1. I dont think you'd be able to add another cab to the 6x10 or 8x10 unless your amp runs at 2 ohms. I don't think there'd be any point to pairing a 1x15 to either a 6x10 or 8x10 as it'd probably cut more out than add. Out of your choices, I'd get 2 1x15s. This would give you a good dispersion for gigs & also an easier carry for those smaller gigs that don't require a coffin against the wall. 2nd choice would be 2 4x10s. I wouldn't mix speaker diameters at all.
2. It seems to be ok now. I logged on here when I came into work just before 9 & never got logged out. Went for my lunch for an hour & came back & still ok. Will check the Mac tonight & see how that is when I go home.
3. I'd still get the 8 ohm, even if it's the 4x10 (tho my choce would be 2x10s vertically). This way you can always add more cabs if you need more volume & 2 identical 8 ohm cabs is gonna be a lot louder than 1 of the same in 4 ohm. The difference in volume between an 8 & 4 ohm cab that are identical is not much at all.
4. try either raising it at the G string or lowering it at the E. Take a note of how far you turn the screw so you can revert if it doesn't work.
5. That sounds more like an issue either with the amp, cab or maybe even the height of the pick ups on your bass.
6. I don't think a compressor is what's gonna give you a deeper sound (I could be wrong tho). An octaver or a tone filter type pedal is more likely to do what you're after IMO.
7. Get a 19" 2, 3 or 4 u rack & the rack ears for your LMII & you can pop a rack tuner or rack FX in there too. Then it'll look the part.
8. Hi, my name is G. I was a happily gigging musician with 2 bands & rehearsing 2-3 times a week. One day I decided to join Basschat for a little advice on amps, cabs & combos & what would be best for my situation. I got many good answers & got to know a lot of folk & enjoy talking about bass & everything that goes with it. That was almost 3 years ago. Now I spend every waking minute on here. Have no time to even talk to the other band members, let alone rehearse. Haven't had any gigs with them for many months & even longer since I had time to play bass with another musician (they just don't understand). No one communicates with me & I don't even know if they've replaced me Does this sound like you? Do YOU feel like you're addicted to Basschat? Then call Addiction UK on 0845 4567 030 now!
9. If you're not happy with your screwdriver, then I have a nice Vox Standard........... Looks are important to me too, but tone & playablilty is more so. I'm not a fan of Warwick streamers or Fenders all that much for looks (it's that hideous top horn ), but if it's not in a stupid colour & sounded & played well, then I'd happily play it as most of the audience wouldn't bother about the shape & it would still fit in with my blues/folk DnB band.
10. If you need sustain on notes in ballads, get an ebow.
11. I'm on mac, windows & iphone & have the same issue on all 3. It happens with an open browser too. I never log out, it's logging me out & saying I need to log in.
12. I was just about to ask this same Q in the "Off Topic" section. I thought it was just me to start with.
13. I'f you've no love for your Warwick, I'll swap you my defretted Vox Standard for it. It's in much need of TLC & needs put back together & some new parts (nut, pick ups, electronics, strings, knobs, maybe even a new neck). Tempted?
14. What about growing your nails? I play mainly with fingers & when I want a strong attack, apply more pressure or change where I'm playing. Playing near the bridge with the neck pu on will give you a similar(ish) tone to an upright bass, where as playing near the bridge will give you a more zingy, less bassy tone. An envelope filter could maybe enhance that sound, depends on what filter you use. Eg: the moog LPF only does up straight out the box, giving a typical funky duck or tuba like sound (if you know what I mean). Add a TRS lead (stereo 1/4 jack to jack) & take it from the env out to the cutoff in & turn the cutoff dial down to @ 120 hz & the amount dial to zero & the notes will have more attack & go down (very similar to an URB if played at the neck). Some filter pedals have a switch to go between up & down. I'd go try a few or get on YouTube.
15. If you like the sound of the 4x10 & want more of the same then I would add an identicle 4x10 as the 15 wouldn't put out as much volume & could cancel out some frequencies of the 4x10 (might be a good thing, but it's unpredictable). Like Lozz says, 4x10s are heavy beasts!
16. A couple of years ago I was in the market for a compressor after using an EHX White Finger on one of our songs in the studio. The song was played with a pick & the bassline didn't have any real dynamics in it, just a nice gritty rock sound. I then tried quite a few compressors & found that other than for a few songs, I couldn't get one that wouldn't flatten out my dynamics (it makes the quiet bits louder & the loud bits quieter, no good for me) & it also increased the background noise floor if put after my fx (didn't want to put it before my filter as every note would be the same if I use the envelope follower!). I really wanted a compressor sustainer too so I could get big long notes that could evolve in tone. I've never tried the TE tho & those who use comps say they are good.
17.
thoughts.. i want to hear them there results.. si
Same here. Wouldn't mind knowing more of the M9 & M13 myself as they've recently been brought to my attention.
18. You don't really need to worry too much about the wattage of the cabs, but don't go for some silly wee 50 watt things. Even if you're just gonna get 1 cab just now, I would opt for an 8 ohm cab as the difference the extra 150 watts going into a single 4 ohm makes will hardly be noticed & could be better utilised at a later date with the 2nd cab.
19. Another laptop worth having a look at is the HP G62 with an i3 processor. Me & the Mrs did a load of looking at the start of Jan & opted for it & it's a really well spec'd thing for less than £500.
20. The Hartke LH amps get quite a few praises on here. I've never used one tho so can't comment on it. As for cabs, I'd go with a decent 2x10, 2x12 or 1x15 & then at a later date you can add another of the same if needed. I've played quite a few loud gigs without me going thru the PA & had plenty of headroom with just the 2x10, & if your budget can stretch then there's a Markbass combo the same as I have for £650 in the "Amps for sale" section. I'm wanting to add an extra 2x10 to mine but it would just be an image thing rather than needing more headroom, but then it depends on the size of the gig. Best advice is to go & try a few different cabs & things out to see what you like. There's also TC Electronics' new BH500 & BC cabs that should be in your budget. Never been a fan of Peavey's bass gear, but I like GK stuff (what I've heard so far anyway).
21.
Oh my....what a thought!
" Don't think about it, just do it. Live it! That'll be £300." As a life coach would say.
22. What about a 2nd AD200b & 4 SP212s? Stack 2 each side & have a stereo signal going to them.
23. I'm using TI Jazz Flats in my fretted Ibby. Posted this before, but here's my embarrassing mush slapping them! Bass was plugged into amp sitting next to computer table & picked up with the mac's mic. Stringbusters for your strings.
24. If I sang my basslines & played along, they'd all be just the one note & out of tune! My singer plays & sings melodies/solos & I admire him for being able to do that (in a non gay way of course).
25. Oi! The forum is Bassists Wanted/Available. Your ad should either read: Bassist available, complete with band - 1 guitarist. Or: Bassist wanted. Must be able to play guitar to a high standard (better than you play bass).
