If you have no idea what effects you want, then I'd always suggest getting a multi FX unit. It'll save you a fortune in light up bricks.

My band rarely plays with a drummer & I get to play most of the melodies with the other instruments providing the rhythm section. It's a nice refreshing change.

It'd be fine. The cab should comfortably take up to 250 watts, the amp will put a maximum of 140 out. Think of the cab like having a container with some liquid in it & there's enough room for a further 250ml, now our amp is an object that would take up 140ml of that space when put into it, it's not going to overflow whether you put it in to take up 20ml (turned to a low volume) or all the way in (turned right up). BUT.... Don't get caught up on watts. If it starts to sound bad, turn it down. There's many other factors besides watts. You could safely put your 1001 into your MAG cab, just listen to how it's sounding & if it farts, back off on the bass or turn it down.

Ah, cheers Al. I'm new to electronics of this nature, though I used to install lighting systems & car media/security systems. If I put the 2 superbrights in series, would I get away with no resistor? My initial concern was that on Maplin's website, the specs say they're 2.5v (reverse max 5v, whatever that means). The pedal's on a 9v PSU, so battery life isn't an issue.

If you like your GK gear, why not try out a MB200? They're @ £200 & probably make a decent wee rig. Never quite understood practising with different gear from what you'd play live with though?

Hey Al, could I ask for your assistance? I popped into Maplin today (just in the passing, not planned) & bought a couple of orange LEDs & a couple of resistors. I told him what they was for & that it needed to run on 9v & showed him the schematic that has a 2k-5k 1/4 watt resistor. On checking now I'm home I'm not sure if what he's given me will do the job? What might be a good idea for the Ric is to put the 2 different pickups through different fx. Maybe put the neck p/u through something like an overdrive with all the top rolled off (maybe an EQ or LPF) & have the bridge p/u clean & then mix the 2 channels together & back into the 1 amp? Just an alternative idea for the dual outs.

I used to use one when I was a kid, would use it to jump things on my BMX. Not sure what it's used for on a bass though.

I didn't bother voting as it's up to you. If you like the sound of your 15, then get another. If you don't then go & try some cabs. Mixing cabs (as you probably have found out) can give unpredictable results, sometimes good & sometimes not so good.

Out of all Muse's albums, the only ones on my iPod are Absolution, Origins of Symmetry & Black Holes. I'd suggest either Absolution or OOS as a starter.

High gain distortion should do what you want. My distortion is a high gain & I never have it above 1(out of 10) as it's too much for my folk band. On that recording I had it at 1. You could probably pick up a distortion pedal for peanuts.

Managed to get a quick recording just now using a field mic plugged into iMac as I haven't got a lead to connect to iMac just now, so excuse the hiss, crackle & lack of lower frequencies. But it gives you an idea. The basic sound is distortion, chorus & low pass filter (with an expression pedal) & then I add the octaver with 50% clean & 100% -1 octave. This should give you an idea of what this combination of effects can sound like & you could probably get very similar with a decent multi fx unit. I'm actually splitting things in the Bass Murf & only have distortion, chorus & LPF on the higher frequencies (Probably from @ 200 Hz) & using a bit of extra drive from the Murf on everything. The octaver is before everything & I did a couple of runs to show you the tracking issues (it tracks everything fine, right down to my messy mistakes ). I think I'll give it a go. Do you have resistors on each LED?

With my right ear I can hear all to 15k ok. 16 &17k are barely there (I hear the click at the start). With my left ear I can only hear 10k. None of the other's are audible, not even the 8k.
