1. I had a shot of a Breedlove Fretless in Guitar Centre last month. Quite possibly one of the nicest fretless I've ever played & it was only $950.
2.
If that photo is not an Orange advert, it really should be. They are the only things in that picture apart from things made of stone / concrete that are still structurally together.
Even the grillcloth went unscathed!
3. It depends what style of playing you want to learn. If it's rhythm, grab these 5 chords to start with C A D G E & just strum. Practice strumming just 8ths & then throw in 16ths. Play about with patterns until you're comfortable & then practice moving from one chord to another (e.g. G to D & back to G). Once you've gotten comfortable playing these 5 chords, chuck in the barred chords. It's not hard. If it's lead, then practice scales. Treat it a bit like a bass.
4. Wish I lived a bit closer to London when things like this come up. Is it just me who thinks it means something other than bass guitars when they see LBGS? I thought I was getting 20% off a roger from Roger!

Radiovox Amp
Does Mag suggest a phono input?
I believe it may do, as these were used in a pair for left & right channels coming from a mixer (DJ type).
6.
If you read the op he says "Songs you would have on your set list if you hated the crowd" Sounds to me like songs that would empty the room. I love 21st Century, and Thick as a Brick etc, but play them at a pub/club gig and watch the tumbleweed.
You're right. I still wouldn't play Stereophonics.

Radiovox Amp

That Dymo tag's been on there for a good 30+ years. It's an antique! I'll get some inner pics this week.
8. My Bro has had 2 of these for years (he bought them off our uncle, who bought them new back in the 60s). Used to use them for PA all the time, but he doesn't use them anymore. A couple of weeks ago I got one off him to try out as a bass amp. It's had a recent service, but needs 2 valves (KT88) & I need to build/buy a cab to use with it. What I find most interesting, is that there is very little on the internet about Radiovox Amps, a couple of old radios, but not a sniff of info about Radiovox Sound Systems (other than one person saying that he thinks they were for PA). Here's a pic for proof... I'm planning on giving it a cosmetic refurb. Which is simply repainting the case & polishing up the handles with some steel wool. This thing weighs a ton. But if it sounds good, I have a drummer.
9. Nah, it's about what would be bad on the setlist, whatever the reason. Most Stereophonics songs is my worst thing to have on a set list. I like Stereophonics to listen to, but not to play. BTW, I like Agadoo. introduced the niece to it at Xmas & she loves it.
10.
I actually think 15w valve watts for guitar can cover an awful lot of ground.
Yup...
11. Finding actual musicians can be a realllly hard & slow process. Finding wazzicks with guitars & karaoke singers, easy.
12.
Every time someone posts something to a forum they know they are opening themselves up to criticism, if they weren't willing to accept it, they wouldn't post. It depends on how the criticism is offered i guess. you could say A - "you're drums sound like utter w***, i hate them, it's sh*t" when all you mean is B - "i think you could tone down the compression as it makes the drums sound off and hard to listen to" If you offered A on one of my recordings, id call you a rude name and probably not post again. if you offer me B however, im more inclined to go back and listen to the drums again, because quite often a second set of ears makes a massive difference. Again, harsh criticism is fair enough, but setting up a sub forum to effectively slate peoples efforts isn't needed. that depends on how the criticism is offered i guess.
You make a good point there. Though going from on BC in general, I don't think genuine members would look to be offensive. I suppose a better idea is if someone wants honest brutal (but not personal/nasty) criticism, then in the current share your music forum they should just ask for that sort of feedback.
13. Constructive criticism is a good thing. If people always said "Yeah, that sounds great", then the songwriter/producer could be left feeling that there's nowhere to improve & can't understand why "x" sounds crap. I need someone to turn & say "That mix is dire! the "x" is too loud & "y" doesn't go with anything else". Thankfully the Mrs does that for me. She lets me know when things sound good & if something's crap she'll say "What was that, did you drop the guitar on the keys?" or something of sarcasm like when I sand a line "Oh won't you help me" in a track, she sad "What, help you to sing!". I'm up for it.
14.
Snow Patrol?
I think he means a different sort of "funky".
15. Watts isn't so much about volume, but more about heffers. Tell a heffer you've got a 500w amp & there'll be very little interest. Tell her it's 1000w and....!
16. Got my song done this week & finished! I've been starting work at 3:45 every day this week, so I felt like the guy in the pic heading into the sunset & off to work. I tried to get the feeling of having lots of energy building up & getting a good start to the year. https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/to-a-new-sunset I've yet to listen to it on other systems, so I might need to do a little more mixing/mastering, but the song itself is complete.
17.
Adam F7s. They're excellent - I'm almost tempted to get some more instead of my hifi speaks, which had an rrp of £2600 more!
Oooh! I'd love a pair of those. I'm after a pair of monitors & struggling to get my budget past £100! I shall, but by how much is another story. Anyway, I'm off to work on this month's composition. I've got the basics already done.
18.
Thanks for the valuable advice all. I'll do some measuring. I appreciate the only way to downsize a little bit without a huge compromise in tone is to go 2x12 or 2 x 1x12. Key is to have a smaller footprint.
If it's only a smaller footprint & height isn't an issue, then 2 2x10s will give you similar volumes to your 4x10. I say similar as there's factors to consider such as what the drivers are & the cab design, so it could be louder or quieter depending on those. E.G. Markbass 2x10 STD is a bigger sounding cab than the 2x10 Traveller solely due to the fact that the STD is quite a large cab (stood vertically, it's probably only a few inches narrower than a 4x10). I'd try as many rigs as you can & see what suits your needs.
19. It really depends on the sort of volume you're looking to make. The Markbass 2x10 was exceptionally loud for a single 2x10 & it was more than ample at the venues I played at the time. I can't say the same for other 2x10s as I haven't compared them, but the MB was louder & cleaner than the Trace Elliot 4x10 I had before it & cleaner than the Marshall 2x15 that I had before that. If you're needing more volume, you can always add a 2nd 2x10 as a 4x10 column. If you do need the volume from a single cab, then I'd listen to the good chaps above & try some 2x12 cabs.
20. Either's fine with me, but I prefer musician.
21.
I didn't think anyone from Wick could possibly be described as a Sassenach, or is there a surprisingly large ex-pat colony of jolly old English people there?
He's originally from Dunstable, but moved up in his early teens to Wick & then recently moved down to Perth.
22. My band is a good mix of ages & races. I'm a 46 year old Scot of Norweigian descent, the singist is 30 & also a Scot. The guitarist is about as old as me & from South Africa & the Drummist is a 25 year old Sassenach from Wick. The important things to me is that the musicians are just that... Musicians. Maybe that makes me a bigot?
23. I've updated a link that'll play the video in my 1st post.
