  1. Avoid drilling holes in the back of your bass... Use self tapping screws.
  2. Does that include you? 🧐 😉
  3. You could get some heavy contact film & cut it to size to put over the back of the bass.
  4. I was just about to report ped for being overbearing on making us use the "Report" button. Looks like I'll have to report you & Dad too!
  5. Cheers. They sound right up my street. I’m big into ambient electronica stuff such as Orb, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis (Blade Runner is possibly my fave album) & so on. Ive had a little listen to Modeselektor & Aparat, but not had a proper listen as yet.
  6. Just discovered the House & Garage Orchestra about a month ago. Fantastic stuff! And despite a friend telling me a few years back to listen to them, I've only recently took notice of Moderat.
  7. Most of what are called "Classic Albums" passed me by. I maybe got about a dozen or so. Just googled "Classic Albums" & there's a page with 28 "classics. I've had 5 of them.
  8. I’m another who likes to go & have a friendly chat with the soundy. Not just for the gig, but to expand my contacts, as you never know when they might be putting something on in the future, etc. I’ve had it good so far, as every sound guy has said they love my tone & hardly touch the EQ, just pop some compression on it. I feel for Ruck having the soundy make a mess. Maybe he’s a dub reggae soundy?
  9. Usually part of a couple of the set’s bass lines, starting with my clean sound & then using whatever fx I’ll be using. No point playing something that’s not gonna sound like any of what’s to come.
  10. From my understanding, a valve pre can be accurately emulated digitally, so it’s probably more of an image thing. It’s the power stage that cannot be emulated as good, especially when it comes to pushing the tubes hard. If there’s such a thing, I’d look at a digital pre & valve power, though I don’t know that it would give any weight benefit. I’ve got all valve, but would happily go back to all digital.
  11. Bass is where it’s at for me. It does synth bass with more expression than you can get from the bass guitar.
  12. That's pretty accurate. Lots of people can play a couple of Hendrix songs (me included). He was a pioneer in his time, but had someone else been that pioneer & Hendrix was born a decade later, I doubt he'd be anywhere near as famous. Here's a product demo for those who maybe take offense to guitar emulation 😂 ...
  13. Wow! That's a bargain. If I didn't have one already, I'd take it off you.
  14. No offense taken. At the end of the day, it's what you're happy with. We'll just chuck some alernatives in there too just in case there's something you've not thought of. I played through a 15" for years. Then I went for 2 15"s. Then I went 4x10, then 2x10 & now 4x10 again (I'm planning on getting something that's more manageable though).
  15. Speaker diameter has no bearing on how punchy the sound will be. I’m not saying don’t get a 1x15”, but don’t use speaker diameter as a restriction, it’s like saying the tuners on your bass have to be gold. Have you considered a good 2x12? They can certainly move some air.
  16. Question yourself. Why does it have to be a 15" driver? Why do you need it to be either 5.3Ω or 4Ω? If it's in a studio, would a 1x10 or 1x12 be better suited?
  17. You're missing my entry (maybe for the best). 😆
  18. Got mine done. https://soundcloud.com/bassg/crocketts-theme Just redone it, but the link doesn't seem to show.
  19. Oooh! I’m going to be entering this month!!! It’s a classic instrumental piece by Jan Hammer that I’ve been redoing using mostly Roli sounds. Needs a couple of tweaks, but should be done before the weekend.
  20. If she's got a computer, then you'd be better looking at a midi keyboard. You can get some decent VSTs for free. £100 isn't gonna get you much, but you'll get more in a controller & you can get a new Nektar 61 key in budget. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EN0FWUU/ref=asc_df_B01EN0FWUU57526631/?tag=googshopuk-21&creative=22110&creativeASIN=B01EN0FWUU&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310844805963&hvpos=1o6&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7732311248396611418&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046981&hvtargid=pla-428767581274&th=1&psc=1
  21. I had Tomastik Infeld Jazz flats on my fretted Ibby for about 2-3 years & then somehow managed to snap the D string!?! They're great feeling strings & sound fantastic. I was reluctant to shell out again for another set (couldn't find a single string for sale), so after having a bleather on here, I went for a set of D'Addario Chromes. The Chromes are a brighter sounding string than the TIs were & have a little more tension, but they're still great strings. Here's a track I did for a BC comp with a mix of finger style & slapping.
  22. I've not found 2 octaves to really be a restriction for basslines. There's usually a transpose button to let you shift octaves easily enough. I use a Roli Rise 25 for synth bass duties (it's just a controller, so it gets used with a macbook) & can't reccomend it enough, though it's probably a bit over your budget. I went from an 88 key to the 25 key & use the Rise more than the S88 could have ever been used by me. The Moog Phatty (& the variants of it) are fantastic for bass. I have a friend with one & it's one amazing bit of kit. Just does synth bass like a synth bass should do & sounds fantastic doing it. You might well find that whatever synth you get, your requirements may change once you get to know what you can do with a synth. This is my set up (the amp & cab are not part of my rig, I DI'd for this gig).
  23. 2 things worth doing & they've both been mentioned. Find a new genre or two & learn a new instrument. I find writing/composing/remixing music on my DAW means I have to write & record a bassline. I don't always use bass guitar for this, as often I'll use the Seaboard to play some synth bass. The good thing about this is I can transfer it to bass, meaning I'll come up with basslines that I wouldn't have on the stringed thing (I'm not saying they're always good, but they're different & often fun to play). A tutor is a good move too.
