1.
I may be wrong, but it sounds like you want to connect the amp's speaker out to the DI? not such a good idea for the amp or the DI.
That's exactly what I was wanting to do. I had originally started googling how to wire in a DI to the amp, possibly taking it just from the pre amp section. But the first thing I found was someone suggesting this to someone with a similar question... Parts needed: 1/4" jack one 100 ohm resistor one 2200 ohm resistor a few inches of wire two alligator clips 1. Take a 1/4" jack and install the 100 ohm resistor from hot to ground. Don't solder it yet. 2. Tie a few inches of hook up wire to the ground lead and solder it. You will simultaneously solder the 100 ohm resistor lead to ground. 3. Connect the 2200 ohm resistor to the hot lead and solder it. You will simultaneously solder the other lead of the 100 ohm resistor to hot. 4. On the free end of the 2200 ohm and also on the free end of the wire, solder an alligator clip You are done. Clip the two alligator clips to the + and - of a speaker and you now have a line out. This will drive almost anything. ( another amp, mixer, effects pedals, etc.) Then someone else suggested the passive di box idea. The thread never came to a comclusion though. I had considered getting an active di, as the rig should have no probs filling the church & the soundy could give me that bit extra clarity & oomph across the congregation.
2. I've got a valve amp which has no DI & instead of a "speaker" socket, it has 2 spring loaded terminals. So the speaker cable has a jack on one end only. Today after church, one of the MDs asked why I didn't bring my rig. I told him that it would need mic'd up. When I got home, it got me curious about getting it DIable. So, after a short google, I found this... http://www.palmergear.com/pan01.shtml Anyone tried one? Would this allow me to DI from the amp to the desk without issue? I don't see why it wouldn't, but as I've no experience of DI boxes, I thought where better to ask than here.
3. 2 days ago I was given 5 worship songs to learn for Sunday morning, which is generous as I usually get the set list either Thursday evening or some time on Friday. One of them I've heard before, the other 4 are unknown to me. I got given links to the Youtube vids & chord sheets as PDFs. One of the songs is not in the original key (it's up a 5th), but it's straightforward enough. As of last night, I can play all the songs comfortable with the PDFs in front of me. This evening & tomorrow evening I'll spend a couple of hours practicing them without the PDFs, so on Sunday I can enjoy playing. The good thing about these songs is that they only have about 4-5 chords & are easily broken down into Verse, Pre, Chorus, Bridge 1 & Bridge 2. Then you watch/listen to the MD for how the arrangement progresses. The other band that I'm in, well the songs are there, but not ready to gig.
4. Finished mine. I've tried to mix soft sounds with aggressive tones to try & get the feel of being in amongst the buildings. From the outset you get the first explosion & then what comes after. Then another explosion & the waiting for things to hit you, the fear builds & then boom. All hell breaks loose. Well, that's what I've tried for. Not sure if you'll see the same. But I've had fun making it. https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/ending
5.
Great basses imho.
That pic was taken 5 years ago. Sadly, it's still looking the same. But... I've now decided I'm going to start working on it & refinsh & rebuild it. Heck, I might even get a scratch plate made for it! I think I'll paint this one (rather than wood finish).
6.
Hi, I have a vox standard bass with a Di Marzio P pick up near the bridge...sounds great..quite similar in many ways to a J type in the same position.
I've got one of those. It was my 1st bass. Needs a bit of TLC, but I'm working on it. I've also defretted it. Still have the original hardware & pick ups too.
7. I use finger sweat. Occasionally I'll grab the string between my fingers & wipe or rub with the butt of the palm of my hand if needed. Oh, I use flatwound strings.
8. If the cab part of the combo isn't very efficient, then no amount of amp power is gonna make it any better without either A, spending more than your budget or B, ending up with something that weighs more than the current rig.
9. You do know watts are only a small part of the equation. My rig is probably only a 100w amp, but put through a 4x10 & it can shift some air. Going through PA, you could use my 30w combo & be heard by the band (I know this works as I have done it). Look at how many decibels the rig can muster, look at the spl, but don't think a 500 watt rig is gonna definitely be louder than a 100w one.
10. I wouldn't worry so much about the watts & more about the weight.
11.
Very clefer
Oooh, that's sharp.
12. Brilliant. I'll have to share that with the worship team.
13.
Probably not Why not slave another amp off of your MB head?
+1 to that idea. Get a 2nd LMIII & go stereo.
14.
Doubling the number of speakers gives you (all things being equal) +3dB , halving the power gives you -3dB.. So the nett effect is 0 dB..
8 ohm is usually @ 2/3 of the watts of 4 ohm (e.g. 500w at 4 ohm would be about 350w at 8 ohm). The other benefit of an 8 ohm load is less wear on the amp's components. This is coming from me, who runs a single 4 ohm cab. The other thing to take into account, the amp probably won't be turned up full tilt, so the 2 cabs would give a fuller sound.
15.
I use Ableton live and no way I'm getting Mac. It's overrated.....
Ableton live will happily run on a Macbook. My Mrs works in 2nd & 3rd line IT & for years and had the same sentiment as you towards Macs. 10 years ago I got an iMac & she said she'd never use it. After a few months I couldn't get her off the damn thing. She now has her own Macbook Pro. On paper they look like a poor spec, but that's always been the case. Me, I'll happily use anything that runs what I need it to. I'm not pro or anti any technology. I run Logic on an iMac & love it.
16. I hope he insured the bass for loss/damage whilst being shipped?
17. PC or Mac? Reaper is great on both PC & Mac, but if you have a Mac, then GarageBand is free & superb. Oh, & you could have a look at the sticky in the "recording" section. Full of helpful stuff.
18. Been listening to Jamiroquai's new album for the past 3 days, it's rather good.
19. Like I said in a different thread, some fx (such as dirt & modulation) are better placed directly between the bass & the amp & not in the loop. As you have pedals, you might find the they all sound better out of the loop, but it's down to personal taste. So you would have a cable running from bass to board (or go wireless to the board) & then a cable from board to amp. The only other cable would be to power the board.

FX Loop

Depending on your fx, you might find putting the fx directly between your bass & amp works better.
21.
They should have kept the VLE!
+ Wads! I found the VPF only of use at home to act kinda like a "Loudness" button did on the 80s Hifi. The VLE on the other hand, always came in handy at gigs. Maybe they're targeting the home player with this one? Still a nice looking rig.
22. Just a couple of watts might be fine if you have efficient cabs & the amp is capable. I've gigged with a Vox Venue 30 (1x12 combo) with a blues band years ago & whilst it's not been trouser flapping, I wasn't drowned out by the rest of the band.
23. I also bought a nice 4Ω 4x10 from these pages, but mine's an EBS. Sounds lovely hooked up to my Radiovox. I know later in the coming years I'll be replacing it with a 2x12 for better dispersion & easier to manage, but for now, none of that is an issue. To answer the OP, I believe the Barefaced 4x10 has much better dispersion due to 2 of the drivers being on a LPF. It's also a better engineered cab.
