1.
I always feel like that whenever a Squier JV comes up for sale. Lovely basses for £199 (original price), not good value at all for the ridiculous price they go for on here and eBay etc.
I get what you mean about Squier. Nearly choked on my tea when browsing the ads. Been having a look for a fretless 5 & saw one of these for about £500 on Thomann. How does the V7 sound quality wise? Is it a really good sounding instrument live, or is it just oaky? I see they also do a M7 & a V9 which are both a bit dearer. I've not had a look at those yet, but I think some investigating needs to be done by me. The other basses I've been looking at are the Ibanez SRF705 & the SRH505F & the Rockbass Alien. Anyone tried these?
2. My first thought was Psycho Killer, but then I thought it's simple, but I've heard Tina play it a few different ways & it still sounded good (it even sounds good with no bass line). So my vote goes for Slippery People. That's a great simple bassline that, if changed, wouldn't be as good.
3.
Would this be of help https://www.kompoz.com/music/
I'll have a closer look at that. It looks a bit like Blend.io which I'm already using for remixing people's songs. I think I might have answered my own question. Blend used to use Dropbox for sharing files, but now has it's own upload space. What about online DAWs, such as Ohm Studio? I'm the only one with a DAW just now. The drummer used to have Cubase, but when he changed PCs, he couldn't find the discs (he is gonna see if he can download it & if there's a way to retrieve his license). The guitarist & singer don't have DAWs & have never had one. I was thinking Reaper & giving them both a run through on how to use it.
4. For home use, I'd get either a 1x12 or a 2x10 and whatever amp head you fancy. Then for bigger gigs, you can add a 2nd cab.
5. You mean like, a metronome? I use Guitar Toolkit. Has a metronome, a tuner, chord charts, scales & can be used for loads of different instruments.
6. What Chris says. Try, if like, buy.
7. I had a Cobra 90 watt head. Also had a Stingray Lead, which was 150w & had a built in spring reverb. That was a big long amp head!
8. They both sound very different, so I would go with the one you prefer the sound of.
9. Moog MF-101 can do it if you make up a TRS lead that swaps over polarity. You take the lead from Env out to Cut off CV in.
10. It depends if you've bought it as an instrument or an ornament. I don't have any ornaments & if I had the money for a pre CBS, I'd buy a Ritter & gig it. The dad in law bought a rather nice Lowden O35 40th not so long ago. Cost over £5k & he plays it regularly at the church & local folk club.
11. I used to play in a band that played US folk & Americana. Played it on my Ibanez Soundgear & never looked or felt out of place. The pedalboard however, may have looked a bit out of place though & the sounds certainly didn't always sound like bass guitar. But it was great fun.
12. I've got a 4x10 Classicline that I bought of Stealth on here, which is a nice cab. Lovely retro look & he put nice big casters on it to make it an easy move.
13. It should be fine. My last PC had a much lower spec & ran Cubase 5 (though that was over a decade ago & it was high spec'd at the time).
14. My church tried bluetooth IEM. Latency makes it unusable. What about Wifi? Anyone know what the latency is like there?
15.
What, hello , did I miss something
zzzzz
16.
I started listening to this and I fell into a deep trance when I came to.... I was standing outside my local mosque. Powerful stuff.
I often seem to be able to write music that put's people to sleep. I don't know if that's a good thing or not!
17.
I don't look like this, but my hair once did :-0
Who said you could post a pic of me in my teens!!!
18. I'm in... https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/pyramids Found inspiration from it quite easily & tried to take it from a camel rider's perspective.
19. Good point being made about the other members being the main obstacle. At present, the idea is to have somewhere we can write the songs & then bring them to rehearsal to play. That's not to say as things progress, this could be a good way of doing demos.
20.
PS: if this thread takes off I'm stealing it and moving it to the Recording forum
Cheers Paul. I was originally going to post it in the recording forum, but then I thought more people might see it here. Do feel free to move it if you like.
21. My band only get to jam about 1-2 times every month, mainly due to us all working different shifts. This got me thinking, what about doing the songwriting at home & collaborating online in our own time. Not having done this before, I'm not quite sure the best way to go about this. I have Logic Pro X, but not sure what the rest of the band use, but I'm sure they could download Reaper or something similar. What's the best way to transfer files? WAVs could be quite big for email & I've not much dropbox room left. What other online options for file sharing are there? I'm hoping this thread can not only help me, but be a good place for people to share ideas & new methods as they come out.
22. I was going to suggest maybe looking at Barefaced's 6x10, it's not too heavy & might be tall enough for you, but then I thought the answer might actually be iem & get a good preamp or amp modeller. You can even put the cab money towards band PA if needed.
23. I've had this with 4 singists so far. First one kept missing rehearsals. So he got the sack. 2nd one - "Yeah, I'll let you know when I can make it". For 2 1/2 months we'd ask him each week if he could make it. Some weeks we'd send him message & he'd not get back to us. Never got to a jam, so he was let go. 3rd one had a local add up looking for musicians, but after contacting him he decided that he wouldn't be able to commit as he had a lot on (which is fair enough & I'm glad he did this at the start, rather than messing us about). 4th one turned up for audition, seemed to go quite well. A few days later he emailed saying that he felt out of his depth & wasn't going to bother being a singer & stick with guitar (again, fair enough). It's so damn hard to get a committed reliable musician. The guitarist is gonna try his hand a singing & we'll be a 3 piece. The best bit... We've got a gig on the 25th of this month & only a couple of the songs have lyrics.
24. I had a TE 4x10 combo. The only heft was the weight of the damn thing. Markbass 2x10 combo was louder, sounded way better & was a damn sight lighter too. I've now got a big all valve Radiovox head & a EBS 4x10, but would happily go back to the Markbass rig.
25. Here's my entry. The idea that I got from the pic was that's the final move of the dance. The "Intro" of this track is meant to be the ending of the song they danced to & this is the sounds from that suspension, dipping into a completely different world. https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/she-danced Had to quickly finish it as I'm now off. Adios.
