TB is off line. Was that thread that stupid?

For outdoor stuff, I've always been happy with the sound of Peavey HiSys or EV cabs. For indoors, I recently heard a DAS pa system & sounded very nice. But, I would have thought the best bang for buck would be to build some BFM tops & subs?

Instead of wasting your money, could I point you here? Take a look around & you'll get a much better rig for the same money.

If you can, get all the backline (Bass & guitar amps, etc) behind everyone & then it's a case of making some adjustments to suit the venue you're playing in. It's really as simple as that & the PA is just to project everything better to the audience. I've played many gigs with no PA other than a small vocal PA. If your bass was going thru the PA & the guitars wasn't, then it may have been a case of not being able to hear one another properly.

If you're going down the combo route, then I can recommend the Markbass CMD 102p as being light, loud & sounding way bigger than a 2x10 combo. I used it in a noisy originals rock band with 2 guitarists & a drummer who knew not what quiet meant & could easily be heard. You can always add another 2x10 if needed. If going for s/h, then you might be able to get the combo & cab for @ £1000-1100. I had a Trace Elliott 4x10 combo & it didn't have a 1/4 of the volume or sound quality that this puppy does. If you go down the separates route, go with either 1x15, 2x10 or 2x12 cabs. 2 of stacked vertically if needed.

Just been listening to it on the NS website, it sounds awesome too. Anybody want to buy something off me for £2k?

Damn!

Cheers for the GAS! From reading the bumf, this could be my ideal instrument.

[s]IBTD[/s] Looks like I'm gonna have to edit too Sorry, I canny help you there bud.

Just to add, what about a booster? There's a few in the "fx for sale" & Bubinga5 has one for £50 that might be your answer.

I did a gig a couple of weeks ago at a beer festival of @ 150-200 folk & used my MB 2x10 combo on it's own (didn't use the PA), which has a LMII for the amp. My bass is an Ibby SR1000 (9v active). I had the input gain just above 9 o'clock & the out @ at 11 o'clock & was well loud enough. So it sounds like one of the main factors is the fact that your bass is passive. But like is said, there's nowt wrong with turning it up as far as needed.

I always thought the tone-wood thing was a bit flaky, now I know!

I would have thought using a metal instead of wood for a bass would sound a bit...... ...Tinny? -
For the price of the Hartke new, you could get a much better amp 2nd hand (tho it's a good buy if you don't want s/h). Fender aren't known for making decent cabs. Just because it's got an eminence driver in it doesn't make it good. I've got a Garden & that doesn't make me a good Gardener (looks like a rain forest ). Edited to say, what about a self build cab? Leaves you with more pennies to spend on a decent amp.

For an amp to run 2 8 ohm cabs, it would need to be able to run at a minimum of 4 ohms & your average 4 ohm head puts out @ 60-65% of the overall wattage at 8 ohms. My head is 500w at 4 ohms & 300w at 8. Bare in mind that watts don't have that much an impact on overall volume (it's how much air you're moving & a dozen other things that relates to that). There's a sticky at the top of this section with more info

What about a Roland V-Bass set up for it? Then you can sound like just about anything you want.
-
You used to be able to get fretless Soundgears in the 90s. I think the closest option left is a GWB.
-
I think the closest my band gets to "On Stage Movement" is if one of us follows thru.

GAS = Gear Acquisition Syndrome. You see nice gear & start wanting & end up spending all your money on things that you didn't really think of to start with.

If you love the sound of the 115, then why not get another? Keeping the same sized drivers will give you a more consistent sound than mixing speaker sizes.
Case in point, I have a 350w 8ohm head and a 2x10 8ohm cab. 350w distributed between 2 10" speakers. However, in the neverending pursuit of more volume, I want to add on a 4x10 8ohm cab. So now, 350w of power is being distributed between 2 cabs equally, however, this means that both cabs are receiving 175w. So, in the 2x10 cab, each speaker is recieving 87.5w but in the 4x10 cab, each speaker is recieving only 43.75w. This means that the speakers in the 2x10 are being pushed harder and will distort at a lower volume than the 4x10. So, it's important to make sure that when you are adding an extension cab, you need to make sure that the ohmage ensures equal wattage dispersion and then you make sure that the extension cab can handle the watts being delivered to it. Hope it helps a little and, of course, IME! Truckstop
Not taking away from any of what Truckstop has said here, as is all sound advice (pardon the pun). The first section above should have been worded more like "I have a 350w 4ohm head and a 2x10 8ohm cab. 200w distributed between 2 10" speakers. However, in the neverending pursuit of more volume, I want to add on a 4x10 8ohm cab. So now, 350w of power is being distributed between 2 cabs equally" If the head was 350w at 8Ω, it would more likely be 5-600w at 4Ω, the rest of your maths was a good lesson tho Sorry if I seem a little pedantic, no offence intended.

I'm using a CMD 102p combo. They're 300w - 8Ω & 500w - 4Ω (to get 4Ω you add a 2nd 8Ω cab). What's impressive is the amount of travel that the cones have compared to a lot of others. Monkonthehill has one for sale here. & I'm sure there's another on BC for sale. The amp section in the Markbass combos is a LMII (or LMIII on the new ones). Brilliant wee amps that get raved about on here & you can pick up a LMII for @ £300-350. Have a nose about the "for sale" section & do a search for your gear to see if it's worth more than you was offered, then decide if it's worth selling or keeping. You could even take a nosey around & see what gear you like & end up with huge GAS Have fun searching & remember, there's a whole community here to help you decide. If you can, get to a shop likes of "the Bass Merchant" or "Bass Direct" & try some stuff out.

If you were wondering why I have been so quiet recently...
not just that...from a man who had OCD, you would have to play the same note twice to even out the numbers.. always in groups of two it was for me.. i was a frickin knightmare with odd time..
So you never got to play Money by Pink Floyd? -
I think any good 1x15, 2x10 or 2x12 with a decent amp (or a combo) will see you well. I gig with 2 loud guitarists & a loud drummer & use just a Markbass 2x10 (& it beats the crap outta the 4x10 Trace I used before) & those Hartke amps get good reviews on here too.

Do I have OCD? I'm always picking my nose & looking at Basschat, even when I'm playing a gig!!! Edited to say "nice collection". I've wanted a Dingwall for yonks, maybe one day.
