1. I suppose you could get a 2nd hand Skoda for @ £1200?

An amp that won't handle 4 ohm? That's a bit restrictive. Can you not return the amp or cab & get either an amp with 4 ohm min or an 8 ohm cab?
3. I'd go with your "Bitsa" plan, treat you & the Mrs to a weekend away & pop the rest in the bank (or buy some fx pedals).
4. Congrats Dan Looking forward to hearing some of your Warwick through it. BTW, what's that square piece between the DI & the power switch? From the pic it looks like a flip out car ashtray.
5.
Understandable... but I would think you could get a MB 102 combo for £550-600 on here.
You possibly could. They usually go @ £650 mark but there might be one or two in the for sales that would haggle.
6. Seeing Bjork in Vegas was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense is my favourite recorded live performance.
7. I've got a box of 10 of these 9 volt jobbies. £7.40 a box & they're the equivalent of a Duracell Ultra. (link nicked from the rechargable battery thread)
8. I think Long scale is what you would need for your Ibby. Is it a 34" scale?
9. It purely depends on what kind of sound you're after. If you want bright & zingy, then rounds are the way to go. After spending years of using rounds I took the plunge on a set of TI Jazz flatwounds & wish I would have done decades ago. My bass sounds more like I want it to & apparently flats last for years.
10. Hopefully a good move. I like GK gear & the RB700 combo was one of the main contenders on my list (as was it in seperates). Certainly a very light 2x10 combo. You'll need to report back in a month after it's had a bit of a run through.
11.
World's leading caber tossers? A lot world class comedy in Scotland? And a couple of great saxophonists in Tommy Smith and Bobby Wellins. Great whisky distilliries?

The blokes get to wear Tartan skirts without being called a tranny, I think you are doing ok. Garry
A world class alcoholic tosser in a skirt who blows his own trumpet & takes the mick. That's a rather stereotypical view of a Scotsman to take, is it not?
12.
There is no in-bred relationship between ones country of origin and ones ability to play in a certain way. What there is is an increased probability, a bigger pool to draw from. More people per capita play football in Brazil than in, say, Wales = more Brazillian footbaal players = higher probability that there are going to be more 'great' Brazillian football players. More West Indians play cricket = more West Indian cricketers = better standard of cricketer in the West Indies. More US jazz musicians = Americans are going to be better jazz musicians. More Indian sitar players = the best sitar players are likely to be Indian. Bigger samba scene in Brazil = best samba players are from there. Same with Cuban congueros, Indian tabla players, Aborinial didgeridoo players and Argentinain accordian players. There is a reason why there is always an overrepresemtation of medals from the US, Russia and China iin the Olympics. There are always more kids to choose from who play the Sports in question. Its why the best skiers tend to be from countries where it snows etc.
So where does that leave us Scots? Best shinty players? Good with things that involve rain?
13. If you're going 2nd hand, then there's a few Ibbys on the first for sale page on here. Both these are excellent value for money... SR-1206 SR-800 (a Japanese one!)
14. I think if it's refinished, it's no longer original (just like the stripped condition it's in) so therefore colour would have no effect on price. I'd go for a non Fender colour. Maybe British Racing Green with a Mustard pick guard?
15. It might go the opposite way around? Whereas Germany & Brazil have the best footballers, they might produce the fewest amount of great bassists, England being better, then Scotland better again & the most being from America & India (& other countries that aren't known for any good footballers). It makes sense to me. I'd rather play bass than kick a bag of wind around. Edited just to say, I bet America's got better footballers than Scotland? Moves Scotland up in the bass rankings!
16. I got my board from the Flightcase Warehouse. It's basically a decent flightcase with the shallow side to the bottom & a piece of ply painted black & some velcro supplied with it. I got some heavy duty velcro from hobbycraft, popped a couple of smallish feet on the top edge of the "board" so it leans & I can hide wires under it, then I got a couple of wooden kitchen door handles & put one either side of the board (they match the moog ends). As for pedals, do you know what fx do what? That's not meant to be a cheeky Q, just that if you don't then I would suggest getting a multi FX to play about with & see what fx you like, then you can decide if two distortions are needed & if you're gonna use a compressor. If you do know what fx do what, then the Ashdown Hyperdrive & the MXR Blowtorch are both worth a look as far as O\Ds go. Compressors, I used an EHX White Finger for a couple of tracks in the studio & thought it sounded decent enough but not something I would use live. Couldn't advise on a tuner, I use PolyTune on the iphone before a gig & any tune ups are done by ear.
17. I've never tried (or heard) the 121, but I dare say from other reports it'll see you proud. There's always the option to add the 12" cab if you really needed it & get the singer to carry it
18. Use this (I nicked it from the Bassclef YTS thread) if you need help knowing the names of the notes on the fretboard... http://www.studybass.com/tools/bass-clef-notes/ As for score, the spaces between the lines from bottom to top is ACE G (that's me that is ). After that, it's practice.
19. Would your back extend to a CMD 102p? I find it can cover everything I need (so far anyway).
20.
I guess that is 'getting to the bottom of it'...
Oh! That's low
21. Oops, I thought it was a swap I started playing bass when I was not much older than him. My first bass was a Vox Standard & they weigh about the same as an 8x10. I wouldn't restrict it to lightweight basses (they're really for us oldies with bad backs ) as there's many good starter instruments that although not lightweight, will be much lighter than my Vox. Kids are a lot stronger than you're giving them credit for Have a look at Ibanez. Fairly light basses & excellent value for money.
22. I think that would be holding down a groove. if you can play all the Jaco solos on your own but have no sense of timing when the band are playing, then I think that's classed as no good.
23. I mainly use my fingers, but we have a few songs where the more aggressive sound from a pick is required. So I'll use whatever I need to get the job done as long as it sounds right in the mix.
24.
if you ever get the chance... play a Sukop... can do anything...
I had a wee look at their website. No wonder you said "If you EVER get the chance", the only way I'd get to try one is to either track down an owner such as yourself or buy one! None of the dealers on their website have any. On that note, Bass Northwest. For them to say they're the largest "Bass only" store in the world, they certainly have the crapest website in the world!
For me it has, finally realized that passive four strings Fenders are for me after going through numerous basses...I've narrowed i down to my 5 string active status.
25. That's a bit pointless! Though if the 515 is a min 4Ω load, you could use 2 8Ω cabs (but isn't that the point of adding an ext cab?).
