Snow Patrol?
I think he means a different sort of "funky".

Watts isn't so much about volume, but more about heffers. Tell a heffer you've got a 500w amp & there'll be very little interest. Tell her it's 1000w and....!

Got my song done this week & finished! I've been starting work at 3:45 every day this week, so I felt like the guy in the pic heading into the sunset & off to work. I tried to get the feeling of having lots of energy building up & getting a good start to the year. https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/to-a-new-sunset I've yet to listen to it on other systems, so I might need to do a little more mixing/mastering, but the song itself is complete.
Adam F7s. They're excellent - I'm almost tempted to get some more instead of my hifi speaks, which had an rrp of £2600 more!
Oooh! I'd love a pair of those. I'm after a pair of monitors & struggling to get my budget past £100! I shall, but by how much is another story. Anyway, I'm off to work on this month's composition. I've got the basics already done.
Thanks for the valuable advice all. I'll do some measuring. I appreciate the only way to downsize a little bit without a huge compromise in tone is to go 2x12 or 2 x 1x12. Key is to have a smaller footprint.
If it's only a smaller footprint & height isn't an issue, then 2 2x10s will give you similar volumes to your 4x10. I say similar as there's factors to consider such as what the drivers are & the cab design, so it could be louder or quieter depending on those. E.G. Markbass 2x10 STD is a bigger sounding cab than the 2x10 Traveller solely due to the fact that the STD is quite a large cab (stood vertically, it's probably only a few inches narrower than a 4x10). I'd try as many rigs as you can & see what suits your needs.

It really depends on the sort of volume you're looking to make. The Markbass 2x10 was exceptionally loud for a single 2x10 & it was more than ample at the venues I played at the time. I can't say the same for other 2x10s as I haven't compared them, but the MB was louder & cleaner than the Trace Elliot 4x10 I had before it & cleaner than the Marshall 2x15 that I had before that. If you're needing more volume, you can always add a 2nd 2x10 as a 4x10 column. If you do need the volume from a single cab, then I'd listen to the good chaps above & try some 2x12 cabs.

I didn't see this back in October. Now signed. -
Either's fine with me, but I prefer musician.
I didn't think anyone from Wick could possibly be described as a Sassenach, or is there a surprisingly large ex-pat colony of jolly old English people there?
He's originally from Dunstable, but moved up in his early teens to Wick & then recently moved down to Perth.

My band is a good mix of ages & races. I'm a 46 year old Scot of Norweigian descent, the singist is 30 & also a Scot. The guitarist is about as old as me & from South Africa & the Drummist is a 25 year old Sassenach from Wick. The important things to me is that the musicians are just that... Musicians. Maybe that makes me a bigot?

I've updated a link that'll play the video in my 1st post.

Just went to show a friend that cover & it's been taken down. When I manage to find it, I'll repost it.
How on earth did you manage to break a bass string? I am in awe......
On rounds, it's usually one of 3 things... Lots of slap (the pulls on the D & G take their toll), heavy playing with a plectrum and/or build up of dirt. On flats, it's lots of slap. Dirt adds to the tone. The only others that I could think of that breaks bass strings is either a fault with the materials or the bassist being abusive (e.g. picking the bass up by the strings).

I must be one of the few who doesn't like Cocker's rendition of With a Little Help. There's no doubting that he's a good singist, but I find the slowed down whining version doesn't tick the boxes for me. Which is weird, because I do like his other stuff.

& here's me thinking those yanks couldn't do sarcasm. TBH though, I think Bieber is more RnR than most of today's rockers. Maybe not music wise, but he's never on the news for something sensible.

How this song seamlessly changes genres is fantabulous! link http://digg.com/video/work-rihanna-drake-emo-polka-jazz
I really wanted to like this, but I tried playing one in PMT bristol, and it really has the feel of a lump of rubber. I see people sliding their fingers over it and the expression they get but to me, it is like playing a deflated tyre, it just bunches up when I push it
I had the same issue the first time I tried one, but I went back for another go & spent a bit more time playing with it. Once you get used to the surface, it is really expressive.

Great cover of a great song. Listened to his cover of "I can't feel my face". It's non too shabby too! http://youtu.be/Yz5dy5LRu9M

I bought my SR1000 back in 1990 & it's been my main keeper. It was a metal player's bass at the time with folk like Matt Bisonette from DLR & once Yngwie Malmsteen bassist, Wally Voss playing them. Mine no longer looks like a metalhead's bass. Considering getting a fretless 5 string Ibby.
If you have permission, it's all good!
Excellent! There was a couple that I've done, but I really like my bass playing in this track. The mix could be better though, so I might play about with it if I get time.
I obviously don't make the rules but that should be ok in my book. What I love about the composition challenge is that it's about hearing some very different interpretations of the picture. I can't see why interpreting what is classed as a cover is much different to the philosophy behind that.
If I've got to sing, then it's either gonna be an instrumental or a cover of Sex Machine!

After recommendation on here last year, I got a pair of the Superlux 668B & can't fault them. Best £33 I've spent. Detachable cable & comes with 1m & 3m cables & has a great sound quality.

Does it count if I use the original vocals (with their permission of course), but everything else by me or is that too much like a remix rather than a cover? Here's my version... https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/flashbacks-gx & the original... http://youtu.be/vkcgUZ21NRc
