1. I've used the aux in on my ipod dock & also a set of satellite & sub PC speakers (sometimes via the mac, sometimes direct). Both work reasonably well at low volumes & fine if you're just practising playing & not doing much with fx. I do have a wee Vox Venue 30 bass combo handy(which is heavier than my MB combo!).
2. Sorry DC2009, I'd also have to disagree. If you're having trouble with "Digging in" then you need to turn your amp up & play with a lighter touch. How hard you're playing with the right hand is just as important as what frets you're holding with the left IMO. I'm not dissing compressors as some folk like what they do to your sound (I do too sometimes), but I wouldn't use one to try & rectify poor technique.
3.
Why not ? I bet the total current drain with a small PA and no lights is under 5A. But you could use multiple extension leads from a 4 way thats powered via the trip if your worried. Does depend on the capacity and the length of the cable though.
It probably would be Ok, but adding things does cause a higher resistance & if it's someone who doesn't know much about electricity other than it makes things work, then it's best to run on the safe side. They might not notice a long cable starting to overheat & becoming a hazard. Just a quick note to the OP, don't plug multi sockets or 2/3 way adaptors into one another.
4.
Why am I only finding this out now!? Does obbm do nuclear electricity? Should I rewire my cabs with it?
Why do you think he uses Neutrik jacks?
5. A few years ago I thought I wanted a compressor & was almost set on getting a Black Finger I tried a few different ones & decided all it did was take away the dynamics from my playing & raised the noise floor (so if there was a small feint buzz before, it would be annoying with the compressor). I do have a fairly consistent level whenever I play something & don't really suffer much from peaks & troughs & got disappointed that I wasn't going to need a compressor. I'd go with spending the money on some good lessons.
6.
Run EVERYTHING FROM THE SAME TRIP, a plug top type like you use for a lawnmower will be fine.
That depends on how much load you're using. I wouldn't run 3 amps & a PA from one mains run from the house.
7. From the sound of what BottomEndian has said, the moog MF-101 with an expression pedal would be the same. It's a Low Pass Filter (from the Minimoog) & you can use exp pedals to control the cut off, resonance, amount (for the envelope follower) & mix (you could use 4 pedals on this if you wanted). Myself, Shep (Panterairsoft) & a few other BCers use these. There's a vid of me using one in the effectys reviews section as well as some audio clips.
8. Is that your band? Catchy little number. Didn't get time to hear the whole song, but I'll check out the other vids soon.
9. I use my acoustic guitar into my markbass combo all the time & sounds faithful to what I put into it.
10. Phil talks good sense here. Another thing to take into account is Xmax (not to be mixed up with Xmas) which relates to this bit...
You play bass however and the lower the note the further the cone has to travel to reproduce it. there's examples out there of speakers that only have a couple of mm movement before the coil starts to move out of the magnet. For bottom E this means that they can only handle a few watts. Under these conditions your 300W speaker might be only a 30W speaker
11. If you want your Hofner to sound bright & zingy then go for rounds. I prefer my bass to sound bassy so have TI flats on it.

