  1. The same could be said for anything. I’ve got an all valve amp, but I think my previous class D amp is a more reliable gigging amp (my valve amp needs a couple of new valves).
  2. Roli have some great deals on their hardware & software, as does Native Instruments.
  3. Playing that, finger style is pretty impressive.
  4. I've never been asked either. But if a band asked you to give them a song to learn that would put your bass playing skills to the test, what would it be? Forget whether it's a function band or covers, that was really irrelevant to the question. Another that's good fun to play & sounds great too is 24K Magic (the Bruno Mars song).
  5. The first few posts make a very good point & one which I totally agree with. I’m not joining any kind of band just now, I was just giving reference as to how I thought of this. The thread’s just for a bit of fun, what’s your song that shows your skills off.
  6. I follow a couple of Facebook "Musicians Wanted" groups. Not that I'm in a position to join a band just now, but hopefully in the future I shall. Something I have seen for function/covers bands (& even some originals) it to learn a couple of their songs & also a song that shows what you can play on bass. Got me thinking to what's good to learn as a showcase song. It used to be "Shy Boy" (the Billy Sheehan song) for me, but it's been a good few years since I've played that one. Now it's possibly Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver (Primus) or Hit Me (Blockheads). So... What's Your "showcase" song?
  7. I was. I moved to Stenny last year. Having to drive the cattle tracks was costing a fortune on suspension. 😂
  8. Been listening to Thomas Dolby’s “Aliens are my Buick” quite a lot this past couple of weeks. I’d almost forgot this album existed! The bass on the whole album is fantastic.
  9. I've got a bassline planted down. Shall veg out with it & see how it flowers. Just hope I can finish it in thyme.
  10. I had NI Start. Really good sounds. Install it & have a play about. I'm wanting Komplete (have wanted it for a while). There's lots of good free software instruments out there. KVR audio is a good website to find stuff.
  11. Digging this just now. The album is pretty funky.
  12. What BassTractor is trying to say is "Get a Moog". I agree. Get a Moog.
  13. Like is said earlier in the thread, but have pros & cons. I’ve got a 4x10 & a big valve amp. Looks & sounds great. Total pain in the butt to move about. I’d sooner have my markbass combo back. Here’s another option to consider... FRFR. I’m thinking about going down this route myself.
  14. Sorry, nothing from me this month (again).
  15. I’ve not had any latency issues. Just be aware of what software you have running & don’t overload the cpu.
  16. Yes. Safe to run through your bass amp. When I'm using mine, I take the lead from the pedalboard (which would normally go to the bass amp) & plug into the audio interface. I create a channel in Logic for the bass (you can do this in Ableton) & however many VST channels I want for synths, etc. I then take a cable from the output on the audio interface straight to the bass amp & another can go to the PA (mind make your DAW output mono). Oh, & 24k Magic is fun to play on the bass guitar too, just tune the bass to Eb.
  17. Not a Moog, but just before Xmas I played a gig with a few songs from the Greatest Showman. This Is Me was all synth. The Greatest Show was a mix of bass guitar & synth bass, great fun switching between them. Another fun song to play is 24k Magic. A bit of pitch bend wheel practice for you 😎 Don’t be afraid to grab those dials on the Moog whilst playing for some extra expression. The filter cut off is a good place to start.
  18. I’d this just for me? I don’t do either of these. Though I did excessively swear at a piper once.
  19. “Tie the shoelace like you were tying your shoes”. I take it he can’t tie his shoelaces in a bow, just a knot?
  20. Have you tried getting your TE head serviced?
  21. It’s in the basement of the electric guitar store.
  22. Add some sugar for abrasion to move the tough stuff.
  23. Did it! 😟 That's a shame. I've not been for a few years. Just googled. Permanently closed.
  24. There's also Red Dog Music, Scayles & Rimmers in Edinburgh (I think there's a Rimmers in Glasgow too). For Glasgow, there's Kenny's Music near Central Station & in Merchant City/Trongate there's GuitarGuitar, Merchant City Music & Strung Out (which is mostly 2nd hand instruments).
