Oooh, that looks interesting. I'm off to google!

I think whatever of the decent lightweight heads you go for, you ain't gonna be disappointed with sound or how loud they go. I use my MB combo (which is a LMII with a 2x10 cab attached to it) in a rock band with 2 loud guitards & a loud drummer, have a little OD on my sound & can easily be heard in all the mediumish venues I've done (village halls @3-400 folk) with plenty of bass to still make things shake.
-
I can't offer a comparison, but I think the fact that the Sansamp has been available for some time & is a good tool put's it ahead in popularity. However, next year the Superbooster could be the DI to have. I'd see if there's any fellow BCers on here that can loan you or let you try out their Sansamp & compare them together. I'll read your review in a fortnight

What about one of the Markbass valve jobbies? They are a couple of £k tho.

I think a good pedal board that has your sound & is fairly compact (if needed) is worth it's wieght in gold. I'm scared to think what wieght Shep's board would be!
-
The joy of creating your sound. It's expensive! My board so far totals about £700 & I still want to get an octaver, a delay & possibly a ring mod (& I also want to build a 1/2 decent overdrive to replace the PSK, or maybe mod it). My board's gonna end up dearer than my bass!

How much do you want to spend? Dan Electro for £30, or if you're looking to spend, then you have: Lightfoot Labs Goatkeeper Trem Cusack Tap A Whirl Red Witch Pentavocal Trem Empress Tap Tremelo T-Rex Tremster EBS Triple Tremolo Controller Or if you're looking for something that can do trem from a gentle shimmer right thru to the note going blip blip blip (either forward or backward) & then able to do patterns & overdrive, then take a look at the Moog Bass MuRF (here's a review & demo video I made).

just a note, make sure the new PSU supplies enough mA to feed it. I'd suggest making sure it's more than you need.

He's absolutely wasted!
^ My wife calls me a total pianist sometimes... at least i think that's what she's saying...
At least your's might be a compliment. My wife calls me a tw@t.

Hahahahahaha! I loved the Cowbell solo at the end. This has confirmed to me that Expert Village are on the wind up!

Other than the phase of the cone, it wouldn't make any difference unless being used with other drivers. Trace the positive wire & connect to the red & that should be ok. Or you could do Red to Blue & Blue to bits!

I rarely use a pic on bass bar about 2-3 songs but I usually use anything that is between .60 - 1mm, normally a yellow Dunlop .73mm (I think). This way I have a decent pick to use on the guitar too

Ibanez have previously put out basses in this price range & higher. SoundGear 400x & 500x was & still are high end and the Gary Willis GWB 1005 fretless is @ £3500 (tho they make a cheapish version of it also). When I got my SR1000, I had originally went to Sound Control for a Status bass (way back in 1990), had a shot of a few other basses before deciding I did want the Status & walked out with a SR1000 on order (I didn't want the pink one).
They're lined, but rather you than me.
Nah, Toooo easy! There's no challenge in that. Needs to be an unlined.
-
According to the Dingwall website, they do a fretless option. Whether it's lined or not I have no idea as I couldn't find any pics on the site.
-
I tried a couple of Dingwalls out @ 5 years ago in Ed Romans & really wanted one. It was just under $3k, which would have been @ £1400 in 2006 &that was for a 5 string Afterburner with wooden pots. I really wish I would have bought it back then (I had the spare pennies too!). I'm curious to see how folk will get on with an unlined fretless.

If you're looking around the £200 mark, then don't restrict your options. As mentioned there's Ashdown, there's also SWR, Orange & Hartke combos in your price range. If you're willing to go 2nd hand, have a look in the "amps for sale" section on here. You'll get much more for your money & the majority of bassists tend to look after our stuff.

Why not use your effects to come up with the kind of bass sound you want (incase you haven't done that already) & then decide what kind of music & what instruments you need? Then go & find those musicians & start your own band. I'm toying with one of 2 ideas when I get moved. 1, get back with my current band & get playing the stuff I know & work on new stuff or - 2, start a new band that's more down the breakbeat/dubstep/DnB route. Either is gonna be fun
If you think the effects v no effects debate is a little steamy, try the analogue effects v digital effects one for the full on volcano.
It's gotta be analogue all the way. Unless it's programmable or useful, then digital can be just as much fun
I think enough of you have mentioned the sub heading being offensive for me to apologise. It was meant in context to guitartists that i have worked with who can't seem to play as fluidly without a ton of effects as they can with - independant of genre. It was an observation not intended to harm or cause offense. I did try a compressor last night and was, well, left thinking whats it all about. In some ways i found it a bit of an impairment when i wanted to put some natural emphasis in certain passages of the song i was working with. All the compressors i have tried built into amps have been switched off after a minute due to IMO a negative impact on the sound. I am interested in trying a chorus though. Wondered what that might do for someone playing mainly old style funk and soul? And lastly - i probably DO use effects as the filters on the Little Mark are very powerful and i love 'em.
I don't think many on here really took any offence, I didn't even think about it. I don't find a compressor of use to me. Maybe I just don't know how to properly set one up, but each that I've tried only raised my noise floor & restricted my dynamics so I'll leave them to the soundman to apply if he wishes. I'm using a chorus just now. I used to have it on a slow shallowish setting so it was just subtle, but now it's on max depth & speed along with a few other fx to give that dubby wobble sound (it's a bit like me, BIG & thick).

+1 Take them back. Why are you wasting your time?
-
I tried a suitcase in GuitarGiotar (Glasgow) just prior to buying the MB combo & whilst it was a nice looking combo & sounded nice at low volumes, it farted the minute I turned it up. I then tried an EA 1x10 combo which blew it away (which was also very nice).

UPS = Useless Parcel Services. Still not 1/2 as bad as Sh!tty Stink.
-
City Link = worst courier available! Hopefully one day all companies will avoid these cowboys. Suggest to Ashdown that they find a different courier. I did to HP & was later told that they are looking to change couriers.
