Fan to musician - The significance of genre.
xgsjx replied to arthurhenry's topic in General Discussion
I think "almost" anything guitar based (rock, punk, blues, folk, indie, etc) has more fans playing that genre than something like Electronica or RnB due to the guitar being seen as an easier & "cooler" alternative to just about any other instrument. Hence there being 1000 guitarists to each other instrument player. Drummers & bassists all seem to be able to play other genres such as the afore mentioned or even jazz or DnB, but very few guitarists seem to have that ability (maybe 1 in 1000). -
There’s a patch that’s called something like “memories of analogue”, it’s a fantastic sound. Very BladeRunneresque.

Ooh, that I need to do. I haven’t played along with that for decades!

I would think it should work okay.

I used my Rise 25 at a gig on 1st July. Forgot to switch the GoPro on, so caught none of it in action. Now that I've moved house, I'm gonna be looking for a band where I can make it integral to the sound. It's great that most of Logic's instruments work really well with it too.

I sold an 8 year old 24" iMac for £200 a couple of years ago to a chap on here. Even by today's standards, it had a decent spec. Try selling an 8 year old PC. Macs have always seemed overpriced when next to a PC, but I've found them very reliable. That's something I'm happy to pay extra money for.

It's good to see something other than black. Just about every piece of backline seems to come with the Ford Model T colour guide. I think these could go up above the streets & houses.

The LM is a good head.

Double the Watts gets an increase in volume of about 2-3db. You haven't said how many ohm your cab is. If it’s 8 ohm, then you’re going to get about 2/3 of the amp’s power at full whack. But the chances are, you’ll never be running your amp at full tilt. If you do, then a 2nd 2x10 would make more sense than a 4 ohm 2x10. having had a MB 2x10, I know they’re not shy when it comes to decibels. 😎

I don't mind a decent guitar solo. It's noodling constantly that gets on my thrupneys.

I’d have thought if the lines are moved down to where to place your finger, it would have made sense to have the markers on the lines.

Here’s me 1/2 way through writing an awesome highland jig with bagpipes, panpipes and a harmonica solo in the middle. Went well with the pic too. Ah well, back to the drawing board.

A thread to show off your complete bass creation station. The full set up. Everything you use to make the low end in one pic. I'll start with mine from a gig I did on Sunday afternoon. I used fold back & PA rather than any backline. It sounded pretty good too! I'm surprised this hasn't been done before. I did a search & couldn't find anything.

To nail Chris’ sound, you’re gonna need not just a few pedals, but some outboard stuff & a sound engineer too. 😂 I found I can get close enough with octave, dirt & chorus, but YMMV.

Not watched the video, But that's an Industrial Radio bass. I believe they're an Australian company. There's a duo called Men Imitating Machines, the bassist has used one for a few years now.

A friend of mine who's an analogue junkie has a fine selection of synths. He's got a little phatty, which is amazing at bass lines & so easy to play & twiddle knobs. He's also got an Electron Analogue Keys, sold a Prophet 8 to get a Prophet 12, had a Korg Monologue & MS20 (which he bought another & then later sold again), a Teenage Engineering OP-1 (which is his 2nd) & an Akai MPC. I need to pay him a visit again soon.

Moog sub 37. Not better, not worse, different. Electron analogue keys is worth a look too.

Utter crap. That's what sort of music we play. It's good fun to play, but it sounds bloody awful. Still no idea why we're doing a gig, but it'll be good to see folks faces.

I've just moved house & working every day until Thursday (including today), but as soon as I get a chance, I shall. Better still... I'll use it for next month's compo comp. Here's my previous set up (along with some other bassists), I'm the one wearing the red t-shirt with the yellow background & the pedals are on floorboards...

I personally prefer an expression pedal over the HH. I feel I have more control whilst I'm playing. I used to have a Moog MF-101 LPF, which is one pedal I wish I hadn't sold. It just adds so much tone. I loved those who said "Oooh, it's not true bypass, it'll be a tone sucker", but I never corrected them, I thought they'd be better off with what they have. lol Chorus at the end of the path is good for movement. Gives a similar sound to having 2 oscillators. Better still is if you can split the signal. Put octave through to the chorus & then the other side put your dirt & filter, then sum them back together.

😂 I don't know about me making it unscathed either! Current set up is MXR BOD > PSK SDS-2 (80s distortion) > SA BEF Pro (with hot hand) > Boss CE-2 chorus. I'm not getting use of the HH in the current band (they're "Classic Crock").

I play bass through octave, dirt, filter & chorus for many synth sounds, but I also have a Roli Rise playing either the Moog Model D app on the iPhone or connected to the macbook playing several other synths. It's not a problem to switch between instruments mid song.

I'm gonna have to give this month's a miss. Moving house has taken all my time for this month. I'll be having a listen to the entries though & voting for my faves.

Cheers Paul. 😃 I didn't know that the Seaboard Block had smaller keys than the Rise. The Rise keys are about the same as what a regular keyboard would be. Give it a couple of weeks & you'll find you use the lines to identify the "black" keys & know where C is. It soon becomes like a keyboard, where you can play it without looking, though in MPE, it's like a fretless - you need to play fairly accurate. But you can adjust the glide so it stays on the note even if you're slightly off it. I'm seriously considering getting the Rise 49, but I really want a new bass too.
