1. I use the moog EP2 & it does exactly what it says on the tin. It's well built & has a pot at the side to let you choose how much of an effect it will have. Well worth £30 or whatever it is now.
2. The Way Huge Swollen Pickle has been getting a good shout on here recently. Chunk System brown dog looks good too, but the one that has me interested is the Monolith Lodestone (on looks alone).
3. What about this for a mere £5357? http://www.dv247.com/guitars/ibanez-gvb100...ar-amber--71962
4. Ibanez have always had a line of higher end basses. The SR series didn't start out as a budget line (AFAIK) & there's the Gary Willis signature bass which is well over £2k (& very nice it looks too). Would I spend £2k on an Ibby? I don't know. My SR1000 cost me £800 & have been very happy with it for 20+ years so it depends on how good it plays & sounds.
5. Could still get a guitar & a decent octaver or midi the guitar up. Me myself, I'd go back to analogue synths. They are good fun & I could probably play basslines better on it.
6. I'm gonna suggest trying some Markbass gear. Get yourself to a good shop like the Bass Mercant or Bass Direct & try loads of gear.
7. Probably the hardest bassline I ever actually tried to get all the way thru is Shy Boy by Talas. I got the most of it with some of the fills me not even coming close to, but I did manage to nail the solo from 2:11! After learning it I never managed to find a band that wanted to cover it (even as a more simplified version), but it taught me to use chords, harmonics & how to tap.
8. I got a Spider pedal board flightcase from flightcase warehouse just over 2 years ago (Man, it passes quick!). Comes with a painted bit of ply & some velcro. I popped a couple of rubber feet on the back of the ply & got some heavy duty velcro & job's a good un. All in cost about £70 IIRC & is a good solid case that protects my pedals really well when getting chucked into the back of a van & I normally keep the board in the case when using.
9.
I've been using this setup for years:
See! Even he uses a light stack (although not tall & I wouldn't sit my cab on it).
10. It's a dyslexic penguin of course. Are you still thinking about them?
11. I actually surprise myself sometimes!
12. I've found a couple of great solutions for your Tall Light Stack... Either pop these one on top of t'other Or if you're feeling really flush....
13. Wheesht all this PC nonsense! Get a mac & be done with it.
14. How about a nice set of wireless headphones then? Edited for more typos!!!
15. I Have a Markbass 2x10 combo that for most of the time sits vertically & sometimes I raise it up on something like one of the drummer's drum cases or a flightcase or two from something else. I've often toyed with the idea of adding another 2x10 for height, but there's nothing to warrant the expense just now (I certainly don't need to be any louder) & my other thought is to add a sub under it (still toying with building a BFM Tuba). Any time I go thru PA that woll handle everything I usually just DI from my amp & use it as a tiltback monitor pointing towards me. If I can't hear myself, it's usually for the same reasins as a couple others have mentioned (usually the guitarist boosting the bass or using an octaver, a slap on the back of his head usually rectifies this ). Edited for spelling!
16. If you've got a lasrgish gig bag then a Hercules Grab stand would suit you. http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/GS414B Or this might be ideal... http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/product/85...ic_guitar_stand Tho it might be worthwhile looking at all their guitar stands as it shows a few holding Jazz basses. Edited to say Guitar Guitar usually stock em & I got my grab stand from them for £20.
17. 1st question. What's your budget? a stereo 4x10 is a pointless gimmick IMO. You'd be wiser to go for either 2 2x10 or 2x12 cabs & stack em vertically & instead of having a clean & dirty, just split the signal, put one side thru your fx & then merge em back together before going into your amp. Decent cabs will handle whatever sounds you're planning on putting thru em. If you can afford it, have a look at the neo cabs from Markbass, Genz Benz, GK, TC electronic & so on. Then take a look at some of the lightwieght amps from those guys too.
18. I've thought about getting a birth year bass many times, but there's not much that I fancy from '71. Not even the Mrs is that old! Other than an over priced Fender Ricky or Vox, there's not much choice.

Signal loss
My advice would be to find a solution, rather than trying to mask the problem. I would, however, recommend the MF101 just for kicks.
+1 I wouldn't suggest this to mask the problem. Now that you know what's causing the issue, fix it. But if you're wanting to replace the Dod & keep the Colorsound & losing bottom end, it's a great option (IMO of course).

Signal loss

If you have the pennies, get the Moog MF-101 filter & a exp pedal comes in handy too (tho not essential for finky wah stuff, as it tracks very well). It actually increases bottom end so it might compensate the low end loss for your Colorsound thingy. I tried a compressor at the end of my chain & all it did was increase the noise floor. Might have been me not spending a lot of time with it tho (it was the guitarist's Boss compressor).
21. I'm gassing for their FX pedals just on looks alone!
22.
I picked up an Ashdown Elec Blue with 12" speaker for £100 a few years back and its superb....not the smallest or lightest of amps but looks good & a great sound. Useful for small rehearsals/small gigs/recording too
Haha, I've never took much notice of one of those before, but I love the pic of a VU meter on it! I used to use a Vox Venue 30Bass combo in the house, but nowadays I just use the MB combo. The Vox is in the boot of the car.
23.
Nowt is like a 4x10 if you like that type of cab. Two 2x10s horizontal? Try some Aguilar cabs if you can.
Don't you mean vertical? 2 2x10s would be my preferred option & don't really understand why some folk want a 4Ω cab to go with a 4Ω amp. On paper it might look like a match, but in reality it's more likely to be a restriction.
24. Been playing guitar for @ 28 years & sometimes I actually enjoy it. I popped the acoustic thru my moog pedals last night & it sounded pretty funky. Still prefer bass by a long way tho!!!
