  1. That's pretty accurate. Lots of people can play a couple of Hendrix songs (me included). He was a pioneer in his time, but had someone else been that pioneer & Hendrix was born a decade later, I doubt he'd be anywhere near as famous. Here's a product demo for those who maybe take offense to guitar emulation 😂 ...
  2. Wow! That's a bargain. If I didn't have one already, I'd take it off you.
  3. No offense taken. At the end of the day, it's what you're happy with. We'll just chuck some alernatives in there too just in case there's something you've not thought of. I played through a 15" for years. Then I went for 2 15"s. Then I went 4x10, then 2x10 & now 4x10 again (I'm planning on getting something that's more manageable though).
  4. Speaker diameter has no bearing on how punchy the sound will be. I’m not saying don’t get a 1x15”, but don’t use speaker diameter as a restriction, it’s like saying the tuners on your bass have to be gold. Have you considered a good 2x12? They can certainly move some air.
  5. Question yourself. Why does it have to be a 15" driver? Why do you need it to be either 5.3Ω or 4Ω? If it's in a studio, would a 1x10 or 1x12 be better suited?
  6. You're missing my entry (maybe for the best). 😆
  7. Got mine done. https://soundcloud.com/bassg/crocketts-theme Just redone it, but the link doesn't seem to show.
  8. Oooh! I’m going to be entering this month!!! It’s a classic instrumental piece by Jan Hammer that I’ve been redoing using mostly Roli sounds. Needs a couple of tweaks, but should be done before the weekend.
  9. If she's got a computer, then you'd be better looking at a midi keyboard. You can get some decent VSTs for free. £100 isn't gonna get you much, but you'll get more in a controller & you can get a new Nektar 61 key in budget. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EN0FWUU/ref=asc_df_B01EN0FWUU57526631/?tag=googshopuk-21&creative=22110&creativeASIN=B01EN0FWUU&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310844805963&hvpos=1o6&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7732311248396611418&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046981&hvtargid=pla-428767581274&th=1&psc=1
  10. I had Tomastik Infeld Jazz flats on my fretted Ibby for about 2-3 years & then somehow managed to snap the D string!?! They're great feeling strings & sound fantastic. I was reluctant to shell out again for another set (couldn't find a single string for sale), so after having a bleather on here, I went for a set of D'Addario Chromes. The Chromes are a brighter sounding string than the TIs were & have a little more tension, but they're still great strings. Here's a track I did for a BC comp with a mix of finger style & slapping.
  11. I've not found 2 octaves to really be a restriction for basslines. There's usually a transpose button to let you shift octaves easily enough. I use a Roli Rise 25 for synth bass duties (it's just a controller, so it gets used with a macbook) & can't reccomend it enough, though it's probably a bit over your budget. I went from an 88 key to the 25 key & use the Rise more than the S88 could have ever been used by me. The Moog Phatty (& the variants of it) are fantastic for bass. I have a friend with one & it's one amazing bit of kit. Just does synth bass like a synth bass should do & sounds fantastic doing it. You might well find that whatever synth you get, your requirements may change once you get to know what you can do with a synth. This is my set up (the amp & cab are not part of my rig, I DI'd for this gig).
  12. 2 things worth doing & they've both been mentioned. Find a new genre or two & learn a new instrument. I find writing/composing/remixing music on my DAW means I have to write & record a bassline. I don't always use bass guitar for this, as often I'll use the Seaboard to play some synth bass. The good thing about this is I can transfer it to bass, meaning I'll come up with basslines that I wouldn't have on the stringed thing (I'm not saying they're always good, but they're different & often fun to play). A tutor is a good move too.
  13. It’s fantastic. It’s equally as fun to play too. 😀
  14. That's twice today that someone has mentioned Thomas Dolby. I'm off to dig out my old CDs... Hang on, I've not got a CD player! Apple music should have some TD. 😎 On the subject of great synth basslines on bass, have a blast of 24k Magic by Bruno Mars. Fantastic bassline. I learned it on the Seaboard & then transferred it to bass. I'll video it sometime.
  15. Wynona's Big Brown Beaver by Primus is an immensely fun song to play, especially the instrumental parts of the song.
  16. The only reason I’ve missed the past few comps is because I had written songs using panpipes & bagpipes. Liking this month’s inspiration. 😎
  17. I'd tell your luthier friend to stick to making things with wood. Have you heard the GK in a live situation and did it do what you wanted it to? Can you add a 2nd 1x12 to it if you need to? I'd try as many rigs as you can & get the one You like the best. It's been mentioned many times on here, but watts are not how you measure volume. Decibels & SPL should give you a better indication.
  18. I too was hoping to have an entry. It’s not gonna happen, too much on just now. ☹️
  19. I finally got round to watching The Greatest Showman about a month ago & it's possibly the best musical I've watched (I don't usually dig musicals). Some great sounding bass parts in there too. Every year, the church I go to has a musical production through December for the run up to Christmas & this year I've been asked to play bass. 3 of the songs they've chose to include are The Greatest Show, This Is Me & From Now On (all from The Greatest Showman). I've just got round to looking at playing The Greatest Show & I have to say, it's probably one of the most fun songs to play that I've played in ages. Nice tight thump with the kick to start with, builds with some octave & 3rd lifts & then a grooving (if predictable) chorus. Then there's the fills in it. They're just so satisfying for some reason. I have to say, I find the simple & predictable arrangement makes it more fun to play as I can concentrate on being tight in the groove and nailing those runs. Now I'm looking forward to learning the other two songs. I've listened to them, but not played them yet. Anyone else had a blast at any of the songs?
  20. If it’s a 2 driver combo or cab, then it’s usually 2 16 ohm drivers to make 8 ohm. But then it could be just one 8 ohm driver or 4 32 ohm drivers.
  21. I’ve always heard good things about the Focusrite interfaces. I use a Native Instruments KA6 & cannot fault it. I believe that there are some preamps out there that have XLR and usb outs.
  22. I had the markbass cmd102p. Probably the best combo I’ve ever played, let alone owned.
  23. That does look uncomfortable & it is awkward for me to do (I just tried it), but then I do the involentary "square pinky" when I'm playing. No idea why & I don't feel any discomfort.
