  1. Polytune is a great pedal. Another good cheap option is the Korg Pitchblack Poly. Fairly small & about £50 new. There's also the Pitchblack Mini for @ £55.
  2. The context that the OP put makes it sound like it's in relation to a band setting. If it's just bass alone, then you're not going to know whether that B & D is the start of Bm or not, you gonna just have to sit back & enjoy the music.
  3. Unison? Write it in TAB
  4. This might be of use to you...
  5. Yes. It could be root & 3rd, but if there's another musician in the band, even a singer, then they're going to complete the chord.
  6. I've heard bands that don't use samples that have no artistic content!

I'll be picking based on both looks and sound. It's on hold just now, so the criteria may change.
  8. I bought a Source Audio BEF Pro from Henry yesterday. Very easy & friendly to deal with. Great communication. It arrived this morning! How rapid is that!!! Well packaged too & in excellent condition. If Henry is selling anything & it's something you want, feel confident in dealing with this fine chap. I'd happily buy from him again.
  9. Bill is one of the few folk who has one. One certain BC member bought up loads of them & now they’re hard to get.
  10. They’ve held it steady in this thread for some time now.
  11. If you played bass in an electronica, drum n bass or dubstep band, then you'll find sustain is a very useful thing. It's quite common in those genres for the bassist to play a note & have it last for a few bars whilst playing about with filters & other effects. Jolly good fun, old bean.

I've played a rise a few times now & not just in a music shop. One of my friends has one that he controls his various analogue synths with. It's a fantastic piece of kit. He got the Rise 25 & wishes he would have got the 49. I wish I would have got the Rise 25 instead of the NI S88. I've used the damn thing twice.

The monitors are on hold for the mo... We're putting the house up for sale in the next few months, so there's no point in buying monitors until I move. So I might have better funds or even better flexability! I've not got space to get my keys out, so thinking about selling them & getting a Roli Rise.
  14. Makes you wonder how the Blurred lines/ Marvin Gaye got anywhere. Yes they have a similar sound & feel, but so did just about every RnR song from the 60s & every Motown song from the 70s. Sound & feel. That is all. I've been lisening to Bear's Den & the album sounds like loads of 80s stuff. I think they're gonna be f**ked!
  15. It's pretty much as much proof as you need that watts don't = volume. Those saying "I need a 500 watt amp" are fooling themselves.
  16. I was never a fan of gold hardware, but on the right bass it can make it.

    best value DAW

Reaper is good. Can be a bit of a pain to set up to start with, but once you get your head round it, it's just like any other DAW. If you've got a Mac, get Garageband. It's the free version of Logic. You can then upgrade it to Logic if you find yourself using it & want the extra features.
  18. I'm gonna put my cap on & hopefully this month I'll be the champignon.

    best value DAW

Depending on what you're using it for, I'm not sure that Reaper is better value than Reason. The DAW itself is just $60, but Reason does come with a load of instruments & effects, Reaper doesn't. I think it comes with 2 instruments.

    best value DAW

I used to have Reason up until 2.5. Found it a very easy DAW to use & like Skol303, I loved that you can flip it round & route cables. I've had several DAWs since then & if you have a Mac, then the best VFM DAW is Logic. You get a bunch of brilliant synths, drum machines & effects as well as a shed load of loops & samples. All for £150! I'm not saying it's the best DAW (though it is my fave), the best is the one that works for You.

That's actually not a bad idea. I'll discuss that with the Mrs. I've already got a good set of headphones. I want a 1/2 decent set of monitors.

So do I, but for me to have a home "studio" there has to be a compromise. Though I don't understand why there's not much of a selection. Why do so many manufacturers forget about looks? I mean, those Genelec 8010As have a great bit of design in the base, but the rest is modelled on a milk carton. The KRK Rokit series sound great, but again, it looks like the looks department has been given to Justin Bebier. The majority though just look like black boxes. Why?

I'd like a pair of Genelec, but I don't think the Mrs would be happy with them - even in white. I like the JBL LSR 305s, but they got a No!
  24. There’s also the Markbass Traveller series cabs too (something in the name).
  25. I might have to do mine solely on the MacBook. Im redecorating the house & there’s not mush room to get my keys & instruments set up.
