2.
I started listening to this and I fell into a deep trance when I came to.... I was standing outside my local mosque. Powerful stuff.
I often seem to be able to write music that put's people to sleep. I don't know if that's a good thing or not!
3.
I don't look like this, but my hair once did :-0
Who said you could post a pic of me in my teens!!!
4. I'm in... https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/pyramids Found inspiration from it quite easily & tried to take it from a camel rider's perspective.
5. Good point being made about the other members being the main obstacle. At present, the idea is to have somewhere we can write the songs & then bring them to rehearsal to play. That's not to say as things progress, this could be a good way of doing demos.
6.
PS: if this thread takes off I'm stealing it and moving it to the Recording forum
Cheers Paul. I was originally going to post it in the recording forum, but then I thought more people might see it here. Do feel free to move it if you like.
7. My band only get to jam about 1-2 times every month, mainly due to us all working different shifts. This got me thinking, what about doing the songwriting at home & collaborating online in our own time. Not having done this before, I'm not quite sure the best way to go about this. I have Logic Pro X, but not sure what the rest of the band use, but I'm sure they could download Reaper or something similar. What's the best way to transfer files? WAVs could be quite big for email & I've not much dropbox room left. What other online options for file sharing are there? I'm hoping this thread can not only help me, but be a good place for people to share ideas & new methods as they come out.
8. I was going to suggest maybe looking at Barefaced's 6x10, it's not too heavy & might be tall enough for you, but then I thought the answer might actually be iem & get a good preamp or amp modeller. You can even put the cab money towards band PA if needed.
9. I've had this with 4 singists so far. First one kept missing rehearsals. So he got the sack. 2nd one - "Yeah, I'll let you know when I can make it". For 2 1/2 months we'd ask him each week if he could make it. Some weeks we'd send him message & he'd not get back to us. Never got to a jam, so he was let go. 3rd one had a local add up looking for musicians, but after contacting him he decided that he wouldn't be able to commit as he had a lot on (which is fair enough & I'm glad he did this at the start, rather than messing us about). 4th one turned up for audition, seemed to go quite well. A few days later he emailed saying that he felt out of his depth & wasn't going to bother being a singer & stick with guitar (again, fair enough). It's so damn hard to get a committed reliable musician. The guitarist is gonna try his hand a singing & we'll be a 3 piece. The best bit... We've got a gig on the 25th of this month & only a couple of the songs have lyrics.
10. I had a TE 4x10 combo. The only heft was the weight of the damn thing. Markbass 2x10 combo was louder, sounded way better & was a damn sight lighter too. I've now got a big all valve Radiovox head & a EBS 4x10, but would happily go back to the Markbass rig.
11. Here's my entry. The idea that I got from the pic was that's the final move of the dance. The "Intro" of this track is meant to be the ending of the song they danced to & this is the sounds from that suspension, dipping into a completely different world. https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/she-danced Had to quickly finish it as I'm now off. Adios.
12. Have a look in the classifieds on here. What's your budget?
13.
Bon voyage, mon cher.
Cheers Monsieur
14. I'll try & get mine finished tomorrow morning, else I'll not get an entry as I'm off stateside for the rest of the mumph.
15. Can you play 12 bar blues at @ 180 bpm? That's most rock n roll songs covered. I enjoy playing the odd RnR song for fun, but I'd hate to be in an RnR band, just because so many of the songs are the same pattern & similar bass lines. If you like the songs, then go for it. It's band experience (something you can't learn at home).
16. I tried a Jaco next to a USA fretless Jazz & it was a slightly better instrument, but not £500 better.
17.
Most of the components are sourced from the Far East ( presumably due to lower labour costs) , so on that basis would probably rule it out for you anyway...!?
I'd still buy an amp with far east components if I had to, just that I prefer to keep more manufacturing jobs in the countries of origin (though many businesses don't seem to agree to that). The amp I have just now has nothing from the Far East in it, but it's older than most BC members.
18. All Right Now by Free
19. I'd rather pay the extra to have something made in the country of origin. I don't agree with exploiting countries for cheap labour & I'm already forced to pay for things that are made in the Far East as there's often no alternatives made closer to home.
20. Much of the above & to be made in Italy.
21.
Why? Just make sure your cab(s) are up to the job.
& the OP's Mesa is probably more than up to the job.
22. The only problem with that approach, is that you're potentially limiting the amps that you can use & may miss out on the one with the killer tone.
23.
I'd have thought it was the majority of cabs, at least if they're used alone.
Now you've got me worried! Think I'll go IEM as my cab is rated at 500w & I've no clue what my amp is (probably 200w as it has 4 KT88's in it).
24.
To be honest, Bill. I've never even heard of the 'myth of under powering', though as you describe it as a myth, I won't bother looking it up! I started playing in the 70s, when the accepted standard was a cab rated at double the potential output of the amp. I have learnt to accept a smaller safely margin than that over the years, but would never plug a cab into an amp capable of delivering more power than the cab could handle.
That could potentially rule out the majority of amps.
25. Only if you were very foolish. But then you could have as equally as catastrophic results being foolish if you had a 300w amp plugged into a 400w cab.
