1. I'll 2nd the Markbass combo. Got the 2x10 & I think it even might be overkill for your situation. Would be at the top of your budget though 2nd hand. Get yourself to a shoppe & try some stuff out.
2. I tried putting the dirt after the filter & in a band situation I found it way to subtle to be noticed. But just because it doesn't suit me, doesn't mean it wont suit you. Experimentation is 1/2 the fun of building a board.
3. Ahh! Just noticed you're in Aberdeenshire! Dundee might be your nearest?
4. If weight is your concern, then a Markbass amp is the way to go. LMII/III can go in a carry pouch on a gig bag, making your bass amp & cab all manageable for 1 carry on your own (leaving your drummer free to carry the pedalboard). Go to your nearest decent bass gear stockist & try some amps out.
5. I can vouch for the Markbass 2x10 combo if it lightness & simplicity that you're after. However, what I'd consider is a Barefaced cab & either keep your head or trade it for something lighter.
6. I'd go TU2 > OC3 > ODB1 > SYB3 > CEB3 > CryBaby > Flanger as a starting point & then play about & see what makes the sounds "You" want.
7. I started on key type thingys too! When I was 4 (well 2 weeks away from being 5, as it was Xmas), I got one of those mouth keyboard things & played it constantly. My folks got me a Bontempi organ the following year & over the early years I had a few different keyboards & started getting into synths. When I was 12, I went to a local music shop to buy a monosynth (Jem SX1000) & my brother bought an acoustic guitar (just a cheapo no name, but this was my step into stringy thingies). After a couple of months he decided the guitar wasn't for him & gave it to me. I found I mainly played basslines on it, though I did learn to play chords fairly quickly on it. After a couple of years (aged 14) I decided to buy myself a bass to see if I liked it. I got a Vox Standard (which I still have, though it's in bits), that was 1985! After much playing of synths I kept going back to the bass, so in 1990 I bought my Ibanez SR1000 & also got an Ibanez Artist guitar from a friend. & that's me. I now have no synths (for the past 15 or so years) & after much chopping & changing, I still have the same bass, but the guitar is now a Freshman CE300 Electro Acoustic.
8.
tc electronic bg500 2x10 blows any combo on the market away my mate has an eden combo great but not as deep and loud as a bg500 tried a markbass 2x10 combo and it couldnt touch the tc there is a 2x10 and a 15 model check ebay out theres one for sale on here for 350 its a tc bg500
I hear a lot of good things about TCE (except the "what's a watt" issue). I'm gonna have to try some of their stuff at some point!
9. Yeah, all three for me too. Although there's only a couple of songs they get to sing along to (all originals usually) & not much dancing to be had, but our audience is more of listeners than party goers. Although a couple of the folky dubstep numbers get folk up dancing! Got a gig in Dundee on the 21st if anyone's interested?
10. It depends on your budget & if you wanna go 2nd hand. 4 years ago I tried countless combos & amp/cabs & the best sub £1k rig I found for my needs was the Markbass 2x10 combo. You can get them s/h for @ £600. Very loud combo for a 2x10.
11. I was looking at them when the 1st batch came out, but the QC issues them was pretty bad. Marshall are known for making guitar rigs, but not so much for bass (not that they've not tried, just that the bassist has a lot of good options). From the reports on here over the past few years from the chaps above & a few others on here, they have a good sound for the money but you'll need a flatbed with a hiab for transporting the thing!
12. Have a look at the Ibanez Soundgear range. My dusty end is shiny & I actually use the 24th fret on the G in a couple of songs with no trouble getting all the way up there. But again, there might be something that will suit your style better, so get a good play about.
13. Another option would be a decent 2x10 if a 2x12 is too big for you. I used a 2x10 in a loud rock band for a good couple of years (still use the 2x10 but not the rock band).
14. Our first gig of 2012 is at the Doghouse in Dundee. We're doing a 25 minute acoustic set on 21st of January for FREE! Any BCers wanting to come along are more than welcome. Time is to be confirmed.
15. I had a 4x10 (tonne) TE combo for a short while @ 4-5 years ago. Crock of toley! Does punchy mean "it's got plenty of mid, but if you try & add any bass it'll fart on every note"? Yes, it cuts through the mix, but it doesn't add any depth to the mix. I play bass because I like BASS.
16. +1 to buying online. I got my TI flats from Stringbusters & was a quicker delivery than what it would have been had I tried to get parked in town, walk to the local music shop & then order them in (as they're not stocked). And probably a lot cheaper too!
17.
We have a drummer and he's acoustic too.
Now that's a good point. We did an "acoustic" session at a beer festival & the drummer used his electronic kit.
18. unless it's a double bass, then acoustic isn't loud enough without being plugged in & then where's the point? it's an electric. Go for a fretless & that'll fit in with the "acoustic" image. My current band is classed as an "acoustic" band. The singer plays an electro acoustic guitar (plugged in), the other musician plays either mandolin or ukulele (both plugged in) & I play electric bass through a few fx (plugged in). When we add our drummer we're no longer acoustic, so the guitarist brings out the synth guitar.
19.
At which point, everybody reading this topic promptly looks at the top r/h corner of their screen.
I didn't until I read this & then scrolled up!
20. Why not replace the strap button on the body with a floor pin & play it upright?

ohms?

Sounds like your guitarist is the one who needs the new rig if he's that loud? I'd try fiddling about with your EQ if you can't be heard. It depends on what sort of music you play & what sound you're after.
