1.
Orange parabolic 2x15 (two 15's mounted back to back firing up and down). Wonderful cab (though pretty damned rare).
& from what I've read on here, pretty pointless & would have been as well being a 1x15.
2.
@xgsjx Here's the thing. People have said (and my understanding is limited) that running my 350w head at 4 ohms into a 8 ohm cab will half (I know this is no scientific ratio;) giving me 175w potential. Now I understand that watts are not equal to sound pressure but there seems a minimal reduction considering the decrease in power. If it is only 3db difference then it's no big deal..but would it be only 3db?
Yes, it would only be 3db. 8Ω load usually pulls a max of @ 2/3 of the amp's total watts, so that would probably be about 200-220w. You're only gonna hit the max watts with the occasional spike from your playing at volume or when the amp is near clipping & you're playing as loud as you can without things sounding nasty. Muzz's suggestion of a Barefaced cab is good advice. Small, light and loud. The Two10 is available in 4Ω or 12Ω, the Compact & Super Compact are both 8Ω. Talking of Barefaced, here's an article on Alex's page tht's worth a read... http://barefacedbass.com/technical-information/mythbusters1.htm
3.
Thanks for the input guys, but getting a single 4ohm cab at present just makes sense. I want to hop on and off trains and buses without and don't want to give myself a hernia (even with trolley) and the stress. Secondly I live in a small apartment and I have no space for 2 cabs. I'm gonna be a 1 cab man (for now;)
If it's a 2x12, then you are kinda limited to 4Ω cabs. If it's a 1x12 or a 1x or 2x10, then that's not sensible. A 4Ω cab will only give 3db more than it's 8Ω equivalent, which in the real world, you'll struggle to notice & the only thing you'll be doing is putting more current through your amp & shortening it's life for no good reason.
4. It really depends on personal preference & what You like the sound of. If you want to keep the orange colour, then Matamp make cabs in any colour you want. If it was me, my prefernces would be to try Markbass, Barefaced, Bergantino, Vanderkley & EBS. Though I'd still be trying others out too.
5. Don't do it! You'll cause the moon to go black in America & then the world will end!!! Watts are not how loud the rig will go. Volume is measured in decibels. If you play your bass with the input gain set just below clip & the volume about 1/4 way, the amp is not gonna put 175w to the cab. Change bass & you'll likely get a change in volume. What I'm saying is Ignore The Watts! They don't tell you what the decibels are. I wouldn't recommend a 4 ohm cab either, unless you were going for a 2x12. If you go for that 1x12 you mentioned, you can always add a 2nd for the bigger gigs. Buying 2nd hand means if you don't like what you buy, you can sell it without loss.
6.
You're not paying them enough in jelly babies. Try wine gums. Seriously though, I'm inclined to take lead myself in my next band rather than go through all of the time wasters like you are having to. It helped of course that Vintage TV interviewed Glenn Hughes the other night. He's an inspirational bass/vocalist.
Wine Gums! None of them have been worth that much! I think if I was to sing anywhere near as good as Glenn Hughes, I'd need all the things he said that wasn't good. I've emptied folk clubs with my singing voice! I know a singist who can't commit to a band. I'll see if he's interested in doing some covers for 1 evening. No commitments.
7. & if imgur starts messing up, try Flickr. Gonna have a look at imgbb myself.
8. Well what went from a very promisingly & Keen singer last week has ended in a no show this week. So with a gig next Friday, me & him are taking singing duties. Neither of us can sing, but we both sing better than the drummer! Bloody singists! That's 5 this year.
9. I think with everyone & their dog doing "Acoustic" during the 90s & 00s, it's been relegated to the folk clubs.
10. What's wrong with using your 300 watt amp? It shouldn't have any problems with how quiet you want to go.
11. BBC at it's best...
Other items banned from the festivals include weapons, fireworks, drones and glass.
No sh*t Sherlock!
12.
I always feel like that whenever a Squier JV comes up for sale. Lovely basses for £199 (original price), not good value at all for the ridiculous price they go for on here and eBay etc.
I get what you mean about Squier. Nearly choked on my tea when browsing the ads. Been having a look for a fretless 5 & saw one of these for about £500 on Thomann. How does the V7 sound quality wise? Is it a really good sounding instrument live, or is it just oaky? I see they also do a M7 & a V9 which are both a bit dearer. I've not had a look at those yet, but I think some investigating needs to be done by me. The other basses I've been looking at are the Ibanez SRF705 & the SRH505F & the Rockbass Alien. Anyone tried these?
13. My first thought was Psycho Killer, but then I thought it's simple, but I've heard Tina play it a few different ways & it still sounded good (it even sounds good with no bass line). So my vote goes for Slippery People. That's a great simple bassline that, if changed, wouldn't be as good.
14.
Would this be of help https://www.kompoz.com/music/
I'll have a closer look at that. It looks a bit like Blend.io which I'm already using for remixing people's songs. I think I might have answered my own question. Blend used to use Dropbox for sharing files, but now has it's own upload space. What about online DAWs, such as Ohm Studio? I'm the only one with a DAW just now. The drummer used to have Cubase, but when he changed PCs, he couldn't find the discs (he is gonna see if he can download it & if there's a way to retrieve his license). The guitarist & singer don't have DAWs & have never had one. I was thinking Reaper & giving them both a run through on how to use it.
15. For home use, I'd get either a 1x12 or a 2x10 and whatever amp head you fancy. Then for bigger gigs, you can add a 2nd cab.
16. You mean like, a metronome? I use Guitar Toolkit. Has a metronome, a tuner, chord charts, scales & can be used for loads of different instruments.
17. What Chris says. Try, if like, buy.
18. I had a Cobra 90 watt head. Also had a Stingray Lead, which was 150w & had a built in spring reverb. That was a big long amp head!
19. They both sound very different, so I would go with the one you prefer the sound of.
20. Moog MF-101 can do it if you make up a TRS lead that swaps over polarity. You take the lead from Env out to Cut off CV in.
21. It depends if you've bought it as an instrument or an ornament. I don't have any ornaments & if I had the money for a pre CBS, I'd buy a Ritter & gig it. The dad in law bought a rather nice Lowden O35 40th not so long ago. Cost over £5k & he plays it regularly at the church & local folk club.
22. I used to play in a band that played US folk & Americana. Played it on my Ibanez Soundgear & never looked or felt out of place. The pedalboard however, may have looked a bit out of place though & the sounds certainly didn't always sound like bass guitar. But it was great fun.
23. I've got a 4x10 Classicline that I bought of Stealth on here, which is a nice cab. Lovely retro look & he put nice big casters on it to make it an easy move.
24. It should be fine. My last PC had a much lower spec & ran Cubase 5 (though that was over a decade ago & it was high spec'd at the time).
25. My church tried bluetooth IEM. Latency makes it unusable. What about Wifi? Anyone know what the latency is like there?
