When I export (share) as a wav (or mp3) in GB it does lose a lot of top end. The mixes on myspace was finished off in Audacity, I only used GB to fix mistakes & line up tracks so they all started at the same time & then exported each individually (which seemed to keep the clarity there) as a wav & put them all into Audacity & balanced them off in there before mixing down in Audacity.
You can switch this off though and bounce down to CD quality. Deselect "compress" when you click on the "Send to iTunes" tab on "Share".
I thought that, cause I had done that with tracks that arn't on Myspace, didn't sound any better tho. Does it convert the wav files to MP3 for individual tracks to start with tho as opposed to what you export it as?

It did all start off on an Alesis HD, not sure if it is the 24 tho. I've downloaded Reaper & had 5 mins on it so far & it sounds much better already. It is more a case of getting things to "gel together" & sound like a finished song as opposed to high sound quality, but I suppose they go hand in hand. When I get some time I'll get the wavs for one of the tracks uploaded somewhere & post a link. G

Most cuntry music is the same old bollo*s as the last one, but there is one or two that are gems, but that is literally ONE or TWO! My singer is Canadian & we have an AltDot band & he's tried introducing a couple of cuntry style songs to us that he's written & we end up trying to make it as uncuntry as much as we can. I go to Vegas nearly every December & they have the rodeo on (another pile of crap) & all you get is cuntry music with cowboy hats & tassles & we get thrown out of casinos for taking the mick. Good fun indeedy I do like Steve Earl tho, Copperhead Road is a great album. shitnia twain I can't stand!

I was planning on spending about £6-700 last year & quickly found out that I was very limited. Best thing I found was slightly over budget but got it & that was the MB cmd102p 2x10 combo. was thinking about Ashdown & Ampeg & GK, was very unimpressed with the first two & never got to try the GK but lightness won the day & I'm now a very happy chappy.

Thanks for all the advice here, it's all good stuff. I know GB isn't a great bit of software (I used to use Reason 2.5 & Cubase 5.1 when I had a PC) but I've heard better results than what I've gotten. Reaper looks like a good bit of kit, so I'll give that a try. But I do need to get something decent like Logic or Ableton. I'll have a look at finding what places I can get some space to upload MP3s of files like cheddatom suggests (Reverbnation comes to mind) if anybody want's a mess with them. Cheers G

Cheers, That link gave for some good reading & shall have another go from scratch & see how things turn out. The Alesis HD does have an excellent sound quality, it's just too complex for it's own good & we lost stuff on it (the engineer said he's gonna get a tekky to try & get the other 3 tracks off it). I did read some stuff on finalising the mix using compression, eq & reverb & I put a touch of these onto the overall mix which has me wondering, if there is something peaking like an occasional drum, would this cause the compressor to keep the volume down? I could apply a touch of compression to all tracks individually to stop peaks & see if that will make a difference. G

My rock band recorded a few songs several months ago in a studio. We mic'd up the drum kit & the guitar amps & I DI'd straight from my amp to the mixer & recorded the instruments & then did a separate take for the vocals (so the vocal mic didn't get bleed). We went thru a mixer straight onto an Alesis HD recorder (A big complex heap of sh!te). I then got all the individual tracks & proceeded to mix them in Garageband & Audacity (it was losing top end when mixing down in GB) & have spent ages on these but they still don't sound right & not anything like we do when playing live or in rehearsals. Could anyone take a listen & tell me where I'm going wrong? I've heard loads of other folks stuff mixed in GB & it sounded good but I just can't seem to get this right & I'm wondering if it's just cause I've heard the songs so much. Here's our MySpace link, all 4 songs was done on the same day. http://www.myspace.com/frigorific It also seems to be a bit low in volume compared to other stuff too & I keep trying to get the volume up without peaking. Should I pop some compression on each track to level everything? The initial recordings I got was all really low in volume. Am I trying to polish a jobby & should we go to a different studio & redo it all? Cheers, G

I'd go just wearing speedos & goggles, & maybe flippers if it's raining.

