  1. How about a little Jazz/RnB. Probably my fave genre at the mo just for the fantastic & fun to play basslines!
  2. I’m hoping the OP hasn’t died. They’ve not followed up on here.
  3. Sorry, I’m missing this one too. ☹️
  4. I used to do something similar using a Moog Bass Murf.
  5. God told them?
  6. & here’s me just about to start with the pan pipes & penny whistle.
  7. Worship songs is one of the things I sure don’t miss since deconstruction. 😇
  8. Just learn the chords G, C, D & Em. Then put a capo on to suit. you might find most of the time you won’t even need all those chords.
  9. ‘Tis what I do. At home, if not going through laptop, I go straight from my preamp to a studio monitor (or as a portable practice rig). With a band, I replace the monitor with an active PA cab.
  10. I’ve had 3 different sets of Flatwound strings on my Ibby. First was a set of TI Jazz flats. Great strings, but the D string snapped after about 2 1/2 years. I replaced them with a D’addario Chromes. They were on my bass for 10 years & but not changed them for the sake of a change. I now have Rotosound 77 flats & they're still a little bright & zingy for my liking (almost roundwound sounding), so I’m hoping that they wear in, or I’ll go back to the Chromes. Each set does sound very different & so far I’ve liked the Chromes the most. But the TI Jazz were very good too.

    Maschine

There’s not much menu diving on the Maschine when using it with the software. Once you load up your sounds/samples/loops the majority of what you need is on the front panel. Most of my time has been spent playing with the expansions that I have (I got a load with Komplete a couple of years ago & then another 10 of my choosing when I got the Mikro). But my plan is to make my own sounds & samples to use in it. It’s a lot of fun playing chords on the pads with my left hand & doing lead or bass on the Roli Rise with my right hand. Yes, I could play chords on the synth. But I can set the Mikro to play extended chords with a bass note, which is otherwise impossible with one hand. 🙂
  12. I’d been thinking about getting a Maschine Mikro mk3 to use in my live setup for some time, so the Mrs got me one for Xmas. I'm mostly going to be using it for either triggering loops & samples or play it in chord mode, but might practice a little finger drumming too. Any other Maschine users on here & have you got any tips or tricks?
  13. I miss my 101. ☹️ Nice board. 😎
  14. An ad for this just popped up in my facebook feed. Interestingly enough, I might be in the market for a new octave pedal. Anyone tried one yet? https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0EAE

    best value DAW

TBH, I just bought a new MacBook Pro M3 pro because my 2015 MBP was failing to cope with what I was wanting Logic to do. I use is to send midi to the Jupiter X from Live Loops & get the audio back as individual audio tracks (all via USB) & then I put whatever fx I need onto those tracks, but at the same time I’ve got other loops playing various VSTis & also using my Roli to play another VSTi (usually Equator 2). Then have another usb coming in for the edrummer’s tracks & processing them, sending it all out to a mixer & record the performance too. The old MBP stopped playing the moment I ran 2 loops to the Jp X & hit a note on the Roli. The new MBP cost about the same as the Jp X, but it’s going to be the centre of our performance.

    best value DAW

I don’t know if it’s changed in the last 15 years or so, but as good as Reaper is, it had a very steep learning curve. It’s still good value for money, but if you’re a Mac user, Logic is better value than just about anything else out there.
  17. You’re getting the original band mixed up with the tribute act - Ian Jury and the Blackheads. Im sure they covered a couple of songs by Squeeze too.
  18. I joined a jazz/triphop band a little over a year ago. Drummer has both acoustic & electronic drums. Most of the time he could do everything on his SPDX pads with a couple of pedals added. His stuff sounds amazing & I preferred it to the acoustic kit. Me & the drummer have just started a side project doing chillout electronica. His kit is going to be the SPDX, his Vdrum module with just a couple of pads, a control surface to trigger loops & a monosynth. Probably the only instance where the bassist has more kit than the drummer! 🤣
  19. If you need a better DAW for the same price (free), then go look at cakewalk.
  20. Focusrite is doing a little bit off their FAST Bundle. It’s reduced from £330 to £275. However, I got an email from Novation a few days ago with a code. So I tried it last night & got the FAST Bundle for £40. Here’s the code. FASTBUNDLEBF2023
  21. I had one for about 5-6 years. Bought it about 15 years ago IIRC. Great combo & sounds best put on its side. I never played a 5 string through it, but my rig was synth/dubstep focused & went lower than the low B on a 5er.
  22. Gonna suggest a Roli Seaboard block. They’re midi over Bluetooth (which works lovely on my Rise25).
  23. That would be very easy on a Roli Rise. Another option would be to just turn on portamento for that bend/slide & then back off once you hit the last note.
