I'd stick to the Bass Microsynth if you want to keep on playing. Forget about analogue synthesis, I lost quite a few years to these addictive little b*ggers, while my basses gathered dust ....
If either of those bad boys have an audio in, my bass would be going thru it! I've been very tempted to get another analogue synth (either a Moog, Korg or similar) to put my bass thru for our Electro Folk Dubstep stuff.
Bit of chorus, and I now have an octaver and compressor to go with the EBS Microbass II...and then last night there was just no room so I went radio->tuner->amp and it sounded just fine. Sort of goes back to my thread about slowly amassing the toys, only to have the vocalist say "I don't know why you bother with all that cr@p, it sounds great straight in". There could be a new For Sale thread coming at this rate!!
I think when you're using quite a few fx, you have to think about what sort of music you're playing. In my rock band, I wouldn't use much more than a bit of overdrive & a couple of songs got a bit of wah (as they were funky songs). In my current band it depends on the song, but there's usually something on. The singer has a Godin guitar linked to his microKorg & gets some superb sounds that allows me to experiment.

I never used any effects for decades (not on bass, anyway) & then I got myself a wee zoom multi fx. I now use some sort of effect on just about every song we do (originals bands), whether that be just a touch of chorus to fill out a line, a bit of dubbiness from the LPF or full on animated sequences that swell & scare children. I find it can sometimes be harder to play when using fx, especially thd whole band keeping perfect time with a murf.

You get some pretty amazing sounds on there. Awesome stuff! Your drummer is right on the money too.

+1 for Reaper. I now only use it or Garageband (& both are FREE!). When I start getting more use out of Reaper I shall be buying the licence, but at present I'm lucky if I get to use it once a month.

I'd go with the Macbook Pro option. It might be dearer but I much prefer OSX over all the versions of windows I have/had (currently have a laptop with W7 & whilst it's a pretty good machine, I regret not getting a macbook). Other option is an iMac. My main machine is an iMac & have it running both OSX & W7 under Parallels (tho I rarely use W7 on it anymore). My other 1/2 was always a diehard PC fan & hated macs, now it's a fight for who's on the mac & who gets windows (or sit & watch telly).

Do you still have to pay the return postage with Thomann if the instrument's not up to scratch? I was reading that thread Redstriper posted the link for & one chap say's return postage is @ £40-50. They do get a few thumbs up on there for being budget instruments, but also noted that some have misaligned necks. I wonder if Thomann can charge you postage for an instrument that isn't playable if you had to return it for that reason? Maybe the Squire option from above doesn't have a return option (depends on who you buy from), but you could punt it on at no loss whereas the HB is gonna cost either way (return or selling on).

I'm using the Alesis iMultimix 8 USB & have no complaints with it other than the fact that I haven't been able to use my iPhone on it since updating to iOS4. A chap from Alesis has been looking into it for me tho (I need to email him & see if there's any news on an update yet). I plug my gear straight into it & USB straight into the iMac.

My Ibanez bass is well. My Vox bass is ill (poor thing has a broken nut).

Kids these days (and in days past) want subs in their cars, in their homes & anywhere else so they can feel the bass. I'm the guy who likes to make those feelings!
-
When you're as cool as I am, you need a cool instrument to play & you don't get much cooler than a great bassline that makes people want to dance. So I took up the Tenor Horn.

There's plenty of decent "budget" basses our there without having to buy crap. Ibanez, Yamaha, Squire & Cort are just a few names that come to mind. Have a look in the "Basses For Sale" section on here.

That's pretty cool. I'd like to play to a metronome, but can't get the rest of the guys to (they say it takes away the feel, which is rubbish). However, I do believe my singer/guitarist has bought himself an Adrenalinn, so I should be able to take a click to the Murf from that to sync us. Here's hoping!
210 maybe were good, but 410 + 210 ashdown will be perfect, I think.
2 2x10s stacked vertically would have a better dispersion than the 2x10 & 4x10 (cover more of the audience better).
-
Does your drummer play along to you or do you tap tempo to the drummer?
-
If you like the sound you're getting from your 2x10 but need to be louder then I'd look for a 2nd 2x10.

Rather than type stuff up, here's a Wiki link. It'll explain it better than I could & I haven't read it yet (I'll probably update it in a few minutes after finding out it's full of nonsense ), but the conversion pic says a lot.

I've a nice flat for sale up here in Perth if you're interested? Bigger than most 3 bed houses too! Oop's sorry, wrong kind of flats. I have TI Jazz flats & they're what I was looking for (tho I haven't tried any other flats). It was a choice between them & the Labellas.

I'd go & browse the "Amps For Sale" section on here & then have a look at some of the similar posts that's been on here to see if there's things that will suit your needs. I'd choose 2 2x10s rather than a 2x10 & 1x15 (a 15 doesn't give you more depth). Have a look at the lightweight amps available from the likes of GenzBenz, MarkBass, TecAmp & such.

It does sound like there's a fault with them. Take them back to where you got them. If they're less than 6 months old, ask for either a replacement or refund. Over 6 months & they'll maybe try to repair them 1st. If out of warranty, you're still covered for 6 years under the sale of goods act against faulty parts.