Very nice indeed. On Bass Direct's website it says the rrp is just over £1400, but on Thomann's their price is over £1800! I understand that this might have something to do with € - £ exchange but £400 difference? WTF.
No, I'm absolutely wonderful at bass, so I decided that the larger guitar community should benefit from my greatness.
Fair enough. But the world does need more great bassists & there's already billions (in the astronomical term) of great guitarists (me being one of them). On another note about good service tho. I recently called DV247 for some advice on a couple of products & get a very good service & they price matched & then knocked the postage off. Sounds Live didn't have what I was looking for but I did try them as well.

Sound desk is a skill in itself, especially if the gitter is like the one in my rock band, can never play at a steady volume & constantly plays over the vocals instead of with them or between them, and then when it's time for a solo, he's run out of steam! He is good at hooklines & as he is really a folk gitterer we forgive him. But the singer is gonna get control of the volume pedal for him! :brow: I'm enjoying playing gitt on a couple of tracks in my altDot band (BigRoom) & have dropped bass in a couple more to get the singer/gitter to play banjo or trumpet (the ukeist is sh!te on gitt as has no dynamic concept, a bit like my rock gitter).

"Bass is cr*p", don't you mean you're cr*p at bass? I'm kinda the opposite from you, converted to bass from guitar (converted from keys to guitar before that) but I still play whatever instrument I can as it's good fun to be able to play several. I've looked at Soundslive before & never heard any bad reports about them so I may give them a try for my next purchase. I've no idea what that is yet tho!

Hi, I got a few books in the 80's about all sorts of techniques & one had Bill Sheehan talking about how he would put his middle finger over his index finger to tap as it would give more pressure onto the "tap". I used to do this but as I got better at the technique I found I crossed my fingers less & less. A lot of tapping in the vein of what Mr Hamm is doing requires turning the volume up louder than what you would have it for "normal" playing (you can see him do this on the Japan vid) as to hear the hammered on notes clearer with left & right hands & learn to have a more lighter touch than you would for most other styles. He's still some player! Hope this info assists you a little. G

I'd say sell the lot & buy a multi fx pedal  Only kidding. I would probably put the tuner before the akai if you're going into PA as well, this way if you want to mute then it's gonna mute the PA signal as well. As for where you put all the pedals, I'd mess about until you find the desired effect or one that you really like the sound of. This can take bloody ages tho hence your post I suppose.

Unfortunately I'm away on holiday for the last two weeks in April but I'll be up for the next one (hopefully many more to follow). Hope it all goes well & the weather's good for y'all, should be fun. G

I'm in agreement that some stuff sounds like a load of noodling & that sort of jazz does nothing for me either. My tastes in jazz are more the old crooners (& the new ones) or things like Madeleine Peyroux or even some Bella Fleck & the Flecktones (preferably with Wooton on bass). But then my tastes are a bit different. Films that make you think, food that makes you think and music that makes you think. However, there is nothing wrong with superhero movies, spicy food & groovy music as I am also partial to a bit of these as well. I suppose I like loads of stuff from trance to thrash, funk to punk & anything else that isn't mass produced to appeal to 12 year olds.

Old Radiovox valve amps have a great sound. Couldn't tell you the wattage or anything, but my bro has two & they sound brilliant & pretty loud too. they ain't bass amps tho.

I think you'll get a million different answers for this one. One man's finest could be another's sh!test. I haven't tried enough to give you an answer tho

Just had a wee look thru this & listened to some & there's some pretty good players on here in some pretty good bands. Mine's arn't great but we do enjoy what we do. Frigorifico is the Rock band that I'm in: http://www.myspace.com/frigorific BigRoom is the altDot band that I'm in: http://www.myspace.com/bigroomgb I play guitar in BigRoom as well as bass (the shame!).

I agree that jazz is like any other genre, some is good, some is pish. I watched "the Jazz singer", Neil Diamond's version not long ago & thought it was one of the worst films that I'd ever seen. Not because I don't like his songs (I like some, I don't like others), but because it was just plain rubbish. Bad acting, dire script & missed the genre of music by a mile, it was a waste of what coulda been a good remake. Just my opinion tho, a work colleague loves this film.

I can understand his logic. He wants the ad to stay on eBay but is advertising what he has in the title as opposed to the screw man who is advertising a full bass in the title.

One of my alltime favourite jazz songs. Excellent voice & even better bassline. Brilliant album too if you want to get into jazz. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tGbGUhYe0Ts Tried to get the youtube vid to embed but failed!
