  1. Could that be due to your amp/cab? A valve preamp isn’t gonna be any warmer than a good digital preamp. Maybe a more coloured cab would be better?

    best value DAW

I agree with Sibob about Ableton probably not being the best value for your needs. Though I have a friend who doesn't play electronic stuff & uses Ableton as a DAW with great results. I used to use Cubase, Reason & Reaper. All great in their own ways. I'm now a Logic user & love it, but I'm tempted to give Ableton a blast.
  3. What about a Kemper Profiler? https://www.kemper-amps.com/news/1/Bass-Rig-Pack-II Get a Valve power amp to finish it off.
  4. Warm soiled state? 💩 As per the other thread, digital modelling can accurately emulate a valve pre. The only part that can't be replicated is a valve power stage. It's hard to get the bounce of KT88s or 6550s digitally.
  5. If you like the sound you have, get another 2x10. It’ll give you more of the same, but a bigger sound. If you add a different cab, it’s gonna sound different & you won’t know if it’s gonna be any good until you’re at the gig.
  6. Do they show that sort of stuff on Youtube? Maybe better with Pornhub?
  7. Anouthe bit of software worth a look is Ableton. You get a lite version of it for free. If you’re doing this just to chuck ideas down, then just use your hifi to play through. If you’re going to be making demos or producing music, then a set of studio headphones, monitors or both. For headphones, superlux 688b are great value, though after 3 years my plug has become iffy (but they were only £30).
  8. From the feedback on here, Focusrite make decent interfaces & Dannybuoy’s 2i2 sounds like a safe bet. I looked at several interfaces & opted for the Native Instruments KA6, as it had more of what I need. It’s a solid built device with 4 audio inputs, midi in/out & spdif in/out, all in a compact package. Sound quality is very good too.
  9. If you've used a DAW (recording software) before, then try all 3. If you haven't, then choose one & learn it. They're all good. If Traction comes with the drums, then I'd go with that one. Reaper has a bit of a learning curve & set up process & doesn't come with much in the way of instruments & fx, but once you learn it, it's pretty good. You can get instruments & effects for any DAW (known as VSTs). You'll find plenty of free ones as well as ones you have to pay for.
  10. GripFill FTW! I put the hook side on the pedals. My Diago board is covered in loop inside.
  11. The 2049 soundtrack is excellent. They did a brilliant job of it. I'll need to have a listen to Woob. Really liking Solar Flares.
  12. I do a harmonic test starting with the D & G strings & work my way down, then I tune if needed & check the pitch of a string with the tuner. If I'm putting strings on the bass, then I always choose the middle strings first & then the 2 outside ones (no particular order).
  13. I tried that once. Midway through the first song, my jeans fell down.
  14. Avoid drilling holes in the back of your bass... Use self tapping screws.
  15. You could get some heavy contact film & cut it to size to put over the back of the bass.
  16. I was just about to report ped for being overbearing on making us use the "Report" button. Looks like I'll have to report you & Dad too!
  17. Cheers. They sound right up my street. I’m big into ambient electronica stuff such as Orb, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis (Blade Runner is possibly my fave album) & so on. Ive had a little listen to Modeselektor & Aparat, but not had a proper listen as yet.
  18. Just discovered the House & Garage Orchestra about a month ago. Fantastic stuff! And despite a friend telling me a few years back to listen to them, I've only recently took notice of Moderat.
  19. Most of what are called "Classic Albums" passed me by. I maybe got about a dozen or so. Just googled "Classic Albums" & there's a page with 28 "classics. I've had 5 of them.
  20. I’m another who likes to go & have a friendly chat with the soundy. Not just for the gig, but to expand my contacts, as you never know when they might be putting something on in the future, etc. I’ve had it good so far, as every sound guy has said they love my tone & hardly touch the EQ, just pop some compression on it. I feel for Ruck having the soundy make a mess. Maybe he’s a dub reggae soundy?
  21. Usually part of a couple of the set’s bass lines, starting with my clean sound & then using whatever fx I’ll be using. No point playing something that’s not gonna sound like any of what’s to come.
  22. From my understanding, a valve pre can be accurately emulated digitally, so it’s probably more of an image thing. It’s the power stage that cannot be emulated as good, especially when it comes to pushing the tubes hard. If there’s such a thing, I’d look at a digital pre & valve power, though I don’t know that it would give any weight benefit. I’ve got all valve, but would happily go back to all digital.
  23. Bass is where it’s at for me. It does synth bass with more expression than you can get from the bass guitar.
