Stuff the NME - What are Basschat's Favourite (not best) basslines?
xgsjx replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
I'm surprised no one's said Hysteria! A couple of my faves to play (off the top of my head) are: Brown Paper Bag - Roni Size Army Of Me - Bjork Ramble On - Led Zeppelin Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder Peace Sells - Megadeth The Waking - Kurt Elling New Born - Muse New Years Day - U2 Can't think of any others as I mainly play originals & spend most of my time working on them. Although I'm working on a couple of unusual covers that don't have particularly great to play basslines (Satisfaction - The Stones & Crazy - Gnarles Barkley, but we don't cover songs to sound like the originals). Edit - Gotta add some U2! -
This might be of interest... Click this dot .

If they don't know what their cabs specs are, who does?
Personally I think a reheasal room is a harder space to 'fill' than a pub or stage, its to do with the acoustics, the massive SPLs due to the tiuny room size, the fact that everyone is on top of each other (so you end up way off axis to your cab) etc etc etc
Not sure if you're having this issue with your current rig at rehearsal, but it's one reason why vertical arrays (such as a 2x10 or two) are a better option than something like a 4x10. So when you are off axis, you still get a decent volume. I dare say you probably know this, but it might come in useful for those that don't.
Not a bad shout - Delbertnot - you should listen to it, it's good. My choice would definitely be 'I Wish' by Stevie Wonder...........or 'The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines' by Joni Mitchell - live version........or 'Nice n Sleazy' or 'Tom Sawyer' or ....well it depends on my mood I suppose!
I Wish is a good bassline, but I much prefer Masterblaster or Sir Duke. I'm kinda surprised that there's no Jamiroquai or Led Zeppelin on that list either as most of their songs have got stonking basslines. I'd even put a U2 song in my top 10 (No, not With Or Without You!).

Cheers man It was a pleasure making those tracks, just with I'd had a little more time to make more (September flew past!). G

Just took delivery of a Boss OC-3 from Shep & can truly say he's a gent to do business with, giving me updates & letting me know when he posted it. The pedal was well wrapped & secure & sent recorded. I'd happily do business again with Shep. Buy with confidence. Thanks again.

Most of that "Top 10" wouldn't make my top 10.

I agree with Dave, unless you're wanting an iPhone, iPad or iPod then something like the Pandora may suit you better.

There's a BFM Omni 15 Tallboy for sale on here. Comes within your budget & would probably knock spots off anything else in that price bracket. Here it is.

Something like iRig would allow you to do this. Can be an iPod Touch or an iPhone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J2Jp2nhTdM&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLAE7BD36A231CC649

iPhone? There's many apps for it that have stonking sounds. if you don't need midi, then could be what you need.

The only thing that I know of that's similar to a fretless 5 SR is the GWB basses. The GWB35 is @ £600 new... & the GWB1005 comes in at @ £3750 I'd love to get my hands on one.
BALLS! No really, it's 'Balls'.
Whereas I'd like to agree, I cannot My Markbass has loads more than the Trace Elliot 4x10 combo or the HH, Wem or Carlsberg things, or any of the other heavy solid state blocks that I've used.
-
Nice bass, nice playing. My only criticism is that your sound has no bass! Is it on the bridge pickup? Too clangy for my liking. But yeah! Nice playing. W&T make some lovely basses.
-
Yup. Play about until your heart's content & then you'll change the order again within a month! Just now I'm running Fuzz > Flangy EQ (Bass Murf) > Filter (Wah) > Chorus. Every now & again I juggle things about & then revert back to this again. More pedals = More fun I'd stick the [s]Tuna in a sandwich[/s] tuner at the start.

After a bit of time reading things on here, you'll come to realise that "watts" accounts for a small percentage of what the actual perceived volume is. The TC RH450 is a prime example. They marketed it as a 450w head, but it's actually 236w. The problem with trying to sell it to the majority of bassists whom think wattage is the "be all" of how loud a thing is would be that they'd most likely think it only goes 1/2 as loud as something like a Markbass LMII due to it having @ 1/2 the wattage. The RH 450 is (according to owners on here) every bit as loud as the LMII. Just like Budget Surround Sound manufacturers claiming their system is "19000 watts of pure power" or some drivel.
-
I've never played a SR300, but have you tried raising the pickups up some to see if that improves things?
-
Interestingly,a friend of mine has had two LMII amps fail on him within a month of each other.
Aye, but he was using them as Ramps instead of Amps!

Are you going through a PA? If your bass isn't going through the PA then I'd look at vertical arrays such as 1 or 2 15"s or 1 or 2 2x10"s or 12"s stacked like in Mr Foxen's pic... Maybe not as tall a rig as that, but you'll get a good even dispersion to your audience. A standard 4x10 doesn't have a very wide dispersion (loud directly in front & volume fades as you move to the left or right).

I've has quite a lot of Peavey PA gear, but never had any bass gear (my bro still swears by Peavey cabs for PA). I think there's nowt wrong with the badge & I'd happily have a peavey sub sat underneath my MarkBass (with a Black Widow driver ). More reliable than an Ampeg!
Unless you're like me and have no ar*se. I'm a great big fatty but there's no meat on my buttocks, so nothing to hang trousers on. I have to have my belt so tight that I look like a bag of sh*te tied in the middle. Mind you, it does mean that my overhang protects my basses from my buckles (which I collect so have some interestingly shaped ones). I don't mind wearing braces when I'm in my outdoors/fishing gear, but otherwise I just feel like a prat in them.
Top tip - Get braces & play punk or mod.
Another (sorry) serious one... photograph all your gear, write down the descriptions and all the serial numbers and put it all somewhere safe (www.dropbox.com or a fridge - next best thing to a firesafe). You never know!
I always tell folk to take pics of their gear (for insurance) & pop the pics on a private Flickr or similar.

troy sanders effects? anyone have any idea what he has?
xgsjx replied to 0175westwood29's topic in Effects
I found this, if it's helpful: http://www.uberproau...r-and-equipment
No wonder he's got a massive sound. Octaver & a POG, Moog delay & Taurus pedals! Those alone would make a massive sound without any of the other things he has (including using a bass)! -
You could move the tuner & octave over & then squeeze a Moog in there! MF101 & an expression pedal on the floor maybe?
