1. If black polymer means the strings will look black instead of silver I hope they are not like the DR strings colour coated ones. I've had a few sets of the Peacock Blue strings which look fantastic when you first put them on but after a week or so they look scabby & sh!t. They was very bright sounding strings & do keep their brightness for ages but they don't keep the G string for ages, it lasts about a month (that's from about an hour's playing each day) then snaps.
2. I asked here if there is much difference between 4 & 8 ohm & got this reply: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39631 From my perspective, a 4 ohm cab is not as versatile as an 8 ohm as it means you're not gonna be able to put an ext cab on should you ever need to unless your amp can run at 2 ohms & the cab is still gonna produce 103db when your amp is topping it (or whatever it may be). Just thought I'd give you my findings from what I've learned here to see if it helps you any.
3. Something I noticed from reading that manual & I've noticed it before...The 4x10 has a usable response of 31hz to 13khz & the 1x15 has a usable response of 40hz to 13khz. Does this mean that if you was to compare each individually, the 4x10 would produce a deeper bass? I understand the frequency curve throughout would probably differ considerably as you moved up the octaves.
4. Early '80s Vox bass. But then again, it's the only P copy that I've had & it weighs about 3 ton.
5. Excellent stuff. I really fancy building some pedals but I fancy trying a BYOC kit from here first. http://www.vibe-o-tronic.co.uk/

Buzz

Cheers, I removed the copper that I put on the cables but left it on the sides (shielding the sides was recommended in the moog forum). At rehearsals on Monday it had little or no buzz, so it could well be where it is in the house. I'm using a Godlyke PSU with a daisychain that does make a bit of squeal, but I think it's due to it being digital switching & if I roll off a bit of treble (VLE knob up a couple of notches does it) then it's gone.
7. I haven't tried many filter pedals but I'll nominate the Moogerfooger MF-101. Definitely the most versatile as you can have 4 expression pedals plugged in at once to control the parameters. I find one does the job tho.
8. Good shout on starting this topic. Helps identify what's most used for different styles of music (states the obvious ). I play a mixture of styles but mainly rock so I like the idea of using a compressor & an octaver & might get use from a chorus too. Just now I only have a filter & a MuRF (which does do some very convincing chorus like effects and has great analogue distortion) but fancy building some pedals such as BYOC.
9. Did you check both the fuse in the plug & any in the amp? Might be a damaged cable or a wire on the mains lead has come loose (such as one of the screws not being tight in the plug & a wire has come out, has happened to me before). If it's a kettle lead, try replacing it. If none of this works then I'd look to getting an engineer to look at it as Hubrad suggests.
10. Helloo, I've got a buzz! I got a MF-101 & it buzzes a bit. I shielded the sides with copper & still it buzzes. I have just tried putting copper foil around the wires from the PCB to the output & also around the wires from the PCB to the stomp switch and covered the foil with insulation tape & it still buzzes (maybe worse with that). I discovered that moving the cable from the MF-101 to the amp changes the level of buzz & if I hold the cable with 2 hands it goes almost away. I did this with a few cables & all was the same. Does anybody have any ideas on eliminating or reducing buzz, would copper shielded cables be the answer?
11. Haven't had a chance to get em up but I'll try & make a bit of time tomorrow if I can & will post here as soon as done with details of where they are.
12. I have the CMD102P too. Top bit of kit & surprisingly loud & can really get the lows shaking & weighs less than my 30 watt vox combo which measures about a third of the size! If you're near Dunblane on a monday night you can come & have a blast. Edit... It's loud enough for small to medium gigs without PA & if you needed more you can add a cab for the bigger gigs (or causing subsidence).
13. I just rememembered, I used to have as pair of Vox 4x10 pa speakers when I was in my early 20's. They was each about 5' high & about 1' wide & all vertically aligned. Just thought I'd share that.
14. I don't get it. Why so many pedals on a gigging board? I can understand collecting loads of different pedals & could have good fun doing so, but are 15-20 pedals needed for a gig? I'm not trying to bee cheeky or anything like that, just curious into the workings of it & how so many can be used in a gig set.
15. I tried changing the jumper over on my amp, still got the clean bass signal along side the effected one. Back into the front for me.
16. I always put my fx between bass & amp, but after reading this I have tried putting it in the loop. + side, I lose most of the high pitched squeal that was there from using the Godlyke PSU on the MF101 (the VLE got rid of this by turning to just above 9 oclock). - side, I need to pull the head out the combo to change the jumper as I get clean signal mixed with fx signal. Might suit some folk, doesn't suit me. But I'll try changing the jumper.
17. Just a wee thought, 90% of professional bands don't play their own songs the same live as what they recorded.
18. If it's a straight copy of each song then listen to the song & it's arrangement & break it down & pop onto web & get the chord arrangement (chordie or 911 tabs, etc). Learn the original bassline & then take your own spin on it if you want. If it's not a straight copy then get the rest of the band, find out the arrangement & chords used & make sh!t up.
19. +1 on the grill, looks similar to the Markbass grills. Spray it black (primer it first).
20. +1 to all the guys who suggest getting a cheap starter pack. Doesn't have to be the squire one tho (I'm not a Fender fan I'm afraid), but any cheap second hand Ibanez or Rockbass will get you started for £1-200 & you can get a cheap combo for next to nothing that'll be fine for bedroom use until you decide if bass is or isn't for you. Have a look in the For Sale sections on here, there's some good starter stuff for not a lot of money. Personally I wouldn't spend too much to start with & then if you like it you can put what you saved towards a better combo or whatever.

Limiter pedals

Hi, I managed to get a quick recording of it & have put it in the review section as part of my existing review. Might be what you're looking for, or it might not be. Can get some good Synth like sounds with it as well as 70's funky wah.
22. I've now gotten the EP2 expression pedal & the FS1 footswitch. I use the FS1 just for tap tempo on the Bass MuRF but my drummer can't get his head around playing in time with something (I guess this is a common drummer issue ) so it gets used mainly in my acoustic band (no drummer there, you see). The EP2 I mainly use on the MF101 & usually have it in the AMOUNT input, but also like using it in the CUTOFF input & I'm seriously considering getting a 2nd pedal or making a footswitch to switch between the two. Most of the time I have the filter set to 4-pole as I like the sub sounds I can get. Here's the EP2 being used on the MF101... I started with a bit of bass in Bypass mode & then I'm using the pedal on the Envelope Amount & had the filter set to 2-pole for a brighter sound (I think I did anyway). The next part is using the EP2 on the Filter Cutoff. First on 4-pole & then on 2-pole. This is just my bass (Ibby SR100) plugged into the MF105b set to bypass (which is true BP) then into the MF101 (which doesn't have true BP) then straight into the back of my iMac & recorded into Garageband 08.
23. The main purpose of the recordings is to get gigs. So far I've had nothing back, but I have only tried the Perth area.

Limiter pedals

Moogerfooger mf101 with an expression pedal (or two) is very controllable. Some 101's buzz a bit but you can fix this by shielding the insides of the wood panels with copper sheet. I'll get some samples up using the ep in my review later.
