLE is that it takes the treble off & whilst it won't sort the issue, it can help take away some of the harsh reflections. I've never liked the VPF on it's own, but when used with the VLE, it makes a sound that the band likes & fits nicely (although it is subjective to your band's sound).
6.
Know the feeling I think I have about £200 gathered up towards the black Super P
You've got £198.36 more than me! I think my super P is gonna be yellow.
7. My next thread's gonna be "who's your favourite mod".
8. The problem with MDF is if it get's beer spilled on it, it then soaks it up, expands & weighs even more!
9. Oh here! I do know something after all... 18 pages over 18 months & still no one has given a definite answer that the majority agree on! & if tonewood is important, what about full carbon bass? Does it sound the same as a bass made out of used firewood?
10. I do know that with acoustic guitars, even the same instrument made with the same types of wood can sound different from one another. As for basses, I haven't a scooby. Some say the wood makes a difference, some say it doesn't. If the instrument sounds & looks good, I'll leave the rest to the luthier. Sorry I never got back to your response Luke, Busy at work & then a load of other responses. But my answer is..... No idea!
11.
Some people like fret w****ers... other people like the guys who sit in the pocket and do what is needed for the song. i on the other hand prefer cupcakes i cant stand billy sheehan but i know hes amazing. i hope some of you may understand

12.
So I want a bass. a bolt on bass. If woods used are negligible, and looks aren't that important...(for this example) I want a great playing and sounding bass.... imagine I'm already able to swap out pickups/preamps what would be the difference between an off the shelf fender jazz bass a custom built jazz bass type or a few bit's of wood from warmoth I've bolted together myself? What does make an awesome bass? or more what does a custom bass builder do, that me and my warmoth parts wouldn't
I can answer this one... The first wouldn't cost you a lot as is made with low cost labour, the second would cost you considerably more as is made by someone who needs to cover their overheads (& they might use better electronics ) and the third would cost even more due to shipping & customs & Warmoth parts actually work out pretty dear! Edited as I misread the 2nd Q.
13.
Just took delivery of mine. It is a low pass filter but it cuts the super low end that you probabaly don't hear, and it's more to help amps run without clipping and cabs run better as it isn't wasting energy on frequencies that don't matter. some amps already have this sort of protection anyway, but some only when things are getting really loud. Havent had a good play yet but I can hear a difference and it is harder to clip the input aswell.# Not sure how to set up my compressor to rid the boom and bring highs in line though. something to do with comp and threshold though I think?
Isn't the Thumpinator a high pass filter set to @ 30hz? Regardless, it certainly seems like a handy bit of kit. Mr Fudge, what cabs are you using?
The tone problem arises in bigger more hard surfaced venues where the tightness of my sound in small pub gigs is lost.
In small venues you'll have a lot of soft furnishings that soak up sound. In the "bigger more hard surfaced venues" those sounds won't be soaked up & reflected back to you, making them twice as prominent. EQ is your friend. In the bigger venues, turn the VLE up a couple of dots & roll the bass back a couple too. I used to not use the filters at gigs but now I use a mix of both VLE & VPF. It's like finding that 6th gear on your new car.
14.
I can see through that easily.
I played one of these naked once.... The guitarist said "I can clearly see your nuts!".
15. Would one of these sound plasticy?
16.
Not sure about that. I don't think the v bass does midi out. I think you need one of the roland guutar synths for that (vg20/vg33/vg55). Someone who knows more may be able to correct me though. Been sorely tempted by a v-bass myself recently. Was impressed by the one i played a few years ago.
I think you might be right there. Just read that the V Bass (not VB 99) doesn't transmit note data through midi. My guitarist/singer has a Roland GI-20 & has a GK3B on a cheap bass & a Godin guitar & uses it to play either a MicroKorg or a Yamaha Synth. Sounds pretty good too & the tracking is as good as an analogue octaver.
17. Sorry chrismuzz, you can't enter yourself unless you're famous (or I'd have my name here too ) & I hope you've got a beer mat under your pint! I should have called it "Your least fave bassist", but me being me...
18.
This discussion of one 1x12 not cutting it have thankfully put me off buying a pair. May as well always use a 2x12.
or a couple of them (or 2 2x10s).
19. Sorry I couldn't give a proper answer, I don't get audio at work.
20. No pics = no pedals!
21. Not sure. I've used teh Boss ME50B & it's a doddle to use (as easy as using pedals, but you can save settings). Sounds Live have the GT10b for £345, but I'd get to a shop & have a play about.
22. Depends how much you want to spend. How about the Boss GT-10B? It's £399 from DV24/7.
23. If I was needing something like that, then I'd look at a good quality multi fx unit so you can just save patches.
