1. I had a TE 4x10 combo. Was unimpressed. Replaced rapidly with a Markbass 2x10 combo which blew the TE away in every respect (weight, sound & decibels). My current rig however is a 4x10 with a valve amp & weighs more than my car!
2.
Ha! Me too
Great minds, eh!
3. Not long after seeing the pic, I saw the trailer for Stranger Things 2 & it's about everything getting turned upside down. So with that, I thought "80s sci-fi", so I give you Torino... https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/torino Enjoy!
4. Seriously, I need to get myself one. I've got the money, but there's a few things calling out for my hard earned (including the Mrs).
5. +1 to try before you buy. I tried 4 fretless Jazz basses out, all Fender. Out of the ones I tried, the Squier was the best value & with a better set of strings, would be a better bass than the MIM Fender. Wasn't as good as the USA one, but it is almost £1k cheaper.
6. We're all assuming that you play in a rock/indie/guitarist band. If you're a different genre, such as DnB or Jazz, you might want to keep all those lovely lows & mess about with the mids & low mids instead.
7. You could get a Squier Jazz & spend the extra on better pick ups, electrics & strings.
8. Isolation risers such as gramma pads or drum riser foam are advertised as being able to reduce boom (I bought a length of drum riser foam & chopped it in 1/2), but sitting the cab on a beer crate or a couple of bricks usually has the same effect. Like Lozz says, the best way to get rid of boom is to turn the lows down a bit.
9. PPAP - Pure cheese & makes my niece smile! Dancing Queen is the one song I can truly say that I detest. Abba were great musically, but that song does everything in the most irritating way.
10. The 2x12 will give you better dispersion than a 4x10. I bought an EBS CL 4x10 last week & used it last night. Sounded lovely. My choice would be the EBS.

Used the rig at volume tonight. Clean tone sounds superb with the rest of the band playing. I was expecting not to have much in the way of top end, but when I turned it up, the sound was crystal clear & tons of low end too! Sounds very different to the Markbass rig I used to have, but just as good. Tried a little dirt & it sits under the solo guitar nicely. I'm a happy chappy, even with the weight.
12. I haven't read all the posts, but here's my take... The band should say to the current bassist "get bass lessons & learn the songs by "x date" or we'll unfortunately need to replace you". If he refuses the idea of bass lessons, or doesn't make progress to play said bass lines, then you replace him.
13. Load up a DAW, put some beats down & play along making stuff up. This is a warmup & gives you a little fun just doing what You want to do (many of these mess about sessions are the fruits of songs to come). Then play some of the songs you want to practice.
14.
Here we go again... Swot Happens When One Listens To Jazz ... Once again, modest, but I'm quite pleased with it (fool that I am..! )
Nice. Jazz being my fave genre, I'm really digging this track.

It was regularly serviced by the chap who built it. He serviced it about 5-6 months ago & it hasn't been used since. The wee tag on top is his service report. Needs 2 valves replacing. He's since went into retirement.
16. Played a Breedlove electro acoustic fretless in NY that looked very similar to this. Possibly the nicest fretless I've played & if it were a 5 string, it'd be mine!

There's 2 of them. My brother has the other one. I found out that they were hand built in a shop called Magnum Sounds in Wishaw back in the 60s.

Here's my new rig. 4x10 cab courtesy of fellow BCer, Stealth. The amp weighs about 3 times as much as the cab. Might get a trolley for it!
19. I didn't read any of them.
20. Just bought a 4x10 off Simon & he is a pleasure to deal with. Arrived with good protective wrapping & wouldn't hesitate to do business with this fine BCer in future.
21. I told the Mrs that I needed to strengthen my fingering technique. She suggested a Gripmaster.
22. I'd play something that I'm already comfortable playing. For me, this might be Bach's cello suite BVV1007, Kurt Elling's The Waking or Beethoven's Fur Elise.
23. I heard Chas & Dave are collaborating with Dr Dre on a new track called Knees Up Muvvafu**a.
24. Hasn't Diana Ross already done a song for this? I've got an idea... I might try singing again!
