Just to add... Young MC sampled the guitar part to use in his rap song Know How. It has a good bassline but now sure if it's the one you're looking for.

I think some folk on here might be reading a little too much into things (it's easy done when reading as opposed to speaking). It's a fun/recreational band. I would get him working on some grooves that don't require much kick drum (like just on the 1) & get him working the snare & he can slowly introduce more kick as he improves. Jazz & Drum n Bass are good genres for him to work with.

Not quite a dedicated wah pedal, but the moog LPF with an expression pedal does the job very nicely & seems to add low frequencies to the sound. You can use either the inbuilt envelope follower to control the amount of wah & use the pedal to adjust either cutoff frequency or resonance, thus working in a traditional wah style & still have control over wahing or use the pedal to take control of the wah amount giving control of the amount that the envelope follower affects the sound. You can take a TRS cable from the env out jack & back into any of the inputs that control the 4 parameter knobs letting your playing dynamics have control of more than just the wah amount. Downside is it ain't cheap (mines was £150) or small & the expression pedal is an extra £30 (tho you can use just about any brand). But it is built like a tank with nice wooden sides.

The correct order should be Bass > Distortion > Amp & put the Chorus in the FX loop. However, I wouldn't do that & mess about until you get the sound that YOU like. It's 1/2 the fun.

From reading on here some love the MB cabs, some loathe them. I have the MB 2x10 combo & think it's one of the best combo's I've ever tried, let alone owned & good at shifting a fair amount of air. I'm sure there'll be a few along with more lightweight cab experience than I to help out. oh, that Ibanez 1x10 combo sounds like a stonker, but I'm not sure how much air the single 10 will move.

I don't see why you couldn't buy an exp pedal, take the plug off it, unsolder the wires from the pot & solder the wires to the corresponding wires in the exp pedal. Or you could remove the pot & wire up a trs socket to the wires into the hole the pot came out of. Saves removing the jack off the exp pedal & allows them to be split for transport.

Was your drummer a good drummer 20 years ago? If not, then sack showing him videos & whilst you're at it, sack him. If he is just rusty & was once good, then it could pay off to work with him.

Show him some Cobus or JoJo Mayer videos to give him some encouragement & hopefully he'll look at their tutorials on YouTube (watching them makes me wanna take up drums!). Get him a metronome going thru some headphones & just the 2 of you book somewhere for the 2 of you to jam some rhythms (a bit of drum & bass if you wish), this will help you to gel together then the rest of the band can fall in with the rhythm.

A few such as SteveK & McGraham sound like they think the same as me on this one. I'm a musician because I play an instrument to create music. I'm a bassist/bass guitarist/bass player because that is my main instrument. Sometimes I'm a guitarist, sometimes I'm a keyboardist, sometimes I'm a drummer (not a very good one mind), but at the end, I'm a musician. I was in Ed Romans' about 5 years ago trying out a few basses & they offered to put it in a well used case complete with worn out stickers. Or if t's a bolt on neck, remove the neck & pop it in a suitcase.

I like a nice big lump of wood, maybe not coffee table sized but something with nice features to the wood do it for me. What I don't like is shiny polished wood that looks like a Formica print. The finish has to be either matt, waxed or something else with little sheen to it . Just realised I like the 3rd option from what KingPrawn & EBS Freak don't like. Ritter have a finish that I love on this bass. But I wouldn't say no to this shiny wood lump.

The Moogerfooger MF 104z is a cracking analogue delay pedal, but at £460 it should be!

At first I thought he meant singing voice, but now I'm not too sure. But after reading more of the link, now I think he means the voice that you produce with the bass via your fingers. Like Mr Foxen says above. If if is singing voice, then he obviously hasn't heard me sing!

I was just curious as to why it was closed,binning it & starting a new one is a better idea. I take it I'm the only one here with the same old bass (not lack of wanting tho ).

Pardon me if similar has been posted as I haven't read all the pages, but doesn't the name Bass Guitar give the answer away slightly? On Basschat gear we have sections called Bass Guitars & Double Bass/EUB to keep them separate.

Did you buy your gear as a pack? You could take it back to the shop & ask for a replacement if it's less than 5 years. Or you could Google how to take it apart as it might be like my wee Vox where you unscrew the carry handle & the amp just slides out. Then buy a decent lead & either bin or return the crappy one that fell apart for a refund. Sarah, that's shocking!

When my band Frigorifico was on the go, some of the songs followed a formula but then everything was improvised, so we knew the chords & how long choruses & verses was supposed to be & played about from there. The majority of the songs was written from jamming & then we'd just remember roughly what we did. Good fun.

I always had my action set about mid. After having read countless posts about lower action being faster, easier, whatever else, I decided to lower my action & one thing I have noticed is constant fret click. Doesn't matter how heavy or light I play, fingers, pick, slap or tapping. Every 2-3 notes & CLICK, pain in the bahookie! I haven't found any advantages yet as my playing is just the same & can go up & down scales no quicker. The bass could be a factor in how low an action you can have or maybe my truss rod needs slight adjustment (I do get fret buzz when I try & play the 7th fret on both the E & G strings together, limits my B minors).
