1. I just got a 4' length of Auralex Platfoam from Studiospares & chopped it in half. Was gonna glue them onto a bit of board & carpet the top, but thought I'd just slide them under the cab at this coming gig & see how it is. It's a huge wooden box of a stage.
2.
I've found a tab for it now too race ya to the finish! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! You havn't come across a powertab or guitarpro version though have you?
I haven't found a powertab one as yet. There's a Songsster version, but it's in G & the root is on the 3rd fret of the E string.
3. I haven't got any of this current band. However, me, the singer/guitarist & the drummer are from a previous band called Frigorifico & we still do a good few of the same songs (Me & the Singer do all the writing). http://www.myspace.com/frigorific We're doing Minor Key Blues & Already There from that list. BigRoom is a little different from what it is on MySpace & we're not doing any of the songs that's on here... http://www.myspace.com/bigroomgb I'll get some recordings of this gig if I can. Edited to put a better link up (slightly better mixes).
4. I usually sound like I've never touched a bass before when I try one in a shop. I play an open note & then twiddle the knobs to see what they do. Then I just mess about playing notes & trying to get fret buzz or anything else that I don't want, then the assistant comes over & takes it off me.
5. Cheers 51, you made me late for work I youtubed "Bach cello suite 1 bass" & found this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7uyk9NANmY Spent the rest of the morning learning the 1st part of it. Gonna see if I can learn the full thing for Saturday's gig.
6. I like to play just a couple of long notes & slowly open the LPF as everything on the shelves rattle about Then it's maybe a little "Fur Elise" or some "Phat Planet" or "Angel" (Massive Attack). Just to make them go Ooh! I like that.
7. Quietest way to leave your band is by steering clear of the drumkit! If you enjoy your music I wouldn't leave. I'd have a word with your long term friends in the band & each of you say to the chap about his negativity. See if that changes him. If it doesn't, then you & one or 2 of the other members could start a "side project" & then leave the current band to focus more on it. Then at a slightly later date incorporate some other musicians, such as previous band members from a former band.
8. Put a fresh battery in your bass & take a spare. Make sure all your gear is sound & take a couple of spare leads & strings. If you have a spare bass, then great. I've never needed a backup bass in 20 odd years, but it's reassuring if there's one there. Print off a couple of copies of your setlist. Put one or two at the front of the stage (I usually have one either side of the singer) & give the drummer one (a setlist that is). Now go & enjoy yourself & all the best with it.
9. I've used my Markbass combo many times with my electro acoustic plugged into it. Sounds really good too & is probably the only time I have the treble on flat (usually back it off a bit for bass).
10. I completely missed that, despite reading through your add & thinking "how would I slip it past the wife". I think I need glasses! Sounds like a good price to me.
11. I've never been to your shop, but I did buy my MB combo from you when I first joined BC. Thanks for an excellent service when buying it & for a superb combo & all the best for what the future holds for you.
12.
I had the same problem with MIA and MIM, which to my mind meant 'missing in action' and 'metal injection moulded'....very educational place this basschat
& now you know it means Mexicans In America & Mexicans In Mexico.
13. & a boolzi boolzi bap.... zidi bap.
14. I was having a wee browse on the Choob, looking for different bass related stuff & typed in "Live drum & bass bassist" & got this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xSCKkJOSlM Well it's not what I expected!
15. The send/return is handy for any rack fx that you might have (usually in the same case as your head). Like Liam says, it is usually a blend of dry & FX. Some amps (such as Markbass) have a jumper/switch to chose between blended or wet (all FX & no dry signal).
16. Well you do get a month with a BF before you have to commit.
17. PANIC!!!!!!! A 3x10?! You'd barely be heard in a jazz gig with only an acoustic guitar to compete with! What you need is 2 8x10s and 2 2x15s under them with a couple of 10k amps to run them if you're gonna play stuff like GnR with no PA support! Just messin with ya. I've done many gigs with a 2x10 & no PA along with 2 loud guitarists & a heavy hitting drummer & had no trouble whatsoever being heard. Try it at rehearsal, you might just get a surprise.
18. Into the input socket. Just as you would put you bass into it without any fx.
19. Just over a week to go!
20.
I spoke to mine specifically (barclays) the only issue for 'out of the house items' is if I was using them for work. My camera is therefore insured separately whilst I now get paid for jam nights, with the same people, with a predetermined 'jam' list, and a PA that happened to be made from the exact parts each jam member brought along.
If you want your camera covered for business use with Barclays, they can now do it (if your policy # starts with MHO or renewed after May 4th 2011). All they do is specify it & add a clause.
21. If you're covering your gear on your Home Insurance. 1: It falls under Personal Belongings/Possesions. 2: Quite often it will only cover about £1-2k if stolen from a vehicle & quite often will only cover in a vehicle if the vehicle is locked & the items are in a concealed boot (IIRC Barclays is £1500). 3: check if it covers whilst you're gigging. Some will cover so long as you don't get paid, some you need to state business use & specify your gear & others won't cover you at all. 4: Making a claim WILL put your policy up next renewal (or if your renewal is close to the claim date, it could be anytime within 10 months) & there's usually an excess to pay. The good thing is, it's usually relatively cheap to cover gear on home insurance.
