1. I agree. Though Prince's bassist plays a Ritter (he had the Cora designed for him) & the bassist from The Grateful Dead plays a Ritter Jupiter.
2.
If high-end/custom basses are so good, how come so many top professionals/bass gods use regular instruments? Perhaps they're in it more for the music than the gear?
£$ more like
3. If my Mrs had done the same, a Ritter Roya would be mine.
4. Well done chaps. I'm looking forward to this month's comp & seeing what the inspiration pic will be.
5. You should always carry a spare amp, cab, leads, bass & bassist. You never know what might fail.
6.
Thanks all for the information. It's been interesting to hear more about it. I'm quite surprised that there are none of you who are pros.
I hope to see you make an entry in the near future. This section of the forum is very helpful & it's where the comp starts out each month... http://basschat.co.uk/forum/10-recording/ At the top you'll see a great thread started by Skol303 that will help you with everything you need & if there's something you can't find, just ask.
7.
Cheers all this sounds good, i just like clang, and ringing trebly sound, can;t stand a low frequency thump.... i guess i'm more of a tenor/baritone player than a bass, don;t like 5 stringers either, gets too muddy for me... each to his own I guess!!
Are you sure you're not a guitarist?
8. That's me voted. Disappointed at first to see that I've inly got a couple of votes, but then on listening to the excellent work & how hard it was for me to choose 3, I'm happy to have more than 1 vote.
Thanks guys. It's good to get to learn more about you all.
My current set up is at home. I have an iMac running Logic X & a bunch of virtual instruments, a NI Komplete Audio 6 interface, a NI S88 keyboard controller, a Freshman electro acoustic & my Ibby bass. For this month's track I came up with the chord sequence & the synth sounds & put down the arrangement. I then added a little guitar playing (trying to get a western feel), played about with the synth filter as the track played & then laid down the bassline. Did a little basic mastering to glue it together & that was it.
9.
See post #3 ^^^^^^
Oops, completely missed that!
10. First thought of "DI virgin" was to stick the XLR somewhere you shouldn't. If you want a cheaper option for a DI box, then the Behringer BDI21 is apparently pretty good for £25 (plastic case to keep costs down) & I'm surprised Lozz never mentioned it as he was the one who brought it to my attention a few years back.
11. Brilliant, isn't it. THere's a few good versions from Daryl's House. This one's awesome too... http://youtu.be/GoXxdObGKuI
12. There's loads, but by far the coolest is Les Claypool. What tops it off is that he can play the amazing bassline & sing at the same time whilst making it look a doddle!
13. There's a place for people like you! Doom I go there occasionally too. (It's a link)
14.
Cheers for this can you recommend any good software , cheap to get me started please?
If you're using a Mac, then Garageband or Logic. They both have great amp sims. If you have bridge & neck pick ups on your bass, select the bridge pickup for a more burpy tone. Personally I don't get why you'd want a clangy bassless tone. Unless of course there's something else providing low end (like a low ringing kick).
15. Looking forward to having a listen to all of these. I've had a listen to some & the work is excellent. I think it's gonna be hard to chose just 3.
16. I can relate to harmonica. There's always been at least one in the household when I was growing up & try as I might, it sounded like a cat's chorus put through a harmoniser that couldn't pick up the notes. Every other instrument I've picked up, I can soon grasp.
17.
Completed 90% of mine but due to work I'll miss the deadline, so will have to go again next month.
If it's 90% done, get it entered.
18. The LMII has 2 jumper switches inside, one for changing the FX loop & the other is for the DI being pre or post EQ. I dare say the LMIII may be similar.

Here's a pic for scale next to a full size 88 key keyboard. And here's some interior views. I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
20. I've not used MainStage, but for looping things live, Ableton Live seems to be the daddy.
21. What he ^ says. Try it first & see if it's loud enough. If not, add it. The benefit of not adding it means you're running less power through the circuitry, meaning less wear to the components.
22. You could be a lesbian & dress as a woman dressed as a man. That might be okay.
