Get yourself a moogerfooger 101 & exp pedal and get a good dirty fuzz & that should be you. If you plan on having an overdriven sound all the time, then the mf101 does a very good analogue distortion (drive).
To get a bit of elevation I like to stick my cab on top of the g**tarist's combo. Sounds crap of course but really p*sses him off
That is a genius idea! I'm gonna have to try it. ^_^

I voted the 4th option. I always prefer to spend that bit extra to get something that's well made & is going to play and sound good. I was interested in getting a Rockbass at one point as on paper they should be good. I went & tried one & was shocked at how cr@p it was made. I've tried other basses of similar price that don't have a "heritage" type label (Ibanez etc) & found these can be in a higher league than basses with a label costing twice as much.

I tried a Rockbass Corvette in Reverb about a year ago & was seriously disappointed with the build quality. It buzzed a little & the parts on it felt so brittle & was noisy to turn. Tried a Warwick $$ & was a totally different instrument (kinda expected that). If you want a Vette, I'd save up a bit longer for a Warwick.

Good stuff. Glad to be wrong for a change You should try both a 2x10 & a 1x15 ext cab to see what one you like the best with your combo.
-
I've no experience with your combo, but I don't think you can plug an ext cab into the EB series. I'd check there's an output for speakers round the back.

God knows where I got Fife from I'd been looking at maps for most of the morning (planning a drive). I've never heard of Moon for ages & didn't know he was still building. I might have a wee search later.

Hello, that's a very nice collection you have there. Would that be the John Taylor that played in DuranDuran?
The combo sounds great on its own, I'm just thinking about moving a bit more air and keeping plenty of clarity at loud gig volumes. This will be gigged in place of a traditional 4x10, 1x50 stack - so I need good punch and loudness without feeling like I'm thrashing it.
You have a 1x50? You could stack your band on that puppy! After a year of using my MB combo I find I have the bass at @ 1 oclock, midbass on 10-11 oclock & mid & treble on flat. The VLE at @10 oclock & the VPF is near enough off. Gets a really good bassy sound from my bass & still has top end clarity whenever I slap or dust the higher end.

Do you own the most expensive bass on Basschat
xgsjx replied to steve-soar's topic in General Discussion
The word "Chavvy" has been used for decades by folk from the fairground to refer to "not so clever" or "pesant behaving" males. Which IMO seems to tie in well with the people who get classed as chavs. -

Never understood why the homosexuals stole or adopted the word "gay", or was it just some PC F@*kwit trying to be PC? They can be bright and cheerful if they want Just don't prod my poo -
Jeez that vid makes me feel old! Still one of the best bands ever.

I tried a CS3 (unmodded) last night & it's one noisy muvva! Think I wont be bothering with a compressor as all it seems to do is add noise. I knew the unmodded would remove some bass but this was a surprise when the 7th fret A string had more bass than an open E (much more). & as for the sustainer feature, I think you'd need some verrrrry high end gear to be able to use that (makes it pointless really). Just my opinion on compressors after wanting one for so long.
-
Have you tried the TC cabs? They do a 2x10 & a 2x12 & have the potential on paper. I haven't tried any of their stuff so can only go on what I've read.

Another new band..now need to find a name..first gig soon !!
xgsjx replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
The joys of picking a good band name, hard isn't it! My band started off as Daddio, then JamJar & after several crap names ended up at Frigorifico. I can't pronounce my Rs, so I think my singer (who came up with the name) is taking the peepee. I do like the name tho. -
It does look like a painful position on my Avatar, but I normally don't play in that sort of position. My bass is usually directly in front of me & the strap holds it in the same position whether standing or sitting. I usually have the neck tilted up slightly to keep my wrist fairly straight. The majority of songs I'm ok, it's just holding chords or playing octaves via string skipping that gives me jip.

If he's really an ok sort of guy then diplomacy is a good thing & see if he'll let you pay over a period of time (a year or something), or if all adds up ok with you then pay it all in one or two instalments. I would arrange some sort of agreement tho as you are preventing dampness setting into HIS building, which is something HE should be doing, not you!

From the sound of it, I might just keep my bass if it's worth very little. The sentimental value is higher than £250. It is a Jap model & the serial starts with F & then 6 #s. I got offered £600 for this bass about 10 years ago & was tempted to sell as I wasn't playing much, but was glad I didn't not long after (joined another band for a brief spell). I'm gonna have a look at some cheapish Warwicks as I tried a Corvette last year & liked it. I do plan on getting a bass built but I think that'll be at least a year away. I've seen a couple of things that might be of interest but I need to wait until next month to see what my work bonus is like.

I noticed a lack of luthiers up my way & had spotted these chaps earlier if you want it to add to your list... http://www.baileyguitars.co.uk/ They're based in Maybole in Fife but I know nowt about them. Have been considering building a bass with them tho. Anybody on here used them before (or even heard of em)?

Unfortunately I do get the same pain sitting down playing my bass & I have it hung so it sits pretty much the same either sitting or standing. I have for the past few months tried loads of different positions (with my bass that is), adjusting the strap length & the angle I play it at & tend to normally have the neck up a little so the headstock is roughly in line with my shoulder, but I still get the left wrist pain after holding chord positions etc for more than 10 mins. All is fine if I'm just playing single notes and most scales are painless & I've recently lowered the action of the strings to see if it helps but to no avail.

I had a look at the W&T website, Very nice basses indeed. Is that a W&T in your avatar? Look forward to hearing your clips.

It's the SR1000E from 1990, with IBZ C2 pups.

I think you're gonna have trouble playing it! Your avatar shows you as a lefty, that nice shinny new bass looks like a right winger to me. Very nice bass tho, I like the body shape.
