1. I've had Reaper on my mac for @ 2 years now & it's still on "evaluation" mode. I'll get the license one day as it's great, but at present I only use it about every 5-6 months (I need to get away from opening Garageband up 1st). Is it only the newer downloads that have the 30 day trial?

Moog Pedals...

That's a shame. CV to midi converter? For the cables, Could you not make cables that come from the 201 to be TS at the 201s end & TRS at the other (just connecting to T & S, leaving R empty)? Would that not then allow you to use TRS from MF to MF (if needed)? I made my TRS cable go from TS to TR so I could take it from the 101 & into the input of the 105s step (so each new note played a step), but I changed it back as I use it more just now going either back into the 101 or into the Rate on the 105.

Moog Pedals...

Here's an interesting thought for you. If you take a TRS from the Env out CV of the 101 & into the 201, can it then be manipulated to do something else, likes of trigger a faster LFO to the cutoff & as the note signal weakens, the LFO slows (maybe from semi-quavers to quavers)?

You can do something like that by taking a TRS from the 101s env out CV & back into it's cutoff CV.
5. If you can afford 2 2x10s or 2x12s, then it's a better option IMO. More flexible & better dispersion. But, if an 8x10 is what you want, then go for it. You can always flog it & get the 2 cab option later.

Moog Pedals...

A couple of exp pedals would certainly get you started & get you wondering what else you can plug into CV, but from what I've heard (from listening to shep's stuff & Nerve & Maloopa) I'd say the MP-201 would be a valuable part of getting that sound. BTW, you can't take a CV out from the Bass Murf (not sure it's the same with the Midi Murf), it only has CV in. You have to use one of the patterns to make a vibrato to get that wobble. It is a fun bit of kit though!
7. I think a 6/8x10 would only be louder than 2 vertical 2x10/12s to those standing directly in front of it. The further left or right you go, the quieter it'll be whereas the 2 cab option has a better dispersion & should be louder to those standing off axis than the fridge.
8. Might be proof at last that watts doesn't = volume? The quote "300 watts minimum" is a bit like surround sound systems that say "25000 watts", it's nonsense. It's down to how efficient your cabs are & how good your amp is at running them.
9. Isn't Glenrothes the home of the Roundabout? If any of you lot are gigging over Perth way, let me know & I'll try & get along. Oh, & welcome to BC.

Moog Pedals...

I want an MP-201 (will get one one day), but if you haven't the funds for one, then you definitely need to get an expression pedal of some sort (I use a Moog EP-2 & hopefully getting another until I can afford the MP-201).

Moog Pedals...

The moog is based on the LPF out of the Minimoog model D & has controls for cutoff (that is the correct term for it), resonance, amount (for the envelope follower), mix & drive. All apart from drive can be controled via CV (expression pedals or other moogers). It also has 2 switches. One for envelope response fast/slow & one for 2 pole/4 pole. It also has a CV out from the envelope follower which can be used to control any of it's CV ins or any other moogs.

Moog Pedals...

The 101 would probably be the best 1st purchase. The 105 can run stereo, so you can route the 2 channels on different frequencies & use different effects on them & then blend them back together with a small mixer of some sort or put the 2 signals to 2 seperate amps or rigs.

Moog Pedals...

Funny enough, I have a moog MF-101 AND a Moog MF-105B (the M wasn't out when I got it). Here's a review of them... Moogerfooger review The song "Puzzles" has good use of them on all parts. & here's a long video of me messing about...
14. So far I've found that my 2x10 covers everything that I've needed it to & bigger venues do have decent PA, so it get's used as a monitor.
15.
Absolutely right. If you're playing a small gig it will normally only have a vocal PA and a large one ill have a full PA. I use the same gear regardless of venue and its never let me down, its just not trendy.
Same here. Most of our gigs have a PA (usually our own & without any subs) for the band which I'll DI from my amp into, but I tend to roll off most of the bass & let my gear do the work.
16. But wouldn't it be wiser to buy more efficient 2x10 cabs than inefficient 4x10s? It comes down to how much air you can move. Yes, the more speakers you have the more air you can move, but if those speakers are not very good at moving air & next to 0 effort has gone into the acoustic design of the cab, it's not just about the amount of drivers. A cab that has decent drivers & well designed cab to house them in but with 1/2 the amount of drivers is probably going to be a lot louder & sound a lot better.
17. If it's in a verse, I'll just stop playing & clap along & get the audience going until the chorus comes back in (&hopefully have remembered what I'm supposed to play). Though that doesn't seem to work too well on ballads P.S. The is caused by putting a "B" & a ")" next to each other with no spaces. You'd be better replacing the ) with a , or a }
18. What's he (the Funk) done? Last I heard is that he'd found a new woman & couldn't spend much time on here.
19. Have you tried emailing Ashdown?
20. You're on the money there Nige, but some folk need to go through a few basses to find one that is comfortable (how many is another debate). I'm one of the lucky ones who's very happy with the same bass I bought 20+ years ago, though I'm gassing for a fretless 5 (or 6er) & some more fx even though my band doesn't currently require them!
21. Are you planning on having a 10x10 stack?
22. That is a valid reason to going for 4 ohm cabs, but not everyone has a power amp or 2 separate heads. Question for you. If using the LMII with 1 cab runs at 500w, does running 2 with your parallel box have any volume increase? It's a genuine Q as I've never tried it & I'm assuming (from doing some of the maths) that you'll have @ 175w going to each cab. I work out that if a 4ohm cab gives a 3db increase over the 8, & 2 8ohm cabs in series gives a 6db increase due to more drivers moving more air, then in theory (without thinking too hard) you probably dont have a big increase if any?
23.
So are Markbass. Stating '40hz - 20khz' is pretty meaningless without knowing how many dB that's accurate to. Though they already know that.
Very true. But my point is that it has nothing to do with cone diameter & more to do with the cab & how much air is being moved.
24. The Markbass standard 2x10 & 1x15 both have the same frequency range - 40hz - 20khz, so this kinda shows that Marshall are just going for sales.
