1. I've had my ibby SR1000 for about 20 years & as of this past couple of years it's been giving me a sore wrist when trying to play chords or octaves (I posted something about this in the general forum). I've checked with the doc & there's nothing there, so I went to my local (music shop) & tried a few different basses just to hold my fretting hand on & spent about 45 mins in the shop doing this with Fender & Cort basses (all he really has in) and I never got any pain in my wrist at all. That leads me to conclude that the very shallow neck is the culprit. So now I'm thinking about getting rid of my bass (which I don't wanna do ) and replacing it with something else with a thicker neck (about 90% of other basses I recon!). Problem is, I've no idea what it's worth to sell & what sort of money I'd be needing to spend to get a bass of similar quality. The bass has quite a few chips in it but plays like the day I bought it & has been ultra reliable, I've never had the need for a backup bass. Any help on pricing what I should sell this for (if I do) & ideas on manufacturers to replace it with would be very much appreciated. Cheers, G
2. Hopefully if there's no contract you'll not be legally tied to paying either!
3. Two originals bands. 4 piece rock band called Frigorifico. I use the term rock very loosely there as we play reggae, punk & D n' B as well as any thing else. 3 piece (and guest musicians) alt dot band called BigRoom. No idea what you could class the music as, some folk, country, jazz, blues & fusion all put into a pot & stirred up.
4. Just had a wee listen & I think it fits pretty well, there's one or two notes I would change maybe but they're insignificant. Having a lazyish bass line sits nice with busy guitar & I do like the changes from low to high, although if I had one criticism, it would be one section that the guitar plays as some of it sounds a bit funny, just my thought on it tho. But yeah, I like it. Nice one. Quick edit. The guitar could probably stop being so fiddly when you're playing the top end & then evolve the same thing with the fiddly bits as you head down again.
5. Just Give up... .......... Relying on other people, they'll let you down. I have a guitard friend who I was relying on to start a band with & every time I got something together, he backed out. I spent ages playing about on my own & then all of a sudden met more musicians looking for a bassist than I had in the past 20 years!
6. Is the dehumidifier yours? Why are you paying for the dampness if it's not your building? You should charge him for keeping the dampness under control & if you pay a rate as well as lekky then you & your band are being taken for a ride!
7. The LMII is a cracking wee head & I dare say you'll probably be happy with the Aguilar cabs too. I have heard good things about Alex's cabs too(Barefacedbass). GuitarGuitar on St Johns Road has Aggi stuff & can get Markbass stuff in too. I don't know anywhere up here that has MB stuff already in stock tho. If you're after an easy lift a combo like mine might be the answer, but then again, I suppose the LMII will fit in a gigbag or similar.
8.
Maybe a 2x10 is better in this instance than a 1x15 - but what weighs more - a Durex filled with 16 x 1 oz. lead weights or a Durex filled with 16 ozs of feathers?
Personally, I'd go with the Durex filled with 16x1 oz of lead, more compact & easier to swing at guitarists making stuff up on the spot. Whatever you decide, I'd probably go with neo speakers to keep the weight down.
9.
Buy Ashdown it is the only way... or worse... Behringer...
There's still a few other non corp companies left, just not many
10. There's a lot of good advice already there for you & as most say, sit with a drummer or drum pattern & play a groove with it. Start off with just one or two notes bumping them in time with the kick & then try putting a different note in there that doesn't land on a kick. Then drop one or two of those kick notes you was playing & you should have a groove. Listen to what you're playing & play along to some CDs on your own. "Working in a coalmine" by Lee Dorsey is a brilliant easy bassline to play that has little in the way of drums to back it up. I've been playing bass for 20+ years and a few times have went to give it up but I'm glad I didn't. I was gonna get some tutoring but never did(still thinking about it tho). Playing things that you enjoy get easier as you gain knowledge of how the bass works. Like I've said to a few folk, Bass might be easier to learn quickly than guitar, but it's harder to get good at (I play both & I find guitar a doddle to play but there's probably 100 guitards for every bassist). At the end of the day tho, if bass is boring you then you may not have the "groove" needed to enjoy playing it & maybe keys or sax would be a better option, but only you know the answer to that. I would put into practice some of the guys here have given you (AM1 & all the other lovely ladies are included as I class either sex as "one of the guys") and see how you feel afterwards. Most importantly, enjoy what you're doing. Even if it is something ridiculously easy like "the Void" by the Beatles.
11.
tone mice.
Nope, it would be the mice off of the mouse organ from bagpuss. Sorry, I'll be going now.......
12. I was with you all the way there until you mentioned "Tesco's Value chocolate sponge roll." That killed a good thing. I'm off for a donut.
13. It looks like you flip a few fasteners, pull a couple of sides & it turns into a 9x8 cab!
14. Cheers, I'm going down to the docs this morning to register (new doc) so I'll get it checked out when I'm getting my health check. My avatar is different from my normal position as I usually have the bass directly in front of me & the neck lower down so the headstock usually sits on the same line as my shoulder (just checked this from looking at a few bits of video from my band playing).
15. I've been playing on the same bass for about 20 years but this past coule of years I've started to get an uncomfortable wrist on my fret hand if I'm holding a chord or octave for more than a few minutes. Does anyone else get this? Is it just getting old? I was wondering if it's the fact that my ibby has a rather thin neck & was thinking if changing to a wider necked bass might be the answer. Does any of you guys have any experience in this sort of thing? Should I be changing basses (suppose that's never a bad thing) or should I be looking at slinging my bass in a different position (I've tried a couple of different poses but still the same)? I usually have my bass hanging roughly about the same height as if I was sitting down (always have done). I don't get this uncomfortable pain any other time.
16. Fascination Street by the Cure is a cracking & easy bassline
17. Just tried it again & it played fine. Quality stuff First time I clicked it it came back saying video removed.

Moog MuRF

I have one & use it for sweeping sounds & as a tunable distortion. I've put some samples in the review section if you wanna hear it.
21. No probs here. I've managed to get a good sound that sits with the drums very nicely.
22. I've got the 102p also & have been tempted countless times to add an extension cab (it's gas from being on here!), but I haven't a need for one really & I do all sorts of sizes of gigs upto @ 300 folk often without me going thru the PA. I play in a pretty loud rock band with 2 guits & have no probs being heard when we're at full pelt (sometimes I'm asked to turn down). I use the moog filter to get some very bass heavy sub sounds & the 102p copes with it very nicely, shaking glass in doors etc.
23.
I bet drummers get a lot more offers.
Finding one that can count & keep a steady tempo is a very very rare thing indeed. Back on topic, since I moved to Perth I have had a few offers from different bands & have been tempted, but the missus wouldn't like me to join any more (they can be hard work sometimes). I've met countless guitards here too.
24. Maybe he gets sweaty fingers & it's quicker than wiping them on his jeans/shirt?
25. Either Lidl or Ikea bags with some bubble wrap & gaffer tape. But I have the Roqsolid cover for my MB combo so a +1 for them from me.
