Oooh! I like that pedal just off to the top right of your board, next to the OC-2. Ped would be the chap to talk to about the VB-99 (not sure who else on here has one). Just been reading your "gear" thread, niice. But last month you said...
I'm happy with everything on the board and can't see me changing much in the near future...
I suppose that's GAS for you!

One combo & used for everything. Practice, small - medium gigs on it's own or as a monitor & DI'd to the PA at larger venues. I also have a Vox Venue 30 bass combo on loan that never gets used for much other than home use if the MB combo is in the car. I need to give it back as vie had it for about 5 years!
A teenage band I support just did there first gig, rage against the machine, some ACDC, that sort of thing It was truly really good, if you closed your eyes, you would have not known how young they where Yes, they have been fully supported with the use of a rehearsal room each week and borrowing plenty of gear Point is, no reading music, just MP3s and hours in front of YouTube at the weekends by all the lads Now the issue is, do we encourage them as they are, because they really have something as a unit? Or Tell them, well thats great, but really you should forget metal and whats cool in your pier group and go an learn real music theory (which is not cool to them) Either way, we could be right or wrong in the future
You should do both, encourage them as they are & let them know how great they sound & point out that as a band. Theory would allow them to write songs (even theory in it's most basic form). You could point out that the bands that they cover use theory to write their songs. When did theory become uncool?

I've read the OP & a couple of answers, skipped all the pages to this one & read it so I don't know if this has been said (I'll get a read at work if I'm not busy). My opinion is that whilst you don't need to be able to read, it can come in useful to help understand music itself. Getting knowledge in theory (with or without being able to read score) is one of the most valuable assets you can have for songwriting. Simple things like knowing time signatures, what the scale is you're playing & what key the song you're writing is in make it so much easier to write. I could write you a song without picking up an instrument & have done in the past (such as on long train journeys & whether they're good or not is another Q). In both my bands, all the members can read music & understand theory (how much is debatable ) & we never read or write music when composing together but rely on theory to help understand what each other is doing.

There is Burn Place in Dingwall, just north of Inverness. For made up, I'd stay in Flat 9v, the Ritter Royal Apartments, Active Cort, Mesaboog Way, SE18 4SS

I plug my semi acoustic g***ar into my combo regularly & it sounds pretty good to me (for a bass combo) & sometimes I'll put vocals thru it too (via mixer).
Any thing wot [s]Toys R Us[/s] MarkBass make
Is this because you don't like the yellow, don't like the brand, just having a dig back at those whom dissed Ashdown & the VU meter or is there something in particular that you find useless about their amps? So far the only thing I've found useless on it is the XLR in. I've found use for every other function on it. Oh, another thing I found useless on the cobra 90 was the "compressor" button. It did sod all! I tried my hardest to hear any difference & got other folk to see if they could, but nothing.
-
I'd start with a multi effects pedal. As you're probably gonna want to use it at gigs, I'd look at the Roland ME-50b or similar. This will give you a selection of effects to mess with & see what you're going to use before deciding on changing to individual pedals or sticking with the multi route.

I think the most useless thing I've had on an amp is a 1 band parametric EQ on a carlsberg cobra 90. What the heck's that all about?

The only thing I don't like about fenders (& similar basses) is the top horn. Looks like some short fat dumpy cyst. I like things with a bit more style (tho that's down to taste) like non fender based shapes by Mayones, Shuker, Ritter, Overwater, Esh, Warwick. etc.

How long is the bass in your hands each day?
xgsjx replied to arthurhenry's topic in General Discussion
I like to play 8 hours a day, the wife likes me to avoid it at all costs. We comprimise & I get to play for an hour every 8 days. -
There's a good few options for you to explore here depending on what you're doing. We have a few songs where the guitar takes a solo & if the mandolin line doesn't fill the gap, I get the job. I sometimes have my murf set for a bit of drive & pop it on during the solo (whether it be to cover for the solo or to take the solo). I am looking to getting an octaver & fancy getting a MarkBass Super Synth when funds allow (could be some time tho).

Is there any Bass Conventions in scotland?
xgsjx replied to Bass_Guardian's topic in General Discussion
Moffat is easy to get to & it's a fairly quick road there (& back). I often take the old road as soon as I get past Lesmahagow anytime I'm heading down that direction. I'm not too sure what happens. From what I can gather it's a bunch of folk who all go for a curry, then the following day meet up in a room wih the doors closed to produce some low end sounds. -

There was a short discussion on here a few months ago about having something around the Stirling or Falkirk. I'd still be up for this on a Saturday preferably (church on Sunday here too). If folk are interested, I'll have a query about venues as I'm in Falkirk every weekend. I've wanted to go to the Moffat bash since hearing of them (aka joining here) but every time its collided with something else. -
hell no, i'm not that good.. i forgot to say they would definetely benefit from the addition of a live bass player imo..
You should get in touch & let em know. Wherther it be yourself that's interested in the job at hand or just to offer advice.

I've had my SR 1000 since 1990 & never needed another bass. I would like a fretless 5er, but funds won't allow or I'd snaffle a GW35. I'll get a pic of my ibby up later. It's a PJ configuration as opposed to the 2 soapbars on the current line. The range of tones is quite impressive & one of the reasons I ended up getting it instead of the Status I went for.

Are you seriously contemplating buying something called buggery? You could get something reliable s/h.
I want to do Alive. Singer claims she can't sing it
Brilliant song. What is it with female singers not being able to go up & down scales? I work with 3 of them & it's always "I can't sing that in THAT key" or "The verse is to low/chorus is too high". Do guys generally have a bigger range? Sorry, Back on topic. Both my bands are originals, but we do throw in the occasional covers. West Nashville Boogie Use Me Shy Boy (probably the only Talas song I've managed to play all the way thru) White Rabbit 'Tain't No Sin Hyperballad The Void Funky Town Blues Music My Michelle New Years Day There might be more, but I can't rememember all what we've done without going thru our setlists.
I personally look forward to the Mark Bass Road-Worn series and possibly a Vintage series, when I will gladly pay a 40% premium for a couple of concentric pots and an ash tray!
You know that has to be a smoked yellow crystal ashtray affixed to the top of the amp, complete with ash build up.

You want a great camcorder with exceptional quality, look at Hasselblad. A good SLR with decent video recording abilities can be had with lenses for @ £500. Canon & Nikon are 2 starting points for you. For a few 100 quid, there's loads of camcorders from the likes of JVC & Sony.
-
I think it's a good idea to have different sized cabs as if I wanted the 1x15 I most certaintly wouldn't want a small width sitting under my combo.

My Fender collecting friend (guitarist whom also thinks he can play bass & can to a degree) doesn't rate Hartke & told me to avoid them when I was looking at gear as he had some of their gear & found it unreliable. On here tho, it gets much love.

I have my almost ideal band. Singer plays guitar (Acoustic & Godin midi synth thingy) banjo, percussion & keys, there's a mandolinist that also plays ukulele, bohdran & spoons, and the drummer willingly switches to playing sampled beats & keys. I even play some guitar in the band! We do just about every style of music & I'm trying to talk em into doing some DnB & dubstep (I'm trying to disguise it as jazz or fusion ). Other problem I have just now is my issue. I'm a 60 mile round trip & have no pennies.

It's been a crackin piece of kit so far & highly recommend trying one out. I bought mine without even trying one.