New Moogerfooger

More GAS & no money That might not be an LFO & maybe a VCO (more likely to be LFO tho).
13. +1 to those above. Get yourself a small combo. There's many that are perfect for gigging & the days of having to humph a huge heavy stack around are no more (some folk still do, but I think that is by choice/funds). Have a look at some kit from Genz Benz, Gallien Krueger, Mark Bass, T C Electronic & some of the "lightweight gear" topics on here.
14. I'd say the Markbass & you can put a tube pre pedal in your line if needed.
15. Are you in a band? If not, join one (or start your own). Don't ignore the advice about getting lessons as they will help you big time. Being in a band will improve your skills, especially an originals band. I've looked at things I could play a few years apart & there's a huge difference. Being able to read the rest of the band when having a jam is a skill that can't be taught. Also like a few have said, when we don't see change we think we're not learning. A few months back I started learning to double thumb & was rubbish, now without really noticing I'm much better at it (still no Vic) & when I first saw double thumbing & tried a little & thought to myself "I wish I could play like that"! I still can't, but I'm getting there one day at a time.
16. He might turn up late for soundchecks but at least he'll rehearse & work hard.
17. I was watching some of their videos a few mumphs back & the Hot Hand sensor thingybob looks pretty cool. If I hadn't bought the moog it would be a possible contender for a space on my board.
18.
The first part... very little difference (iirc the LMII puts out 300w @ 8ohms). The second part... x2 8ohm cabs with hypothetically double the number of drivers as a single 4ohm cab (I am assuming here that you aren't talking about comparisons between say a 4x10 4 ohm cab and a pair of 1x10 cabs or something equally mismatched) will certainly move more air and would be my preferred option. However, if you are talking about comparisons between say a single 2x12 4 ohm cab and a pair of 1x12's @ a combined ohmage of 4 ohms then I wouldn't say there'd be much difference ESPECIALLY if you are comparing cabs from the same manufacturer (Aggie DB212 v Aggie DB112 x2).
It is @ 300w - 8Ω. My 2nd part was all cabs being identicle specs bar ohmage (wasn't intended to be a question tho ).
19. Here's a Q... If you a LM250 & an LMII & you put a 2x10 4Ω cab on the LM250 & the same make & model of cab, but 8Ω on the LMII, would there be any noticeable differences (I know the LMII puts out more than 250w @ 8Ω, but is it gonna make a noticeable difference)? I'm guessing yes as the LMII will still have that little more. So best idea would be to sell the hypothetical 4Ω cab & get another identical 8Ω one so more air can be moved!
20. I started off a keys player when I was a kid. My folks bought me a bontempi organ when I was 5 & every Christmas after that I got a better keyboard until I started getting into synths (old Korgs & such gubbins). When I was 12 me, my dad & my wee bro went to a music shop for me to buy a synth. He also came out with a cheap acoustic guitar which he played about with for about a week & then gave me it. I played basslines on it & then decided to talk my best friend into taking up guitar & I bought a bass about 1 1/2 years later & have never looked back. I could have easily played the basslines on a synth, but for me there's something more satisfying about playing bass. I learned how to play guitar properly too
21.
Wow, that after looks the dogs.

if I understand this turn of phrase correctly, then +1
Thanks guys. I actually got a surprise at the wood when I stripped it. I was 1/2 expecting to be painting the bass (or at least covering it in silver leaf). My original trade is a signwriter & my bro & dad still are, so no probs with laquering etc. Looking forward to giving it a wax. I just so happen to have a bag of bees wax pellets.
22. When I was looking for what sort of oil to use on wood when refinishing my bass I found quite a few articles advising not to use olive oil as it will rot the wood eventually (something about it not being a preserving oil) & also not to use neat food oils such as lemon oil on fretboards. I can't say whether or not they are right tho, so decided to go with Danish oil. I rubbed my fretboard back & gave it a couple of coats of Danish oil. Has a dull sheen to it which I like.
23. I do believe he has played with quite a lot of mainstream known artists. Anyway, church IS a proper music venue
24. I've got an SR1000 as well! Bought it as a rock bass way back in 1990 & has been my main bass ever since. My current band is a 3-5 piece that do a mix of blues, folk, funk, jazz & anything else that doesn't fit & I also play bass occasionally at church (if I'm not on guitar duty). I've since stripped it down to the wood & oiled it & took it away from the "Rock" image. Here's a before... & here's the after... Still needs a waxing & a better pic than a phone one. Link to the process. Sound wise, I can get anything from mid focused sounds that cut thru to deep dubby bassy sounds (I've put flatwounds on to get more synth like tones). Unfortunately I've no idea how the newer ones are with the soapbar p/ups but if they're 1/2 as flexible as this, then you wont be disappointed.
